She shaped my hair perfectly, explained how to style it, and gave great advice on how to let it grow properly. Because of her, I no longer want to cut it short and will keep growing it. Fantastic experience: I’ve been coming to Meloneys Barber for about five years now, and they always do an awesome job. Sue normally does my haircut and I always try to book with her, but on the occasions when she’s been busy and one of the other barbers has stepped in, they’ve done a fantastic job too. I’ve got wavy hair, which can be tricky to cut well, and I’m usually picky about my haircuts. But every time here, whether it’s Sue or the other barbers, they’ve managed to get it just right. Julian, the benevolent puppeteer behind it all, has assembled a team that’s less “staff” and more “ensemble cast.” Each member is a character in their own right, with that rare ability to make you feel like your haircut is the most important thing happening in the city that day. You could literally close your eyes and point at the booking screen and you’ll end up in good hands. Maloney’s is what happens when someone actually gives a shit, not just about hair, but about people. It’s the kind of place you recommend to a mate, not because you have to, but because not doing so would feel like hoarding a life hack. Five stars. Only regret is I can’t leave six.

Positive experience: This is my first time visiting Maloney. I want to start by pointing out that the shop and the crew were very welcoming and pleasant. The barber that I had was also very lovely and warm too. The haircut I received was also ok. I‘m giving this poor review, as I did not receive the service I wanted and booked. For context, I needed a haircut and beard trim for my upcoming wedding. I wanted to treat myself before the big day and wanted a sharp, stylish hot towel shave and haircut. Based on a friend's recommendation and the positive review online, I booked ‘The Works – Haircut & Hot Towel Shave’ via their website. This is the most expensive service on their website, so I was prepared to pay for the extra treatment. When I sit down, and explain to the barber what I want and how I want my beard to be trim. He explained that ‘The Works – Haircut & Hot Towel Shave’ is a full removal of the beard and that he would change my booking in the system. I did mention to him that I still wanted the hot towel and blade shave. But said its now changed to a normal beard trim. I even bought up and mentioned the blade and hot towel a couple more times during my haircut. He even asked me when I sat down, “was this appointment for something special?” and I told him it was for my next week's wedding. So he was aware that it was a special cut. In the end, I was only given a normal haircut and electric clippers shave for my beard (which I was charged correctly for); however, if I wanted a normal cut and electric shave, I would have gone to my local BarberShop Co ~ at less I will get a hot towel at the end. It would be great if you could put a full description on the website that the ‘The Work’ is a full removal of the beard. Please see screenshot. Once again, the barber who attended me was very nice and skilled. The haircut I received was also ok. But at the end of the day, I did not receive the service that I ask and most importantly booked for. Over all I'm very disappointed. I will not recommend Maloney’s for any special cut or traditional shave. ~~~EDIT: ~~~~ The owner of Maloney directly contact me within a week of my review. He acknowledge my disappointment, understood where I was coming from and offered a heart felt apologize. We also came to an agreement. He also took action and updated the description of the 'The Work' on there website, straight away. Mr Maloney's swift responses and action restored my confidence in he shop.

Positive experience: After initially complaining on Friday in regards to the inconsistent pricing I felt I had received, I am happy to say this has been resolved with an adult conversation and great customer service. Despite the misunderstanding I will be returning to the establishment as each time I have visited I have had a very good haircut.

Fantastic experience: Highly recommended!!! This was my first haircut in New Zealand. I had a lot of concerns beforehand, but everything went great. I was served by Julian. He took a lot of time to explain everything to me and was very careful. I showed him a photo of my previous haircut, which he analysed perfectly and the result was at least as good as that of my home hairdresser. Just great!

I agree with previous review though, Julian is a bit of tool which is pretty cool when you are a barber I guess but he is also a decent guy and even more decent hairdresser .

Fantastic experience: I went there yesterday and Harriet was the barber who worked on my hair. Her work was great, efficient and was kind enough to make some tweaks with my cut when I asked. Overall, people were all smiles going in, ambience chill and relax. Will be back here after a month or two.

Fantastic experience: My first haircut in NZ and Luke did an absolutely phenomenal job and did the occasion justice. I gave him a basic outline of what I was going for and let him take the reins from there. His attention to detail is amazing and you can make out that everything he does is well considered and purposeful as he takes his time with it. You absolutely do not feel as if the job is rushed, which is often the case with barbers in my experience. I am used to very simple, plain and rather boring haircuts but I decided to go with some 'artistic freedom' on Luke's part and I'm glad I did. He put a slightly old-school touch to my haircut with the clippers which I'm glad for. The shop in general has a pleasant atmosphere and is a good place to be. The exceptional rating on Google is obviously justified. I'll surely be a returning customer.

Negative experience: Have gone here before, cuts are ok (hence the good reviews) but owner Julian is a real tool. He followed me outside and tried to fight with me over the faulty booking system blaming me for their mistakes. AND to prove this faulty system to them I went home and booked another appointment and sent them an email. I will not support this Julian fellow, there are better places with friendlier owners.

Fantastic experience: Update 2022 onwards: booking online let’s you chose barber and time in advance. No need to ring anymore! Best barber in Auckland. Ring ahead to avoid a long wait on Saturdays and towards the end of the working week.

Antonio saved my hair and I love his work. Not just that I always love the chat and banter with the team. When I'm not sure whether a style will suit me or not, they'll give their honest opinion - which very often are right.

Fantastic experience: I made a walk in appointment for my significant other. The barbers were very friendly and attentive. The interior is decorated with bunch of movie posters and knickknacks so there was always something to draw your eye. With a pleasant experience and quality work, I definitely recommend stopping by.

Negative experience: Asked for just a little off the top, barber immediately hacked a great big chunk off. Couldn't seem to get the sides even so kept going shorter and shorter. Final haircut is a real mess. Walked out looking like a 9 year old that couldn't stop fidgeting in the seat. Wanted to just say thanks, pay and never return but the woman at the till couldn't be bothered looking away from her phone to acknowledge my existence. After several.minutes of standing there like a dork I interrupted her phone time and she got annoyed and pointed rudely at the EFTPOS terminal, without saying a single word. Bad buzz cut and a bad buzz overall unfortunately. EDIT: as below, good response and quickly made amends which is very appreciated.

When I first moved to Auckland I struggled to find a good barber that wanted to do a good job (instead of trying to do the cut as fast as they can). Luke always does every cut with care, consideration and very particular - which is hard to find in a barber these days. And the experience at Maloneys is always so inviting, they really care for all their customers. They know their customers individually and in a world of barbers on every corner it makes all the difference

I’ve been going to Luke for years now, and the brother never fails to perfectly provide the goods with a cut. Negative experience: Maloney’s canceled my booking due to personal values not being aligned to the owner. Unfortunately not an inclusive owner. Keep In mind if your political views do not align with the owner you will likely not be allowed to get a haircut . Very disappointed after complying with all their requirements on the day and being a regular for years. politics shouldn’t play a role in getting a haircut but I guess the current climate brings out the worst in people to judge others so easily with presumptions. This is no reflection on the quality of the barbers individually who are all very skilled at their craft.

However, I have to bring it to your attention, that you have lost your kindness and humaneness as you were becoming popular. I cannot erase my last visit from my memory.
