Sam made me feel right at home and twice now, has given me a great haircut. Professionally, friendly and welcoming service that I’ve now been attending for 2 years without a problem. All the barbers are excellent but Sam’s attention to detail and pride for his business is notable.

Negative experience: Rudest barber I’ve ever had. Rushed my haircut, the sides look awful, uneven. He seemed agitated from the start and made the experience very uncomfortable. I should have walked out.. now I have to go pay another £20 for someone to fix my hair. Honestly save your time and money and go elsewhere.

Fantastic experience: This is one of the best barbers around (I travel a lot) it’s that’s good I drive 40mins every 2 weeks to get my hair cut! Every single one of them is great you are guaranteed to get a good cut! Rudi is fantastic and such a nice guy to talk to. These people go the extra mile they are amazing with all my kids including my 1 year old who being that age can be challenging but not for them they know exactly how to calm him and make it stress free! They remember all their names and my boys and even my daughter just love coming here! You won’t look back P.s I’m screwed if they ever shut! They have set the bar high!

The haircut was quick and great, thank you! The final question of “This is my first time cutting your hair so let me know what else can we do to make it better” really made me feel like he wants to give me the best cut possible and will be the reason I return to Sam’s barbers.

Negative experience: Been going here for years but recently experienced a big change in overall customer service/etiquette. Today, I pre- booked (charged a fee) online with my usual barber for a beard trim and upon my arrival I was told that he had to leave and that I was emailed to request a change/cancellation (this wasn’t true). Due to spending my time and money to travel into town, I agreed to another barber. Following the cut (which took about 5/10 mins) I was still charged an additional fee of £6 alongside the £10 I paid online to secure the booking. No apology and still wishing to charge me for a service (booking a specific barber) that wasn’t fulfilled. In addition to this, a friend of mine was called out on his receding hairline by a female barber infront of a shop full of customers. He felt humiliated. Not impressed and will be choosing to go elsewhere.

Fantastic experience: If you want a proper barbershop then Sam's is the place for you. Been coming here since I moved to Reading and wouldn't consider going anywhere else. Judging by the number of people waiting from 9am each day I'd say I'm not alone! Recommend that you book your slot in advance on their website otherwise you might be waiting a long time, especially around the busy hours.

Fantastic experience: I have been using Sam and his team's services for several years now and they never failed to deliver exceptional service. My haircut is being maintained by Agnes, an exceptionally skilled barber, who pays attention to details and listens to her customer's needs and expectations. I have been living outside Reading, but I still prefer to take a train and treat myself to a monthly spa at Sam's, no matter the journey.

Fantastic experience: Nipped in for a trim here whilst I was in the neighbourhood based on the positive Google reviews. Turned out to be a great haircut, friendly service and a reasonable price. The only negative aspect was the necessity to pay in cash which is slightly inconvenient and antiquated in 2025. Not enough of a nuisance to justify dropping a full star given the quality of the cut but I'd probably dock half a star if this was an option.

Negative experience: Not great. I don't usually complain about my haircut I asked for a high fade with spiky back and front. Look's more like a dog's dinner. Been going here for a while on and off and this is the worst haircut i've had. I'm not even sure I can do anything with it. I also pay a lot more for my hair than anyone else. My hair is short to start with and I get charged £25 which is not even a price on their website.

Fantastic experience: Went here for the first time today. Had a haircut with Rudi. It was brilliant. I’m super happy. He did a haircut exactly how I asked and gave some tips on how to style it. Awesome guy and awesome barbershop. Would definitely recommend it! Can’t say anything wrong about it, maybe just a small thing that no coffee or other drink was offered but that’s a minor inconvenience as I care more about a good haircut rather than coffee. Anyway, really happy with the service I got! 5/5 :)

Negative experience: Asked to have less than a quarter of an inch taken off the front and to tidy up the back and sides, since I just wanted the style that I had at the time but shorter. Instead he took more than two inches off the front and shaved everything else off to oblivion. Now I've got to wait probably 2 months to get my old style back and whilst I wait, I look like an idiot.

Finally went in a week days ago and did a haircut from long hair to short hair. It was my first time there. I showed a few references for my new style. Fantastic experience: Always enjoy going to Sam's for a regular trim. I normally go first thing as a walk-in and have never had to wait too long to be seen. All the staff are friendly and will look to work with you to understand what you're after for your hair. I have medium-long, thick, straight hair which requires a fair amount of effort to trim, the staff always do a good job and I appreciate the attention to detail. They will always ask if I want any product at the end to help 'finish off' the look. Would recommend highly.

Fantastic experience: This is a great barbers - I've been coming for several months now and I'd highly recommend it. Sam is very diligent and asks questions to tailor the cut to my preferences, I'm always very happy with the result. It's also a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

Negative experience: I needed my hair cut, so I booked them because they were the best reviewed in town. I have nothing to say about the haircut,but when it came time to pay they asked me for an extra £5 (£29) because I have long hair, even though from the booking "long hair" it was £24. Maybe because, not being English, I had no way to argue properly? Fine, no problem I ask to pay by card and am asked to go and withdraw to pay in cash, at that point I was free to leave, but like a good citizen I went to withdraw, paid a further £3 in fees and came back to pay. So my £24 haircut became £32. Even if I think that this amount for a haircut (for what I did) is too much, it is not a monetary issue, but of fairness towards the customer who comes to relax and enjoy the haircut.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been visiting Sam’s now for well over a year, and had my hair cut by a number of the staff, and every time they’ve cut my hair really well, despite my vague requests! Shout out to Rudi for explaining what he was doing to help me ask for something less vague in future!

At the time of day I visit, it’s usually Sam and Ingrida working and they are both so thorough with customer requests and check at different stages of the cut to ensure you are happy with everything. In the past, I’ve had barbers that ‘do their own thing’ or maybe struggle to work with my hair type, but I’m certain Ingrida is the best stylist I’ve ever had. And you always get a welcome or goodbye from all staff working - which does make a difference!

Fantastic experience: I have long hair, which can be a bit of a pain to cut and generally takes longer than usual. However Ingrida very kindly always takes my appointments, and always does a fantastic job. All staff very friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended.

Negative experience: I travelled from Burghfield today for a 10:30 haircut, after stopping for CASH as they don’t accept card (tax evasion)cans getting there for 10:40 I was told Rudy had gone home as he waited and waited. They didn’t call or email or offer a refund for my £10. All I was told was to come back tomorrow. This is the worst customer service I have received in a long time. Hopefully this review costs them the £10 plus £2.40 I paid for parking. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!!

Fantastic experience: Superb barbers. Have been visiting Sam's Barbers for years now after trying several others in Reading. Always deliver a consistent quality of haircut regardless of which barber cuts your hair. Unlike many others, the barbers are skilled with scissor as well as clippers which makes a huge difference.

Fantastic experience: Had an excellent haircut from Jay here this afternoon. One of the best cuts in a long time. I have difficult straight hair, with a double crown at the back and a cowlick at the front. To top it off, it had been ruined previously by a barber who had no idea what he was doing and shaved it all way too high, leaving it patchy and uneven. Jay was brilliant and communicated the whole way through the cut, making professional suggestions and fixed it with no hassle - some bits still need to grow out, but what can you do. Great stuff.

Negative experience: Came in as a walk in and waited 40 minutes before leaving without a haircut. The issue is you can be next in line but people with appointments come in and skip the queue. So you could be waiting more than an hour without being seen, even though the queue is not big. No communication from staff about appointments or how long you will be waiting.
