Negative experience: i got absolutely messed up. had to get it fixed a couple days later by a different barber, who asked me how i let myself get done like that. uneven fringe, uneven sides, no fade, cut the fringe like 3cm higher than asked.

Positive experience: I walked in off the street in September and Kotahi gave me a very good haircut, razor shave and hot towel. In January, I called in and I was unable to be served. No problem with that, but the two ladies present just told me to book on line. No attempt was made to make the booking there, or to provide any assistance, no card with website details was given. Not very personal service. I made a booking online and had to pay in advance. The service I had previously received wasn’t listed. At the time of the haircut, I did ask about a razor shave and was told that she didn’t do it, despite having 10 years or so of experience. Sad, that ‘barbers’ can’t / don’t do shaves. “Barbe” is French for beard. The haircut I got was fine. As an aside, my father, aged 87 booked last year, at Kamo. He arrived 20 mins late and was told that he’d missed his slot. At the time, he was in the early stages of dementia. Having booked/ paid online, he lost his booking and his payment. Pretty ruthless treatment of the elderly.

Negative experience: What terrible service I had today. I had a booked time for a haircut at 1.45, at the time the hairdresser was tending to someone else, 10 minutes rolls by and still haven't heard that the last guy was finished, so I ask the hairdresser if they had finished yet and they tell me "almost done, almost done". I waited back outside another 10 minutes, and FINALLY, it was my turn. 20 minutes after the time slot, I had booked, not to mention I had appointments straight after and a parking meter that was ticking by. I don't fully blame the hairdresser but absolutely shocking time management and time slots.

Negative experience: Do not grt a haircut here I went here today and I asked for a low taper and 1 inch of the top they took 4-5 inch even tho I said I would like less of the top and the Barber said no it's ok just trust me so I did and now I look like a egg

Fantastic experience: Go and have a cut with Vin! I was blown away by the professionalism and know-how of Vin - evident in the way he interacted with customers and other staff. All in all, the best barbershop experience of my life. I appreciated the quality of our conversation and his check-ins about my hair throughout the cut. Would definitely come back if I wasn’t leaving Whangarei soon! Bright future ahead for Vin I’m sure.

I am extremely jealous of the people in his new area that get to have him as their barber now. He looks after every need and makes sure everything is perfect with every cut. If you’ve got a spare hour and need a haircut i would hesitate to give this skillful barber a go

Positive experience: My son found his usual experience a bit quick and just lacked some TLC from the business being so busy. The staff are great, I love that I can book it for him online, and he attends like any other scheduled appt. The main reason I am giving a thumbs down is because of the price ... OMG...$40 for a student, a 13 year old boy, that is half my shopping bill and felt for the service. This was not worth it. He didn't even get a hot towel wipe down, and due to being so small, their hygienic practices do need some training if you want a secured 40 bucks paid in advance. From his mama's perspective, it's always not short enought which brings us back there in a month. Working that out is 80 bucks a month. We are business owners ourselves and know how hard it is, but $40 covers an entire meal, and let's alot of whanau not endure this experience due to affordability. And what happens when the internet is down?? What is their alternative. I wonder if they ever thought of cultural practices around cutting hair being a sacred process

Negative experience: needed a haircut today, heard good things about this place - went inside and said you need an appointment despite saying 'no bookings necessary', the guy said 'no availability, you need to book', asked when i could be seen he, said in 2-3 hours if you book right now. didn't return, i've just saw the prices online and is $48 for skin fade, can't believe it - wouldn't even pay that in auckland for a premium barber shop. extortionate.

Negative experience: Waited 48 minutes inside this shop for my son to get his haircut BEFORE we were told we needed to book online to get an appointment. (Signage in the shop stated bookings were not essential). I also explained I wasn't sure which service to book online (mainly due to cost...it was $35 for intermediate/high school or $27 for an undercut' so was waiting to ask for advice. The response was 'sorry we are fully booked and you needed to book online, we are booked out now' (this was at 2:08, we had been waiting since 1:20)...I explained we travelled from up north but was still turned away. Disappointed!!

Negative experience: This place has definitely changed. The information here says no appointment needed. You get there 8am to get a haircut so you are 1st in and they say you have to book your appointment. They weren't even busy and simply refused to give me a haircut. I told them that I had called and messaged them several times but no reply, but they didn't care. Last time I went I was impressed, but this time their service was unprofessional and their service was rude and not caring. Their prices are twice as dear as other barbers and the service not even quarter as good. I informed them I would not be back and I would leave a review about them so as to warn others that this company is definitely not worth the money they charge. The staff are very rude and don't want to help. If there was a zero star rating I would have given them that. I suggest give this place a huge miss. You will be disappointed and feel ripped off.

Negative experience: Son needed a back to school haircut so pre-booked and pre-paid so we didn't miss out. Turned up at 2.30 only to be told the person I booked in with couldn't get in to work. If I was sent a cancellation text I would have had time to go elsewhere. Didn't seem to care.

Negative experience: Sign states no appointments needed. Turn up and refused a cut for another 2 hours as required an appointment even though there was nobody in store and were just cleaning their tools. Previously went to kamo store and hair be was butchered so thought we’d give the town store a go to no success. Will definitely not be coming back

Negative experience: Used to be good, but now a total disappointment (new owner maybe?). Raised their prices by 20% after the Covid 19 lock down. Helps customers at the back of the line instead of longstanding customers. Poor customer service and a dissapointment.
