Blind Barber

Negative experience: My friends and I (five of us) stopped by Blind Barber in Chicago as part of a birthday celebration. The bar was very crowded when we arrived, but we were fortunate to find two seats together at the corner of the bar. This was important because two people in our group have medical conditions that make it difficult to stand for long periods. We ordered drinks and had been seated with an open tab for about 30 minutes when an employee approached us and told us we needed to give up our seats because the area needed to be “reserved for the owners,” who were on their way in. Shortly after, a bouncer pushed through with the owners’ entourage — including a man in a tuxedo and several others — and we were expected to clear out so they could take our seats. I have never experienced being asked to give up seats at a bar, after already ordering drinks and sitting there for a while, simply so the owners could sit down instead. If seats are reserved for ownership or VIPs, that should be managed before customers are seated and ordering drinks, not after they’ve already settled in. Unfortunately, this left a pretty poor impression of how customers are treated here. ⭐ 1 star

Negative experience: Drinks were fine but expensive. Security was super unprofessional to the point I was uncomfortable being in there. Door persons were fine but in the speakeasy they were very aggressive over nothing. Music was awesome and a really cool place overall but price and the level of professionalism from staff will likely keep me from going back.

Positive experience: Came here to grab a drink after work and they had happy hour with delicious espresso martini and old fashioned and many other drinks. The vibes were great, especially after the playlist was switched to raye!

Negative experience: Worst establishment I’ve ever been to in my short 22 years of life. Staff was MORE THAN terrible, and I felt unsafe the entire time (it was clear other people at the bar felt the same). Not sure how this place is still in business by the way my friends and I were treated this weekend. Would NOT recommend. Reply to your very inappropriate response: When and where did I say I was exploring all the bars in the world? Idc about the other 99.6% of bars, I chose YOURS. And it was terrible, so I left my honest review. I’ve been to enough to know that this was the worst one III have ever experienced. PERSONAL EXPERIENCE. Getting defensive over one bad review is so weird and putting y'all deeper into things. A company trying to pull statistics on a customer..how unprofessional? If anything, me being young, and this being the worst bar I’ve ever been to, is telling. If the service isn’t terrible enough, let this response to a true concern of safety be your reason not to come here. ESPECIALLY if you’re a woman.

Negative experience: I would kindly encourage management to have a conversation with their staff on how to respectfully engage in conversations with their paying customers.

Fantastic experience: Had the absolute best time here last night. The DJ was incredible and brought back the essence of a true 2000s club vibe, and suddenly it felt like 2016 again in the best way possible. This spot is such a gem, with an amazing team from start to finish. The door staff were great, and Liv took exceptional care of us all night. If you’re looking to dance, enjoy a drink (or a few), and vibe to genuinely good music, this is the place.

Fantastic experience: They lined me up last Tuesday

Negative experience: It was once a better place; I used to frequent this bar regularly, but now you will encounter intimidation and extortion at the entrance. The staff outside are exceedingly rude and greedy, and even their regular patrons are not exempt from their appalling lack of hospitality. Nevertheless, the atmosphere inside can be enjoyable on certain days, but I have no intention of returning. The short black bouncer was quite a character.

Negative experience: I had been to this bar twice but last night because my jeans had a small amount of fringe I was told I could not enter.then the security guard goes to say I have rips in my heans..its winter who the hell wearing rips in jeans i could not belive they used my very fashionable jeans to micro aggression racism.turn3d me and my sister rt around at the door..blind barber I will never recommend and never attend again.my 40K on tiktok will know about this also.

Negative experience: Very rude staff. I went for the speakeasy part and the staff were less than kind.

Fantastic experience: Seen a review saying rude staff, place changed for the worse etc & was hesitant to visit. Last minute decided to come on to the bar & it was incredible! I’m very critical of anywhere I take my wife & this place didn’t disappoint me. Solo I will go anywhere but with her hell no lol.. good music here, good vibes, check it out yourself. 9.9/10

Negative experience: Updated review: the owner of this place sucks, looking at all the replies he is giving to reviews based in constructive feedback tell you everything you need to know! This review is for the speak easy only: This was my firsttime back to Blind Barber in about 4 years. I was showing my friend who is new to the city some fun, vibey spots. Boy has this places changed. The woman who let us back into the speak easy portion was kind, however everything went downhill from there. Please teach your bartenders manners and customer service. The bartender I had was wearing a septum nose piercing and dark sunglasses. He was so rude. Took him forever to take our drink order (it was not even packed yet), when I asked for a straw he laughed and goes "we have not had those in over five years" - a simple we do not have straws would have sufficed. On top of it the drink 'strawberry fields' was like a watered down sour patch kid with no liquor. We stayed for 10 minutes and immediately left. Never again.

Negative experience: Terrible experience , security (Xavier) pushed 2 - 5’2 females out, yelling in my face, kicking me out in the rain for the lack of their own security services.the manager (David), couldn’t give me a refund and didn’t want to resolve the solution while I was still there . Very unprofessional . Do not come here . The manager, David, the shortest one, was no help at all.

Negative experience: Employees are rude and inconsiderate during club hours

Negative experience: We came here on a Friday night, and at first the bouncer was going to let us in, but then another one stopped him. He said we couldn’t come in because one of my friends had ripped jeans. Right after that, we saw two couples go in wearing tshirts and basketball shorts?!? The first time I came, everyone was super nice, which is why I decided to give this place another try. This time was the complete opposite. It honestly felt like discrimination for no reason. I don’t recommend this place at all. I’m reading others people low rated reviews on this place, and their responses are so disrespectful and unprofessional. I think that says a lot about the people who runs this place.

Negative experience: The DJ on Friday Sep 19th was genuinely horrible. Could not mix or transition to save their life. Has to be someone’s brother or cousin because that was ridiculous. If you’re going to charge cover then you better have a half okay DJ.

Positive experience: Nice speakeasy for laughs and drinks. I love that you see diversity walking in. Djs usually play mixture of music for all to enjoy which is a bonus. The actual barbershop is also an eye candy! It looks clean and classic!

Positive experience: In case you didn’t know… this barber shop is a speakeasy! To get in, walk through the barbershop and straight through the secret door. Once inside it’s dark, vibey, and has great music and art. Thursday had a solid dj set and a good crowd - not packed, but felt full in a good way. You should definitely visit on the weekends too! It’s packed and poppin’ with full-on dancing. Drinks? Always a hit. This is a solid go-to for a fun, not-too-basic night out.

Negative experience: “not open for the public” security has very strong preferences for the crowd that they allow in. It’s sad & it’s unfortunate- this place was said to be a space for our community but i never felt more slighted in my life.

Negative experience: My actual haircut was fine, but I had to wait 25 minutes after my scheduled time for the cut to start. The person cutting my hair, Lisa, was passive aggressive and kinda rude

Fantastic experience: Came here just for the speakeasy during happy hour on a Thursday night. However, I would love to try a haircut with one of their barbers in a future visit. Anyways, the vibes of going from a barbershop to the bar was really cool. As I entered this nondescript door as a walk-in (forgot to make reservations), I was immediately greeted with the really cool mid century speakeasy vibe with tastefully decorated space and dim lighting. The music was at a good volume and just a small groups of people were scattered around. Not too crowded at that time but I was told by the bartenders that things pick up later in the evenings or weekends. However, I just wanted to get a few happy hour drinks and was surprised they had a happy hour special until 7pm. Most places go to 5:30-6pm so I was surprised by the timing. The cocktails looked tasty and the pricing was on par with bars in the area ($15-20) but happy hour was $10 for standard cocktails like old fashions, sours, etc. I went for the old fashion and was delighted but how good it was for the price. I chatted with the bartenders and they were friendly and attentive. Made sure my drinks were topped off and were fast with their service. There was a small food menu but it was typical bar fare from what I remember and I had a side of fries to eat. Overall the vibes were great and definitely come for happy hour again. I’m sure late nights and weekends can be a blast but I enjoyed a super chill place to wind down after work and will come back with more friends.

Positive experience: This was one of many stops this past Friday night. It was my second visit here. Food: N/A Drinks: I had a sidecar with D'usse. I don’t know if simple syrup or lemon juice wasn’t used but something was definitely missing because the drink was bland. That took me back to my first visit having Jack and Ginger Ale. That was bland. I’m starting to think the alcohol may be all well liquor. It’s my personal opinion of course but 2 visits with bland drinks? I did have a shot of something dark and that was cool. The shot was actually better than the drink. Service: The servers were cool and attentive. The drinks/shots all came out FAST! Atmosphere: Chill, music, drinks flowing….it gets loud as time goes by-typical lounge to club energy. Final Thoughts: I wouldn’t stand in line so I’d return early for a shot and some music/pregame! There was also a nice employee named Ashley who sat my friend and I at a table. Everyone these days seems bothered and/rude but Ashley was so nice! This review also made me realize that I didn’t review my first visit from March. I’m not sure if he’s still there but Tee (one of the bouncer’s) was nice as well!

Negative experience: Been twice. Definitely not worth it. Neither haircuts came with a neck shave. For $60 (plus tip..) that is insane. If you have money to burn, like sitting in trendy barbershops, and mid haircuts then I would recommend.

Negative experience: I so wanted to like this place because it’s got such a cool vibe. But $70 (tip included) for a mediocre haircut I needed to touch up at home is kinda insane. Unfortunately won’t be back for these prices and quality of service.

Fantastic experience: Awesome vibes, went here on a Saturday with friends and really cool speakeasy vibe. Security team member T was super chill and Ashley Hostess helped us out to the table. Overall Great experience and Miguel helped choose best drink which White Ferrari - will definitely run it back at the hidden spot.

Negative experience: I would suggest this bar up until this Saturday, 3/8/25. I was there with some friends of mines for a St. Patrick’s event, and towards the end during last call for drinks as my friend is finishing his drink, one of this security guys takes my friends drink out of his hand and says “gotta go”. He’s finishing his drink by the way, not causing any type of attention and we’ve spent a lot of money at this event as well. We ask the security guard, why aren’t you doing this to those other guys over there, who happen to be white, and he responds, “they spent money”. Those Hispanic security guards obviously are racist and this represents this establishment terribly. I’ll never come here again after being treated this way.

Positive experience: I was recently brought here by a friend for the first time and loved the back bar experience. The overall ambiance of the space is cozy and welcoming, early, and evolves into a fun spot to visit when you're out and about with friends. We quickly made friends with the bartender, Christian, and he made a solid drink recommendation based on what I told him I usually drink. He was super friendly and helpful. I went back with some other friends again, and Christian was welcoming and remembered the drink he recommended last time and whipped one up for me. He really made the experience elevated each time I've visited, and made me want to bring more friends back as we continue to explore the West Loop area!

Negative experience: Bouncers were so rude, they didn’t let my friends who were all black women in while it was RAINING but they let in two light skinned men right after that.

Negative experience: 2 seltzers = $30. My friend and I had gone to use the bathroom and we got yelled at to open the stall door bc we were both in one, i was not going to open the door when my friend’s pants were down when trying to pee. i had spilled ketchup on my whit shirt and went to go to the bathroom to rinse it and was refused. i told security i didn’t need to use the bathroom and just needed the sink and was turned away. asked the bartender for a damp napkin and was given a side eye. after asking 3 more times i finally received a napkin. music was good but staff was not nice

Fantastic experience: I just left this bar for my boyfriends birthday and the bartender FRED was the BEST bartender I’ve ever had he took care of us from 8pm-12pm and was so patience with all of us go here if you want a good time and make sure you get Fred as a bartender

Fantastic experience: After much research and looking for someone who was good at cutting long men's hair (for my son), I found Troy. He's the loveliest person and listens exactly to what his client needs, I can't recommend him enough. I will say that I'm giving 5 stars SOLELY because of Troy. There are other gentlemen that work there that are insanely rude, and I would stay away from a bigger gentleman with a beard who was the rudest person there.

I almost didn't go here because there's no pictures of haircuts on their Instagram and most of the reviews are for the bar. Probably should at the very least start putting pictures of the haircuts on insta so the barbers/stylists get more business.

Fantastic experience: My friends and I came here specifically for the speakeasy. We didn't realize that it was inside the barbershop at first, but that's the point of a speakeasy! Really cool vibe where we can kick back and relax. The bartenders take their mixology fairly seriously, so there's a really neat list of original cocktails. Great bourbon selection. Our server was extremely knowledgeable to the point that she even gave us some recommendations for other places to check out for other days during our 3-day trip. Ended up being very helpful.

Negative experience: Blind barber used to be one of my favorite places in Chicago, but I will never be visiting again.. The person at the door was extremely rude. My friends and I were waiting outside patiently and out of nowhere he started yelling at us. Right after shouting at my group of friends (all of us being people of color), he let 3 white girls in without any questions/issues. Seems like this has been a persistent issue here if you are trying to get in after midnight and the owners don't seem to give a damn about it. Please go spend your money and time elsewhere. I assure you Chicago has a lot of better places to be at than this establishment.

Fantastic experience: For an after dinner drink or to go and hang out this place is great. My wife made a reservation which was great but there were open tables. I hadn’t been here before so it was a cool experience walking into the barbershop then heading through the door to the bar. I had tequila with a very clear piece of ice. The server brought over three bottles of tequila for us to taste because I mentioned I like tequila. She went out of her way to make the experience excellent.

Negative experience: The bouncer with the ugly brown vest asked me to leave when the girls next to me were drunker than me. It was discriminatory and they do not like south asian people for some reason.

Negative experience: Me and a group of friends were at the Fridays in Fulton market festival and had a beers from the festival. The bouncer saw us drinking them and throwing them away in the trash can next to the door. Then tells us we can’t come in because we had drinks. The festival was literally steps from the front door and they saw we had the cans that were sold. An organization in Fulton market banning guests for supporting the festival is ridiculous to me

Positive experience: The vibes are so fun and most of the time the DJ’s play the best music (90’s, 2000’s, and current hip hop). The reason I’m not giving them 5 stars is because some bouncer that dresses like a clown was saying disparaging and rude things to women about their looks at the end of the night. The security staff just stood there and laughed too. Be better, Blind Barber, or the fine women will go elsewhere.

Negative experience: Here'My friend and I decided to check this place out because it seemed like the hotspot everyone was talking about. We went on a Saturday night, so naturally, it was packed, and a DJ was playing popular EDM tracks like *Heads Will Roll*. While I enjoy speakeasies, I think visiting before the nighttime rush might have offered a better experience. The reason for my three-star rating boils down to the drink pricing, which left me feeling a bit shortchanged. I understand that speakeasies often come with higher price tags, but the pricing structure here felt unclear. For example, the tip is apparently already included, yet the payment machine still prompts for an additional tip—this was confusing and seemed unnecessary. We ordered an Espresso Martini with tequila, which was delicious. Here’s the breakdown of our drink pricing: - 2 Don Julio Reposado: $36.00 - Espresso Martini: $6.00 Subtotal: $42.00 Tax: $4.94 Tip: $9.39 While the drinks were great, the unclear and steep pricing definitely dampened the experience for me.

Negative experience: Not even a review for the shop but the security during the bar hours. Very unprofessional male bouncer who didn’t check IDs and was rude. Sorry to say but Black establishments need to help everyone down to security have interpersonal relationship skills and customer service. Whoever was working the night of July 2 was not someone who upheld the values and customer service of this shop.

Positive experience: UPDATE FOLLOWING THE BUSINESSES REPLY: Really? I am a customer and was NOT notified. If customers are in fact notified as you claim, please share the signage and/or communications shared that support your claim. As you can tell, this order was placed at the bar. Nice spot, but I was incredibly annoyed to find after paying that they auto-apply tip and a junk fee "service charge" to the bill and do not notify the customer of this.

Fantastic experience: My boyfriend and I were walking by this place on a summer Friday night when we noticed a long line, impressively managed by the security bouncers. Curious, I approached one of them to ask about it. To my surprise, it turned out to be an incredible speakeasy. The bouncer was very kind and invited us to check it out, allowing us entry. I’m not sure about the other comments regarding racism because both of us are brown. Sometimes, kindness goes a long way. I'm so grateful we had the chance to experience this speakeasy. The DJ played fantastic Latin American music like reggaeton and merengue, making our visit unforgettable. We will definitely be returning many times.

Positive experience: If your looking for a guaranteed full time definitely come here on the weekend or any day that are having events. The DJ's are always great, the crowd is always dancing and having a good time. There is also something you need to know before purchasing any beverages, they don't tell you that drinks already have gratuity included so don't tip extra. Also since the drinks already have gratuity included the prices are spiked up. Ex: one high noon is $12. So come for a drink but not to get drunk!

Negative experience: The bouncer is discriminating based on race!!!!! My friends and I heard about blind barber at night and we were excited to visit. At first the bouncer said, come back in 30 minutes when it’s less packed. So that’s what I did. We went to another bar, and after 30 minutes I came back, making sure my friends can come with, and he said OKAY. BRING YOUR FRIENDS. I brought them over, and then he said, “oh you can’t come in.” I was appalled and super frustrated. Right in front of my eyes, I saw my friend and his sister go in with absolutely no problems. So then my friend asks, “so it’s a race issue?” to which the bouncer goes, yes it’s a race issue. THAT IS UNBELIEVABLE. I’m so disappointed in this place and I will never recommend any of my friends to even attempting to come here again.

Fantastic experience: Liv was absolutely the highlight of my life! We live in Chicago and we will definitely be making the blind barber our number one spot!! Liv made our experience a never forget! She made sure we had the most exquisite night and best jokes of all time!!! We chose to come here for my birthday weekend and she truly made our experience a never forget! Give this girl a raise!!!

Positive experience: Never got a haircut but I definitely got a drink! They are well made, and delicious. I wish the espresso martini came in a martini glass, the stem helps bc holding the drink makes it warm a lot quicker. Really nice decor and yes the DJ does make it hard for a conversation but also no one really dances.

Fantastic experience: I've gotten my hair cut by Kelcey and Lisa who have been great! Chill atmosphere and friendly service. I would recommend Blind Barber to anyone that's looking for a fresh cut in the West Loop.

Positive experience: While I love the speakeasy entry and vibe, I do think this bar is a little bit overhyped! The drinks are very pricey and it has an awkward inbetween atmosphere. There’s a DJ playing loud music but no one is dancing and it’s too loud to hold a good conversation so I feel like the vibes are a bit weird. I could see wanting to come here once for the experience but don’t think I’d come back honestly!

Positive experience: This barber shop front is an actual barber shop, where you can get a real hair cut. But behind it is a speakeasy, where you can get a drink and enjoy your alcoholic beverages with friends. We will definitely come back here again next time we visit Chicago. We did come back, but was a little bit disappointed about the food and drink. Good thing that is not too pricey. But it's Still an interesting concept.

Negative experience: The place was giving off more of a club ambience than that of a typical speakeasy. Music was so loud I could barely hold a conversation. And despite the loud music, there was no room to dance, move around even. What absolutely ruined this place for me though was one of the bartenders. He IDed me despite having been IDed outside by the bouncer, passed my ID around to his coworkers, and kept laughing at me in my face. Still no idea what was so funny but def didn't love being ridiculed while I was just trying to catch a good vibe. Long hair bartender guy with tattoos and wearing too small of a band muscle tee, I hope you step on a lego. Drinks were decent.

Fantastic experience: BB is always one of my first stops whenever I’m back visiting just to say “hey.”Excellent team of barbers who not only provide great service and cuts, but also are warm and welcoming even when there’s been a few years between visits. New-ish line of in-house products smell great and work well. The staff in back are also solid and manage to be attentive to an empty glass, even when the place is packed.

Fantastic experience: by far the best night life experiences i’ve had in chicago have been at Blind Barber. one of the few establishments that can cater to a variety of audiences on any given night of the week. everyone from the security to the bartenders and servers work diligently to ensure an elevated experience for everyone. whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply looking for a memorable night out, Blind Barber exceeds all expectations. i highly recommend this establishment to anyone seeking a classy and sophisticated nightlife experience.

Fantastic experience: Nothing but a superb atmosphere upon every visit. From the barbershop to the speakeasy, this is Chicago in a nutshell. When you enter, you feel the warmth and it feels like entering a longtime friends house that you haven’t seen in ages. Oh and order the espresso martini as it’s made in house and one of the best in the city.
