Fantastic experience: I want to shout out the Black Orchid business model. Today, I was given an apprentice barber. I was told up front that I was going to have an apprentice and it would be free. I did have a little bit of a wait but I will say that I had exceptional experience. The apprentice took a great deal of time to get my haircut right and gave me a menu of options for each part of my haircut. The atmosphere inside was unique with the subway tile. It feels really good to treat myself to a nice haircut, save money on getting a haircut and helping to advance the career of an up and coming barber. it made my deal feel "that" much better.

Positive experience: A little pricey, but they do great work and it's super convenient.

Fantastic experience: I had my cut from Dillon ( hoped I spelled it correctly) an apprentice and he did a good job. Zach the trainer was knowledgeable and hands on in the training when need be. Good and clean work space. Gained a new customer and I will definitely be back!

Fantastic experience: Great haircut and conversation with Damien. Super attentive to what I wanted and never cut too much before asking. As someone with curly hair, that was nice because you have to leave your hair longer than you would think to ensure the curls don’t get too short.

Fantastic experience: Update : After my first review, Travis (the owner) reached out and offered to fix my haircut at any Black Orchid location. He was super professional and understanding, and really cared about making things right. I’m changing my rating to 5 stars because the follow-up and customer service were top-notch. I’ll probably go to the Mass Ave location for future cuts, but I really appreciate how they handled everything. Original post: I have been to black orchid barbers 4-5 times so far(different locations), this location seems to feel like supercuts now. My appointment today only took 15 minutes, and I realized my hair is literally asymmetrical when I got home. This is very upsetting because it is hard to take time from our schedule and getting an asymmetrical haircut..

Positive experience: EDIT: since my initial review I have had correspondence with the owner of Black Orchid, Travis, and his is aware of the noise issue and is actively trying to resolve the problem. I am bumping my review up to 4 stars. Again my only issue is the music which is not Black Orchids fault but it does affect your experience while you are there. Original review (2stars): As always Lexi did a fantastic job cutting my hair. I have been going to her for almost a year now and her work never disappoints. What has recently been disappointing is the audaciously loud music/“DJing” that was going on in the common space. We had to yell at each other for my whole visit to communicate. Apparently this has been an issue the past few months and has been affecting all of the businesses in the AMP. I hope that events can still happen without affecting other operations in the AMP. If it continues as it has been I will find somewhere else to get my hair cut.

Fantastic experience: When my barber had to cancel they were able to get me in on the same day at a different location. The experience was excellent as usual!

Fantastic experience: Butchered my beard trying to do it myself, think 2 year old left alone with scissors. Jason worked his magic and all is better. I've had many barbers at Black Orchid and NEVER have had a complaint. They are the only group I trust my beard to in Indy!

Negative experience: I asked for a few inches to be taken off, I even showed a reference picture of myself from last year and the result was MUCH shorter than my reference photo. I thought they understood my request when I asked to save as much length as possible while getting me back to my reference photo, it felt like they used it as an opportunity to do something creative that I didn't ask for. I wasn't asked if I like product in my hair or how I style it so at the end I didn't look anything like my reference photo. I just wanted my hair cut back to my photo, I wouldn't want to go back.

Negative experience: Bad haircut received on 05/23. Will not recommend. Haircut charges waived by barber.

Positive experience: Normally this is a great experience but the last two times it felt like great clips. If I’m paying $35+ for a hair cut, I’d like some time taken on it. My son and I had back to back appointments; his took 8 minutes and mine took 15. Quality was average. I’ve got to clean up some spots on the back of my son’s neck but overall it’s ok.

I was a little nervous since I’ve had the same barber for almost three years, but I’d say it was one of the best cuts I ever got. Most barbers don’t nail it on the first time around, but Damien definitely did. He listened to what I wanted and delivered - what more could you ask for?

Positive experience: I booked an appointment with Nick Glowner and he gave me the exact haircut I wanted. I also enjoyed the extra hot towel service that’s provided with my appointment.

Positive experience: I’ve had two cuts with different barbers at black orchid-one was the worst haircut I’ve ever had, the other was better but the hair stylist kept banging my head with the clippers. Like: a lot a lot. More than 25 times. It was just careless. The rapid expansion of this chain leads me to think they are hiring less experienced people and are working to be more like Great Clips with tattoos. I’m not going back. Pros: high availability. Able to get decent cut if you want something very simple. High availability.

The music and the conversation was congruent, and the barbers were genuinely welcoming. #2- Efficiency. I signed up right online, and I was still next in the chair like I was a walk-in. #3- Results. I gave the barber the necessary latitude as an artist, and he still gave me the final say to make sure I was cool with the end result. Hopefully it’s like this every time, and at all locations.

The QR code for booking was easy to use and they got me in for a beard trim right away. The barber was friendly and skilled, and he gave me a nice shape and style for my beard.
