Fantastic experience: I was just getting off work heading home walking down country club highway 87 on University drive and I noticed a barber shop open so I stopped by and asked if he was available still and he said yeah that he was still available it was past 12:00 he told me that they're open from 12:00 noon to 12:00 midnight first come first serve he is a very welcoming person treated me right respect greeted me when I came in the door told me God bless you when I left did an amazing haircut Matthew the barber I walked in about 12: 15 and he didn't say that he could not do my haircut even though it was after 12:00 like most barber shops they try to get out of work as soon as the time comes he stayed late took his time did exactly how I wanted my haircut and I appreciate it thank you Matthew for paying attention to detail and staying open past closing time!!!

Negative experience: This is the type of barbershop you gotta call to make sure someone is there in the shop but even then I wouldn’t trust it , I called and asked if someone would be specifically in the shop before I took a drive to them and they said yes even with me asking twice , came to the shop and no one was here! Twice this had happened to me on different days. Very bad business.

Negative experience: I asked for a taper and they damn near shaved my sides bald, there’s no fade and he pushed my hairline bacc. If you’re blacc i don’t recommend you go here

Fantastic experience: I absolutely loved this place! My son had gotten a mushroom bowl cut at a different salon, and it was just not working. The next day, I took him to Matthew's, and they did an incredible job fixing his hair. We barely had to wait, and the barbers were all so friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere was relaxed, and the conversation flowed easily – a really great experience all around. I’m so happy with how his hair turned out, and we’ll definitely be coming back!

Fantastic experience: My youngest son who’s 11years old wanted his hair cut for his first day of school so running around all day put us behind with trying to get him a haircut when I googled barbershop open now Matthew’s popped up said open until midnight so we came here. I was very Leary about who cuts his hair because he’s half black and his hair is BEAUTIFULLY spiraling curls all over and long so was just scared in general to get it cut way too short or not what he wanted done. But anyways we both relaxed and gave it a shot and let me tell you how amazing the guy did and I apologize I can’t even remember his name Luis? I’m so bad with names but his station was the chair on left! Not only did he cut his hair nice and how my son wanted it he also did him an eyebrow slit and the owner was VERY nice and made you feel welcomed and carried conversation the whole time. My son wants to go back again this week for another nice trim and edge up and the price was very very REASONABLE! I thank you Matthew’s barbershop for making us feel at home and doing a wonderful job on my sons hair that he wants to stick wit y’all from now on for his trims and edge ups! He’s trying to get his older brother to come get his haircut from y’all as well so we will see lol! Fantastic experience: Lui hooked it up this barbershop is open until midnight. I was able to get by after work and dinner with the family and get the best cut ever stop on and you will not be let down was nervous at first cause the shop is under construction, but the cut is amazing.

Fantastic experience: Amazing barber experience. I walked in and needed a cut desperately. Matthew had a client in his chair already so I was ready to walk out and then he told me to stay and let Luis give me a cut. I will be completely honest I was worried due to a language barrier - everyone in the shop knew it too. But man it was hands down the best cut I’ve had in Arizona. He only asked one time what I wanted I told him a taper fade (I have long hair just looking for the undercut) and he did exactly that. Lined up my goatee and an eye brow slash. These guys are awesome great vibes and great haircut. Support LOCAL!

Negative experience: Do not go here unless you want to really wait. I took my boy here and we were there, get ready folks, from 3:30-9pm waiting for a haircut. The only barber there tells you first come first serve so you’re obligated to sit there until the barber decides to quit bulshitting and gets to work. He did a decent enough job on the cut however I will NEVER go back here. Any owner that thinks it’s ok to make customers wait that long isn’t a place in my opinion that values its customers time. I’m so grateful I didn’t take my 6 year old here like I was planning. I will NEVER go back there. EVER!

The barber, I believe his name is Ricardo, did my hair amazing. Never left a barber shop feeling as confident in my cut as I do this one. Definitely making this my new spot.

Negative experience: Got there at 7pm. Waited there for 2 hours and 45 minutes and still got no haircut . Matthew went too the bathroom for 50+ minutes while I was sitting there waiting. I'm absolutely sick of this service. This place used too be a good place to get cuts, now the standard has dropped substantially. I've been coming here for 4-5 years and I've never experienced this kind of service .. 2 other people walked out before me and they waited 40 minutes, they didn't even get to see the barber because he was out in the bathroom for the entire time. Only 1 barber, expect to be waiting for multiple hours. Ontop of that, expect to pay $30+ for a haircut after waiting that long. And too think for years I would tip $12 each visit , every 2-3 weeks for 4-5 years . Not only did he forget my name but he also just didn't act right . This is not the same shop it used too be. I called him and he didn't even answer his phone the 2nd time.

In the spirit of true old school Barbershop conversation, he waxed poetic on subjects like the City of Mesa's development, love of old school hip hop and more. Matt's story from youth, to barber, to present day barbershop owner is also clutch. If you come, you'll need to know perhaps the most important old school tradition of this barbershop, cash. In these days of rising interest rates and inflated card fees, Matthew's is cash only. Hit the ATM up the street before you come by.

Negative experience: I was looking for a new barber since moving to Mesa. Decided to give this place a try as it a was one of the only ones open when I was free. It is small and has an old time feel. The barber , Matthew I think, was pretty cool. I always get a medium skin fade comb over with a little off the top. When discussing this with the barber, I did not get the impression that he was comfortable with this type of cut. When the haircut was finished it looked good unstyled. After getting home, showering and styling my hair, I noticed that the line for my comb over was totally messed up. There was a whole section of hair along the line that shouldn't have been cut, but was cut very short. It is not an easy fix unless I move the entire line or shave my head. I've had many barbers over the last ten years and none of them have messed up the line. Maybe the barber is good with older styles of haircuts but I will not be returning. I will give two stars for the availability and price.
