Negative experience: After going to so many different barbershops, you should get your haircut at "Papis Barber Shop" I'm going to talk about Status Barber Shop, which is who this review is really for today, and obviously here clearly because there were not one, but two instances of disrespect and abuse towards me. First, I took my son there and they charged me upfront before even cutting his hair. This included an upfront tip for something we didn't even know how it would turn out... obviously, the haircut was TERRIBLE... ah, but they had already secured their percentage of the tip beforehand, which, of course, HOW COULD YOU NOT GIVE HERE IN CANADA, HAHAHA. Anyway, not satisfied with that, yesterday my son called again to make an appointment, and today, for reasons, I obviously will not disclose here, my son called just to reschedule today's appointment. And you know what they told him? According to their "policy", I'll have to pay half the total price of the haircut as punishment for canceling my appointment today. Why? When they could've just rebooked another appointment. PLEASE BE CAREFUL WHERE YOU GET YOUR HAIRCUT. A better place that I go to frequently, and that I recommend to get your haircut, would be at Papis barbershop, where the environment feels way more welcoming than this place. Negative experience: Did not even get a chance to sit in the chair. They advertise drops in. They should aslo advertise non-acknowledgment. Sat there and 3 other guys who came in agter me went before me. Nobody acknowledge i was there or asked me if i was waiting for someone. Once a barber was done they just talked to their fellow barbers. I just left. I am hispanic and definitely feels like an all white environment. I am sure they are not racist and are good people. Just was not impressed

I trusted him with giving me my haircut for my wedding and he came through like always! English is his second language so take the time to explain what you want and he will deliver.

Negative experience: Nice people but terrible hair cut. The guy I booked gave me one of those low taper fade things when I asked specifically on the picture I showed him for a mid to low drop fade. On a short buzz, things like that really matter.

I was greeted by the owner, explained that we were new in town and taking a look around for a consistent barber. Even though we didn't makean appointment that day, the first impression was a great and has been ever since. Have tried some others around downtown, I always seem to come back here.

Negative experience: Worst experience ever. Barber started cutting into my side burns without any consultation. I came in for a beard trim!! He ended up cutting my moustache so far above my lip line that I went home and shaved my whole face. Hugely disappointing as I’d had my moustache for 7 years but he cut it so aggressively that I couldn’t leave it. I will never step foot in there again.

I chose this barbershop based on its excellent reviews and "Best of the City" reputation, and booked the "Platinum All Scissor Men's Cut," expecting a premium experience. The service description clearly promises: "Includes wash/condition, styling and product, razor outline and hot towel." Unfortunately, the reality was a rushed, basic cut. The promised hot towel was omitted entirely. The "styling" was nothing more than a quick blow-dry with no care and no product applied. The attention to detail and relaxing experience implied by the "Platinum" name were entirely absent. When I politely pointed this out, I was simply handed a $5 refund with no sincere apology. This response was deeply disappointing, as it suggests the premium "experience" I paid for is valued at a mere $5. It was unbelievable, of course, and it had a bad meaning. Perhaps this shop is adequate if you're just looking for a standard cut. However, if you are paying a premium for a service like the "Platinum" package, I cannot recommend it. The service provided does not match the description, and the dismissive way my complaint was handled shows a lack of concern for customer satisfaction. I left feeling ripped off and undervalued. Can you believe this service was for the “best of the city”? Honestly, I want a refund. I paid more than $65, including tip.

Negative experience: It was an upsetting experience we had yesterday evening with Troy. We booked a hair cut for my son with Keaton but got switched to Troy. Troy introduced himself and told us he will do the haircut but then he went outside the shop and deal with other people. I am so disappointed that he let us wait for 20 mins and seems he doesn’t care about us waiting. I would understand if he was late because of attending other customer, but we see him talking to the people just outside right by the door. So we decided to leave, I know he noticed us walking out but he did not say anything. Few minutes after we left, Troy called us and he said he was sorry for what happened and he was running late and he wants to make up and offered a free haircut for the next day. I was too upset, but did not take the offer. I am hesitant to share this experience, I see great reviews about the shop and him. I do not know why he gave us that kind of treatment, he let us wait while he was outside and dealing with other people. I just hope he told us the situation and we will understand. But we felt being ignored and that’s really upsetting. It’s ruined our evening plans and moods. My son really liked the service he got for his two last appointments though. I hope this will serve a lesson to communicate and treat everyone fairly.

Negative experience: I have been a regular for a few years now and gotta say the first few hair cuts were simply outstanding. Like I received way too many compliments every time. Still, I've had experiences here that were equally bad. Now why would I say that? Well if one pays $45+ each time, the job better be steller. I won't name the barbers directly but there are a few I strictly avoid. My usual barber used to do an awesome job and something changed over time. Like she understands the basic niche re. haircuts, but the fade has gotten quite poor...miss the old times.

Fantastic experience: Erol gives a great straight razor shave! I get shaves all over the world and have never had a barber use the steam machine that Erol uses. It was great at keeping my face hot and moist and Erol did a great job with the razor.

Fantastic experience: I took my son in for his first barber experience in Victoria because he's from another province. The barber was polite and knowledgeable as to what we were doing to my son's hair. I didn't know where to go but I've heard of the place from other males that said 'it was a place to go'. It will be our monthly go to shop.

Negative experience: First of all he cut my sideburns too short, by a lot. I clearly said I do not want much off, just a trim to clean things up. He completely ignored or simply didn’t understand my questions about my trim/beard. It was obvious he was not able to speak English, I am not taking a heavy accent, but rather a total lack of comprehension, which is why I believe he cut my sideburns too short; because he didn’t understand what I wanted. I asked him several times if he understood, but he said yes; it was my mistake trusting he understood me. After he ruined my sideburns I refused the moustache trim and stop the beard trim after he made my sideburns match. Additionally if you are LGBTQIA+, or otherwise queer, I would avoid this place as I was repeatedly mis-gendered. As an Enby AFAB I politely corrected him three times and he persisted in mis-gendering me at which point I probably had a bit more bite and distress in my tone, but continued to repeat “please don’t miss-gender me”. After I left I had to pull over and cry because of the both the butcher job on my face and being mis-gendered.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been going to Status for years now and it’s the best barbershop I’ve been to! Finding a barber that knows how to deal with curlier hair can sometimes be a struggle on the Island but I can confidently say that every cut, twist, braid etc. that I’ve had done here has come out perfectly. Also a special shoutout to Shayla for being the braiding specialist and being able to accommodate last minute appointments and or touch ups to both cuts and braids if something unexpected happens.

We brought our 1 year old son here for his first hair cut and we weren't sure what to expect but he was in good hands with Rayne <3 She is so gentle and patient with kids and is really understanding if a kiddo is having a hard time sitting still. She did such a good job with how challenging it was as our son really didn't want to stay still for very long but she got it done, and it looked perfect! We will absolutely be coming back. Fantastic experience: Great service from Zoe. She knew exactly what I wanted & has amazing styling/barber skills! (Especially with short hair on women) She asked the perfect questions to figure out exactly what I wanted. I highly recommend her and this place! Very satisfied customer.

Fantastic experience: I've been taking my toddler there for his haircuts for the past year or so (Done by Zoe) and she has always been very kind and patient with a wiggly boy in the chair. She listens to what we're looking for and has delivered a great cut each of the times we've been in. All the other staff are polite and greet us in a freindly manner. Top notch service! Fantastic experience: This is the number 1 Barber Shop in Canada bar none. It's been 9yrs since I've been back and Tbone and his team, continue to polish the pearl until it shines. I'm blown away because Status Barbershop and staff understand The Moments Of Mastery. I AM proud to know Tbone the barber his staff..Peace and Love always. Negative experience: Waited 45 mins past my appointment to get in with Troy the owner and at 5:10 another guy walked in and Troy took him and the apprentice offered to take me. My hair was pretty long and I told him I just wanted it cleaned up and to take as little as possible off since I was growing it out. I guess he doesn’t know how to cut longer hair so Troy and him switched clients. Turns out Troy doesn’t either or he just doesn’t listen. I asked for a little off the sides and back and again reiterated that I wanted as little taken off the length as possible to just clean it up. I’m left with a mid fade all the way around and a mop on top. If it was technically a sound haircut I might not write this review but despite it being not what I had wanted, around my ears are two different lengths and in the fade there’s still long hair chunks that were missed. Maybe I should have went to a salon. I wouldn’t recommend them unless you just want a run of the mill fade and even then uneven.
