Fantastic experience: I visited The Stylish Man Newmarket today, and I was welcome by Bodie. He is courteous, friendly and energetic. He did the hair cut for me. The hair cut style fits what I described and wanted to have. He did it in style. I like it and he is one of the best barber in town.

Negative experience: Terrible experience!! The manager was rushing the worker that was cutting me which was very unprofessional. The worker and manager started arguing after cutting me. My haircut was rushed and didn’t turn out the way I wanted it. I showed a photo of how I wanted it and wasn’t really happy with the outcome. All though the man cutting my hair was very friendly but will not risk going a second time. Please beware that this place will rush your haircut and may not go the way you want it to. My beard was not even lined up properly. He shaped the bottom with a trimmer and charged me $45 for it. Total cost me $120 which was not worth it!!!!

Negative experience: I asked for 1 cm off the top of my mid to high fade, and he took 3cm off my length. I look like a school kid on my first day of school. I rang back and they said I didn't tell them length when I specifically said 1cm! I look horrific, I asked for my money back and they refused! DO NOT GO TO THIS BARBER EVER!! WORST BARBER IN NEWMARKET!!!!

Negative experience: Crazy expensive haircut. $55 for an 8 yr old child!!! And a whopping $120 for a buzz cut and a beard trim. The workers were friendly enough and the haircut was ok but I nearly fell down when they charged it up and the end. For those prices that needs to be an experience to remember. Music blasting out of a smart phone sitting on the counter was a classy touch.

Negative experience: Staff are friendly and experienced. I am happy with the end result. However, I can only give 3 stars due to two reasons: a. The haircut felt rushed, and I couldn’t relax, constantly worried he might accidentally cut me. b. I was in fact accidentally cut with the electric shaver, leaving a noticeable red, stinging mark on my neck. For a $65 haircut, I expected much better. Though, I will be coming back and may adjust review if my second experience is better. Edit: I had originally left 3 stars but his reply rubs me off as a person being in denial with a lack of customer service and it feels like gaslighting. His reply feels defensive, he doesn’t know how to take constructive criticism, for that reason I won’t be coming back and I’ve updated to 1 star. The owner needs to learn customer service instead of being defensive, doesn’t understand the concept of “the customer is always right” which he could benefit from learning. Smile, nod and take the feedback you will do much better, good luck.

Negative experience: This was the worst haircut I have had in my life. The service was terrible, I told them specifically that I had a perm and to try his best to keep it. But he disobeyed instructions and straight up just messed everything up, and after he realised he messed it up, he just loaded my hair up with texture powder. I came here because of the reviews I’ve never been so wrong in my life. Never go to this barbershop, worst one in Auckland

Positive experience: Asked for a low skin fade haircut and the cut was noticeably unblended on one side. I pointed it out and the barber fixed it, but then he lectured me saying that I asked for the incorrect haircut and made it seem like it was my fault.

Fantastic experience: I have visited them a couple of times and they have been very professional. I specifically have been getting my haircuts and beard from Gleig. Gleig is skilled at his job and is a fantastic person. Always warm and cordial and giving best suggestions.

Fantastic experience: My 12 y.o son has been getting his burst fade haircut from Gleig at The Stylish Man Newmarket. The quality is worth the price and the drive as we are not local. Gleig talks to my son during the haircut, which my boy enjoys, and he also checks if the progress of the haircut is the way my son wants it. Gleig is friendly and easy going and I recommend him if you are looking for a great barber.

Negative experience: I used to come every month with my 9 years old son to make the basic hair cut , my son always instructs to not cut the curly hair which they do ( saying that I mean they don’t do full hair cuts , it’s only take them 10-15 min to finish behind the ears and the back side ) what I realised recently that they keep increasing the prices each months for regular customers like us . They started at $35 , following month $45 , next month jumbled to 65 and then last month jumbled to $85 even the adult hair cuts will not be that much . Keep in mind the hair was not so thick or messy at all since we cut it every months and my son always ask them to not cut the top part of his curly hair . I am not coming back again , as we feel roped off by keep increasing the prices . Also I must mention that they only tell me the price after the hair cuts they never tell me before if they told me I would never agree to have it done especially the last one of the $85 . Honestly you will be losing all your customers if you are acting greedy like that . Moreover, you have to make an appointment even if the place is empty and no customers is waiting .

Negative experience: Told the barber that I wanted my hair left hanging over my ears and even showed him to what level. The first thing he did was to cut one side above my ear. Then tried to cut it even shorter later despite me telling him again I don't want it cut above my ears. Made no effort to balance the hair with how short he had cut that side, or balance the other side which was left longer. Now my hair looks like someone has cut a chunk out above one ear, and is lopsided. Then I was charged me $70 instead of the advertised $65. Not at all sure why he thought he should charge extra for mucking my hair up, which he even admitted. I didn't say anything as I just wanted to get out of there. Will now have to pay someone else to try and make it look right.

Negative experience: Don't come here. The price is arbitrary. Children's haircut was 50 dollars at first, then immediately changed to 70dollars. We cut every month in other shop. This was the worst experience.

Negative experience: Went in to get a haircut and the “owner” asked if I had an appointment and I said no. He was sitting having his tea and had no bookings. He said he was the “owner” repeatedly and only took appointments. There was no one in there. Dead as a doornail. He tried to make out that this place was by appointment only but no sign on the door stating so. Just thought to myself why is this guy turning down money, I’m here he is free let’s just get the haircut. Had to walk away in the end. Sorry to the owner but you lost a customer that sticks to a barber one he finds one. Best of luck to you In response to you response - I walked out because I know you were free and you still made a fuss and meandered on how you're the owner. I just wanted a haircut. It's pretty pathetic that you're in a classy mall and don't understand basic customer service and if you were that special you'd be booked out mate...jeez, where were your customers!! I've seen babers in less classy place with queues out the road. So you're saying that you'd turn down customers even if they don't have a booking. Take the criticism on the chin. It is what it is - you ain't that good. Good luck keeping the shop going with that wholesome attitude.

Negative experience: Called to book a haircut with these guys, they told me they had the last slot of the day available in 20 minutes. Travelled in from the CBD only to be told when I arrived they had a double booking and to book another day. No attempt to call or rectify the mistake, really poor customer service. Won’t be using their services again until they learn how to time manage.

Negative experience: One of the worst hair cuts I've ever had. I usually pay half the price that I paid yesterday, so going into this I had high expectations. Once I got home I realised my side burns were different heights and one was actually on an angle. Problem is you cant even fix them because they are cut too high. My partner has also just mentioned to me that the cut across the back of my neck is also crooked. Overall not impressed especially considering their prices are double. $65 for a cut that is not straight or even is shocking.

Negative experience: Booked in with Aladen for 12:00pm. Place was empty, though nicely dressed. He told me to take a seat. Nowhere to hang my jacket or bag so I put them next to my chair. Aladen seemed very absorbed in his phone at the counter and took a few minutes to come over and talk to me. He took my bag and jacket and plonked it in the empty barber chair beside me. He took a quick look at my reference photos. Before starting, Aladen stood in front of the chair, with his back to me, on his phone for at least a full two minutes. Nuts. No chat once he got going. Cut consisted of a lazy buzz with clippers and some random snipping at my cranium with thinning scissors. Took about ten minutes. Thank God I was only looking for a quick trim and paid minimum. I was out by 12:10. Stay away - zero customer service and ghostly atmosphere. Don't be drawn in by the cool vibe and retro movie posters - the place feels like a mortuary. EDIT: Since posting my review, I've been texted three times by the owner claiming I've "defamed" him and he also tried to call me. Insane behaviour, although I don't know what I expected considering the replies he leaves to reviews on here.

Negative experience: Passing by and in need of a beard trim I stopped in for a very basic clipper trim and line up. $50 is well above what anyone else charges and there is no value in that, lines weren’t clean and very uneven , there were chunks of hair missed. Also managed to cut my cheek using foil clippers, went to another barbers to fix the cut and line up the cut properly. Disappointing and do not recommend.

Positive experience: Advertised price for men's haircut is not what was charged, because apparently that price is only for a simple old man's cut. Considering I was in and out in 20 minutes my cut can't have been overly complex, so the $60 cost seems overly high.

Fantastic experience: I have 2 teenagers. We found this barber about 18months ago & it’s the only place they’ll go for a haircut now. The quality of the cut is really good. They listen & they’re fast. They are either with Bodie or Aladden. I would suggest making a booking online because they do fill up. They work hard & have nice hair products for sale as well. You can see it in many of the five star reviews that have consistent misspellings. For anyone interested search for "The Stylish Man Signs With Reviewboost NZ" and you'll find it.*** Not only did my boyfriend come out of The Stylish Man Newmarket looking like a 90s boy band reject, but the experience itself was like watching a horror movie unfold. The barber seemed to have no interest in what he was doing, and my boyfriend left with a lopsided mess on his head. To add insult to injury, the price was completely outrageous for such a disastrous result. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy, unless they want to rock the "I let a blindfolded toddler cut my hair" look.

Negative experience: First and last time, Won’t be back here. Paid $100 for a butchered Mens skin fade and beard trim. They don’t know how to work with poly hair, Cut was very uneven, patchy and not blended well. Don’t recommend new market branch. Replying to your comment- He was not happy, You should be taking accountability for what you/your stylist had created. Maybe doing some training/up skilling with the stylist would be ideal. I am not complaining about price it was expected we already knew how much it’ll be, price simply doesn’t match the quality.

Negative experience: My son went to this Establishment today because a friend recommended it - BIG mistake! He has come home with one of the shabbiest cuts I have ever seen and the barber has paid no attention to what he requested!

Negative experience: Went in and asked for wait time for a shave. Was told there was only one guy who was able to do blade work. Was informed to come back at 1:40pm. The guy asked for my name. Didn’t do anything with it. I came back at 1:40 the same guy told me that the only barber in there who can do blade work had an eye problem. Then at 1:40 the blade work barber had an other customer. I don’t mind waiting, I don’t appreciate being lied to. What an absolute shame.

Positive experience: I had a $55 style cut, the haircut itself was fine - although I felt that the level of effort and overall experience didn’t match up with the price. I probably won’t come here again, for a price above almost every other barber in the area I expected a little ‘more’ in the overall experience. Tl;dr pay $20 extra for a fine but ordinary barber cut.

It took less than 5 minutes and he didn’t even pay attention to the details (what kind of barber doesn’t touch sideburns?). He did a bad job with the scissors too. Never coming here again EVER. Negative experience: Be careful going to their Newmarket branch. I stopped going after 5 visits as each time they increased the price for no reason! I ended up paying as much as $85 for a simple haircut and beard trim. They even had the audacity to tell me to book 2 sessions next time so they could charge me double as 1 session was apparently not enough for a simple haircut and beard trim. I ended up going to another barber who cuts for the All Blacks and charged me just $35 for an awesome haircut and beard trim.
