Fantastic experience: Awesome haircut. Very kind, polite.

Negative experience: My son has been growing his hair out for quite awhile wanting to have a certain style. Needs to be long to achieve. Went here to get my son’s haircut thinking they specialize in men’s haircuts. Showed the hairdresser a picture on my phone. She then says low taper fade. And starts. I say no and show the picture again. She tries another style and tries to get my son to say he likes it. I sent him back in and showed her the picture again. By then it was short. She proceeds to give him a short comb over. By then I said ok that’s enough he’d end up with a buzz cut . 3 tries and all different haircuts. Never again will I go here. Beauty about hair is it grows back! And he’s still handsome anyways

I have been to many different barbers and stylists over my four decades on this planet — never have I experienced the meticulous attention and care for every single strand of hair that Oleg invests in every cut. I have been to him frequently over the past year, nearly once a month, and never has his talent, skill, precision, eye for detail and excellence wavered or faltered during these many visits. I wish more folks knew about his extra-ordinary craftsmanship and I have told my friends about him— if they want the highest quality service. I didn’t know what to expect when walking in to Tommy Gun’s St Vital for the first time just this past year, in a quest to find a new stylist after my previous stylist moved and I could no longer access services. That prior relationship had lasted for 15 years. In Oleh, I sincerely hope that such a long relationship will endure once again. I always walk out of every cut knowing that his work is a masterpiece — and others notice it too! Everything about the Tommy Gun’s experience, from the offer of a pop drink, to televisions in the mirror for kids, and even the efficient set up of each station, all make for a highly memorable and enjoyable experience. But it is the human connection and service quality that matters most above all else and with Oleh, he is the best representative and embodiment of Tommy Gun’s and the great experience that makes my monthly visits the very best.

Fantastic experience: I enjoyed my experience with my barber, Mo. Not only did he give me a crisp hairdo, he was very courteous, knowledgeable, kind, and understanding. Mo was definitely suited for this job. He has a very friendly way of speaking and making people comfortable. When I waited for the bus in the cold after my haircut, I refused to put on my toque because I felt so confident I didn’t want to mess up my hair. Fantastic experience: I went in about a year ago and had a notngreat experience Arlene reached out to me personally and offered me a free cut. I was hesitant but a year later (today) I went for that free cut and she still honored it not only that I got one of the best haor cuts I've ever had and will definitely be booking again! Goes to show some places actually care about their customers ❤️

Fantastic experience: Was great went in first time and got a great haircut but also a drink and coupons for my visit. 10 out of 10

Negative experience: Overall quality is good and place is good and clean But it is very concerning that some staff are not fluent in English, which lead to misinterpretation of what we want. I’m all for integration of immigrant but they need to speak English while working on customer service

Negative experience: I went there September 12th and I was getting a hair and beard trim. I told the barber the areas that I wanted trimmed. After 40 minutes, he then trimmed way more off than what I had asked. Beard was uneven and I left disappointed. Will not go back

Negative experience: Worst haircut experience i had recently. Other Tommy guns shops are fine. I have been to the one in St vital two times and bad experience both time. There was a barber (don't know the name) but kept on chewing gum the whole time. Last time he did a terrible cut. and today when i went there hoping I don't the same barber again. Today when. i went there, halfway through my haircut, I realised he is the same barber who cut my hair last time. His hands were literally shaking while he cut my hair. Also, he put some oil on my hair which i didn't asked for. When i got back home and took a bath, i realised, He didn't blend the sides properly and left the length of the hair uneven. Not recommended, rather go to the one in polo park mall.

Fantastic experience: Mohammed "Mo" is our preferred barber. My husband solely visits him due to his exceptional friendliness, constant smiling, and overall pleasant demeanor. He attentively listens to our instructions for my husband's hair and beard trimming. In contrast, other barbers at this location and elsewhere have demonstrated inadequate listening skills and unfriendliness. We appreciate Mo's service and will continue to visit him.

Fantastic experience: Took my 5 year old for a hair cut today first time there and it was a great experience. I was offered a drink while I waited and the barber was so good with my son he put cartoons on for him and offered him a drink and snacks after. Was a very quick, but thorough cut and he even kept checking with me to make sure it was what I wanted for him. We were both very happy with the experience and we will be back!

Negative experience: I came here and chose the package on their website for beard and hair cut 52$. But they ended up asking me to pay around 78$. When i inquired, they said because we used "razor." The barber also tried to lecture me at the end on how i should ask about the price before doing the service.

Negative experience: Won’t be coming back. This was my first time trying a different salon, and I’m really disappointed with the haircut outcome. I’ll stick with Case & Park at Keewatin—just a few bucks more, but the quality and results are premium.

Negative experience: Terrible experience for my son with the first barber I believe his name was Moe he raises his voice at my son and also tried to cut more than 7 inches off his hair and all he wanted was just a trim my son jumped off his chair and stepped away another barber stepped in to do his hair how he wanted it and not a problem with her she made him feel way more comfortable.. the front took my number and email and never heard back from the manager all this happened on April 3/25...

Negative experience: Came here looking forward to a nice haircut, Showed him a picture of what I wanted which was a messy fringe with a low taper. He then proceeded to say “yeah man I got u” and then took off and inch of hair when I only said a quarter inch off the top. He ending up giving me a horrible military haircut close to a buzz…. Even during the hair wash he was super rough. He was also very rough with the clippers leaving the whole back of my head red. Will NOT be coming back ANYTIME soon as the haircut was nothing like I asked. Definitely not worth the 50$ I spent.

Negative experience: I have brought my sons here multiple times. The convenience of being in the mall and not having to book ahead of time is appealing. Unfortunately our experiences have been so hit or miss (with more misses) that we won’t be coming back. The last time we went I showed the barber a picture of what my son wanted. He agreed. I left the barber area and sat in the hall waiting for the cut to be done (it was crowded). When the cut was done it was nothing like I had shown the barber. The barber even shaved the front of my son’s hairline back and left his hair wet. It is awful. My son is 10 and doesn’t like to assert himself with adults. The barber knew I wasn’t happy with it but didn’t offer to fix it.

Negative experience: I do not recommend this establishment for haircuts. After growing my hair for two years, I visited for an undercut hairstyle and clearly communicated my desire for a uniform trim of one inch all around while keeping the top long. Unfortunately, the barber cut my hair in a zigzag pattern and removed approximately three inches instead. I was quite dissatisfied and sought a refund, which was refused. Although another barber attempted to rectify the situation, the result was still not what I had requested. I have included photos to illustrate my expectations versus the actual outcome.

Fantastic experience: Was greeted with a big smile. Was scheduled for an appointment for 30 minutes later. Called 10 minutes later to ask if I wanted to come in early!!! Yes please. Geraldine SERIOUSLY knocked it out of the park with hair cut, beard trim, shave...the works. I popped in there spur of the moment because I couldn't get into see my regular person at their salon quickly. I'm having a bit of a crisis now because the service and end result was so good. I have NO hesitancy in recommending Tommy Gun's at St. Vital Mall and especially Geraldine who is a funny, skillful, rockstar with the scissors, clippers and razor.

Negative experience: I went to go get a haircut today and I showed a picture of what I wanted and they completely did the wrong thing its not even at the front it looks terrible and if your a man I suggest to get a haircut from a man not a female and I don't want to take my hat off because of how bad it is

Negative experience: It's always nice to drop in and get a haircut, but I guess its always about luck on which barber you get. I've been going there for a while, some of my cuts were good, some weren't, but the last was disastrous. The haircut didn't look so bad at the time, but when I went back home and showered, I discovered the disaster in my hair. Some random hairs are longer than the others and was clearly and inevitably noticeable that it was uneven at all on the top. Basically, the barber I got misunderstood the hairstyle I wanted and then when I explained further he rushed the rest of the cut. I understand that the cut may have taken longer than usual, in which I compensated with a tip over 30% (which I wish I could take back), but miscommunication does not give you the right to mess up my hair. Not to mention, I wasn't even given the hot towel service that was mentioned in the cut and my hair wasn't washed after the cut so all the little hairs that he cut were falling on my shirt when I left. Very bad experience on my last visit, and currently considering another barber to fix my hair as it looks really embarrassing.

Negative experience: What a weird experience! Pros: - Took me as a walk-in. (I had an hour to burn, and was planning on getting a haircut soon, so why not?) - Warm towel service was nice. Unexpected. (I guess it was supposed to come with a scalp massage too, but I didn't notice.) Cons: - 5 minutes after they started cutting, they fetch a remote and turned on a TV hidden behind the mirror. Totally took me by surprise, and I hated it. God, I hate random TV, and I hate commercials even more. And when it's placed right in front of your face when you're expected to look straight ahead? Might as well have been a Clockwork Orange type scenario. I just kept my gaze adverted so I didn't have to take in the visual noise. If they noticed my discomfort, they didn't care. (If you don't want to make small talk with me, that's FINE. Some people are very comfortable with silence. People like me enjoy just being still and not being bombarded with media.) If she would have asked if I wanted to watch something, I would have declined. I don't know why she foisted that on me. I assume that all the TVs were connected, because it looked like all the other stations had TVs on too. - Did I mention how much I dislike commercials being foisted on me? The music playing was nice. Having the music interrupted by commercials for blah-blah-blah hair products was not nice. - She asked me if I always parted my hair to the left. I said, no, when I get it cut, I pull it forward, and put it to the left when it gets longer. When she finished cutting it, she parted it to the right. I was SO confused. I'm open to new things, but if you're going to drastically change how my hair behaves, can you at least tell me if it's because it looks better that way or is it just because you got confused and forgot. - She finished cutting it, put some product in, then asked me what I thought. I told her I couldn't see, because the TV was on. Rather than turning it off, she grabbed a little handheld mirror for me to look in. (WHAT IS THE POINT OF A FULL LENGTH MIRROR ON THE WALL IF I'M NOT SUPPOSED TO USE IT TO SEE MYSELF??) I was very surprised by how long it still was (and the fact that it was parted the other way). I didn't know what to say, because all of my expectations were thrown out the window. But... she put product in. If I wanted it shorter, she would have to wash out the product and then trim it some more, right? What's the point in checking in with the client after you've locked it in place?? - They offered me a drink on my way out. I declined because I was so confused and upset. But, honestly, wouldn't you prefer your hospitality to be connected with your customer's experience in your shop? You offer me a drink while I'm walking past the food court, and it's not going to impact me the same as if I'm sitting your chair, sipping on a drink. I dunno. It was weird. (I guess there's a chance of stray hairs flying into your drink. Hmm. nevermind. It was weird.) I have a wedding I'm doing in 2 weeks that I want to look my best for. I thought I'd get my hair done a little shorter than usual so it would be the perfect length in 2 weeks. My expectations were botched so badly that I don't expect to "look fresh" for the wedding. Thanks.

Negative experience: If you are a guy, you should only get cut by male barbers and not female barbers. I had to wait for 40 minutes for a haircut. A person who got here later than me got to cut their hair first and I had to wait. The front desk was incompetent. I asked for a male barber but I got a female instead. I didn’t want to cause a scene so I went along with it. The cut was bad. She does not know how to cut hair. The sides were disappointing and very bland and have no texture at all. One side was higher than the other. She has done worse than any other barber I have visited. I am not coming back ever again.

Ask for Adam, and let his expertise speak for itself. One more tip for you. When you arrive at the reception, clearly state your preference for a high-quality service. Allow yourself the luxury of dedicating 45 minutes to an hour for a haircut with this true professional, and you will see the difference.

Negative experience: My son just got home from a haircut at this "barber" and this is what they did...he wanted a nice hair and ended up looking like this. He will have to go to a barber tomorrow to get if fixed now.

Negative experience: Went and got a haircut today with my friend, worst experience ever. Barber I got was rude and told me to just let him cut my hair and that he knew what he was doing basically inciting that I did not know what I wanted for my hair, also told him I did not want any product in my hair but he was so reluctant to put this dumb curl cream in my head that I just let him. Terrible experience, honestly don't see myself coming back here. Even showed him a photo of my the haircut I wanted which was one I previously had, yet he still managed to mess it up so badly. I am so disappointed and upset.

Negative experience: Went to Tommy Gun's due to a last minute cancellation with my regular hairdresser. Arrived shortly after 9am on a Friday morning, and was greeted by a receiptionist who looked like she would rather be anywhere else on earth. Didn't smile, barely spoke above a whisper and seemed annoyed when I asked her to repeat her question. Hairdresser cut my hair like she was being timed for the Olympics - not sure what the rush was as no one else was waiting. Didn't really ask much about haircut I wanted, didn't really speak at all and also seemed like they were very unhappy to be there. Resultant haircut was mediocre at best. Different receptionist on the way out barely glanced as she handed me the machine for payment. Will not be back ever again; I'm sure Magic Cuts could do a better job. A completely unpleasant and unprofessional experience all aroud.

Negative experience: Had a haircut done for my son- showed a photo to the stylist at start but she ended up cutting my son’s hair too short and not even all aligned. Was not very happy with our stylist either- she was rude from the beginning to the end of the service. Was not pleasant at all. Not even a greeting at the start, didn’t bother to direct us to my son’s seat, just looked at us and looked at the chair we were supposed to sit, my son is only 2 and the way she treated him was really off, didn’t have any patience at all, when my son would move a little when he was being shaved, she would rudely say, “Don’t move!”, “I can’t cut your hair if you keep moving!”. When I asked her to do a little more shave, she rudely said, “I’m not done!”. If I could rate her service, I would rate it 0. At the end of the cut, she didn’t even initiate shaking off the cut hair on my son’s neck or shirt- I had to do it myself and she had already washed her hand and took a clean towel to wipe it off- then after that did she use the towel to dry her hand and shake off “some of the hair left on my son’s skin. I’m not one to leave a negative review but the experience we had with her was just awful.

Negative experience: Basically when you go, no matter what you show the barber (reference wise and instructions) they’re gonna go their own way and do what they want- I had a barber a few months ago who I had to straight up argue with over every detail. He would argue with me and say he wanted to do something else that he liked, I’d have to tell him that’s not what I wanted, and he’d try to argue and persuade me- he even tried to give me an eyebrow notch and I said no and he pleaded with me. By the end of it I did have a good enough haircut but it’s because I had to puppet him throughout the entire experience and fight with him. He literally gave me a hard edge bowl cut at first when the pictures I showed him were a layer textured middle part with an undercut… then was confused and I had to fight with him to blend and fade it.

Negative experience: I booked haircut appointment at St Vital Winnipeg for barber Adam as i was recommended by friend and then i waited for the Adam an hour and half long and then my turn came he refused to take me after i asked if the barber Michelle is available , then front desk said Michelle to take me but he also refused to take me it seems like they don’t want to take me. Rude and worst experience never gonna recommend anybody else.

Negative experience: Update August 2,2023 I went back with my kids and even though I booked Jess they put us with someone else. What a horrible experience. Please hire people that can cut hair. One women literally chopped ALL of my daughters hair off and SHAVED HER HEAD. We showed her pictures of a person with longer hair, absolutely no where did the person have shaved head. I won’t ever go back and will never recommend this place. It’s going to take my daughter over a year to grow her hair out. This person should find a new career. Old review. - based on my experience with Jess and only Jess. She is amazing! I took my son to the barber shop as a walk-in and he got Jess as his stylist. We showed her a picture for inspiration and I also explained to her that my son was really shy and might not be able to articulate what he is thinking when she asks him questions on how he wants his hair cut. I waited just outside of the salon while Jess was cutting his hair and at one point Jess came out to talk to me about the haircut and where to proceed. She completely involved my son in the process of what he should do with his hair, but she also knew that because he was shy he needed me to help him make a final decision and she was respectful of that. Social anxiety is real, and to find a stylist who can respect this has been difficult. Thank you Jess for making the experience a good one. We will be back. And the hair cut is amazing!

Positive experience: I was a great experience, a lot more than a mere haircut! Only one negative, I asked for my hair to be cut, in a certain way, she looked confused, so I gave an example, a very famous person... I asked her to cut my hair short, on the sides and back, and leave it a bit longer on top, like Elvis ... she said ok, I understand. What I got was nothing like it. It was very short, like military/cop short. In my head, I was like this is a great haircut, I liked it, but it's nothing like Elvis??? I didn't complain, because it was still a great cut, perfect for my new job, and you can't put it back, so ... and at least it grows back.

Negative experience: On June 27th at 1 pm. We have come here a few times and the receptionist and stylist have always been very friendly. Today we walked up to the counter and a Male stylist named Michel insulted then laughed at my Son's hair. I was upset as my Son was clearly offended. Just for everyone's info,, he just finished lunch recess and his hair was all over the place. This stylist ate in front of staff and clients. This is the rudest most unprofessional person that I have encountered here. Why would a person be employed by such a place? This person gave Tommy Gunns a bad name today.. reconsideration of who they employ.. clearly not this person J Mc

Fantastic experience: Never usually go to tommy guns but was in need of a fade because my usual barber was booked up. Went down there and got lucky enough that the new barber who just started (Adam) had an opening. Let me tell you this guy is the real deal. The fade i received was a textbook perfect fade. Since i first came ive gone back ever since! I recommend Adam to anyone!

Negative experience: I had a hair cut and colouring at this place yesterday. I appreciated that they admitted me even though the time was tight; however, the barber was rude and kept asking personal questions despite the fact that I was reluctant to even talk to him. He also did a terrible job with trimming and I was too tired to argue and there was no point. There were stains of colour everywhere in my face and forehead. As my usual practice I just paid and even tipped (just to be polite) and left. Waste of money and and now I have to wait a month with this terrible haircut.

Fantastic experience: My Stylist, I believe his name was Michel? Great young man, really took pride in his work. I couldn't have been happier with how my beard turned out. He is definitely a keeper!

Negative experience: Bad haircut overall didn’t get what I asked for, he called someone on the phone and made me wait 5 minutes while he laughed with his friend on the phone

Negative experience: The worst haircut I’ve ever had. The barber I had is an ultimate champion in category “Most obliquely hair cut”. He got a bonus points also for not completed haircut, which was discovered when I returned home. I a day after this care I need to go to barbershop again. Total waste of money.

Fantastic experience: The staff was friendly. The lady that cut my hair was extremely friendly and very professional. I was very happy with my hair cut and beard grooming. I will definitely be going back to see her next time I need a cut.
