Negative experience: No conversation at all and months of hair growth gone. Pretty cheap for cairns but guess I got what I paid for - Reckon it’s good for a fade from looking around but would go elsewhere for a tidy up on long hair

Negative experience: Downhill big time. Sat for 20 minutes while Freddy mercury's doppelganger stood around No hello Just ignored Used to be one of the best barbers in the country without exaggeration quality of fade was easily on par with bigger cities higher end barbers. Genuinely unfortunate.

Negative experience: One of the worst haircuts I’ve ever had. Asked for a low fade. Could still clearly see how low my previous one was. Grabbed the side of my hair and took a shaver straight to it. I have long hair on top so now it looks so stupid as they have come way too far up.

Negative experience: Not some place I would go ever again. Kinda isn't an all-rounder barber. Doesn't really show or pay much attention to detail. They seem to be only good at certain ethnic style haircuts. Won't really recommend from the stand point of not really professional or friendly.

Negative experience: I ve never been sad for a haircut until this moment. Have visited a coupled of times this place, first one was so good and the guy (AKAM) who cut my hairs was so kind. Exactly understood what i wanted. On the 2nd tym Im just popped out disappointed abt this place, the price wasn’t the same i paid for on first time and the girl who cut my hair was rude and saw her face when she ripped the nape hair off, i asked for a nice mullet (which meas, long hair at the back and short on top) and guess i got short my whole hair. Price was raised from 35 to 40 bucks in 3 weeks and she replied was the fixed price for backpackers which wasn’t the last tym. Disgusting experience, now i got a navy/military haircut.

Fantastic experience: I’m really shit at getting my hair cut (and saying what I want because I don’t really know how) but Akam was a legend. Super friendly and chill guy and gave me a great haircut even despite me having fairly difficult hair according to other stylists I’ve gone to. I told him I wanted one thing and halfway through I was like, ‘uhhhhm I want something else’ pretty much and he was a real legend, patient and even taught me some things for the future so I wouldn’t have such a hard time at the barbers (had a stint of cutting my own hair and it was always crap). Really appreciated that! They’re super popular so there’s a bit of a wait sometimes but it’s well worth it and all the barbers seem awesome, and you’ll most definitely get a really good cut by anyone there. So buckle in and read a magazine (or just doomscroll) and you’ll be happy you waited. Cheers guys! Also hot towel was super comforting I could’ve just sat there for a long time but everyone else waiting would’ve had to go home probably!

Very cheap compared to other barbers in the area, it was $35 and I even got a hot towel! They also do walk-ins which is very convenient - would highly recommend to anyone in Cairns/ visiting Cairns.

Fantastic experience: Each haircut takes around 20 to 30 minutes so wait can be lengthy. Well worth the wait and a great value at $38 Australian. I got my haircut as did a wife and husband of Viking Sky.

Fantastic experience: I highly recommend this hair salon! Casey has cut my hair twice, and I noticed that she is very meticulous and attentive to every detail. As a French speaker, I appreciated that she understood exactly what I wanted just by showing her a photo of the hairstyle I had in mind. Previously, I tried another salon in Cairns, Le Cartel, but the haircut didn’t meet my expectations, and the price was higher. At Shorty’s, however, the service is excellent, and they offer discounts for backpackers. I highly recommend it!

Casey got the chops with the blades and has a mean playlist on shuffle that my teenage daughter once described as …vibes. Brooklyn 99 reruns on the tv! Akan is an astute and worldly conversationalist. He got game with the fades and cutting wiry facial hair like mine. I’ve yet to find out how good the other barbers are but I’ll keep you posted and you’ll be sure to see me there today.

Fantastic experience: Such a good experience!! Great barber shop in a central Cairns CBD location with nice, clean, and modern interior (without the modern day barber shop kitsch). Haircut was excellent, and all the staff had a chill but professional vibe. Pricing was under $40 for a short hair tidy up, so very reasonable given the skill of the staff. Will definitely come back next time in Cairns for a tidy up.

Positive experience: I wouldn't go there if I was in a hurry... Which I guess is a good and bad thing? It's walk ins only and I wouldn't say this fits with how long the cuts take, there were 4 people ahead of me and I waited over an hour. There's attention to detail, but that's just ridiculous. There's also no mention of prices anywhere, even in the barbers. The lad that served me was very friendly.

Fantastic experience: If you're looking to go from scruffy homeless person to dapper gentleman, Shorty's Barber Shop is the place for you. I mean, I walked in looking like I had been living under a bridge for the past year, and I walked out looking like a million bucks (well, at least a few hundred bucks). The owner, Lianne, knows her way around a pair of scissors like nobody's business. She snipped and clipped and shaved and styled until I looked like I could walk the runway at Paris Fashion Week. And let me tell you, the other homeless people were jealous. So if you're looking for a good laugh, a great haircut, and a chance to go from scruffy to suave, head on down to Shorty's Barber Shop in Cairns. Lianne and her crew will have you looking like a million bucks (or at least your hair will, they unfortunately can't fix an ugly face).

Fantastic experience: I've been to Shorty's once before and was trimmed by the boss herself! I was a little wary when coming in to find her not there, but got an awesome cut from new member Bella. The Cairns weather wasn't treating her kindly but she sure treated my hair and beard with kindness. Brilliant job and excellent value!

Negative experience: The barber didn’t do a traditional “cut throat” so disappointing it shouldn’t have to be something you ask for it should be known that’s what a barber does. Shaping my beard was uneven and missed some hairs. I needed to go somewhere else to get it fixed. Good atmosphere and friendly staff but can only rate 2 stars based on my experience I wouldn’t go back for a beard trim. Hopefully this is taken as constructive criticism and from now on the “cut throat” technique can be implemented and the standard is set at a higher level.
