His attention to detail and making sure things were perfect stood out the most to me. So needless to say we went in for a walk in but left with a forever Barber for my two boys and I.

Negative experience: My hair stylist was AWESOME! I just want to say that first and foremost however, I scheduled an appointment knowing it would be pricy, no sweat I wanted to donate my hair and I realize no where does that direct any more; again no problem. I had at the time hair past my shoulders and was asking for them to essentially shave it almost BALD and keep my hair to send to locks of love for cancer patients. The girl at the front desk then calls it a “massive transformation” as if it’s decepticons vs otobots to shave my head..she tells me it will be $25 more for this..don’t get me wrong my stylist was EXTREMELY talented..but also couldn’t shave my neck, trim my beard, or even WASH MY HAIR..and the standard is $50 but my appointment was $75 BEFORE tip‍ Best of luck to all of you, however NEVER again. Felt like I got SCAMMED and no..I don’t want a “free haircut” or any of that. I just would NEVER go here again‍♂️ Over priced for way less than others, great talent, but too high of a cost. After reading their website I was ROBBED! Didn’t get a shampoo, didn’t get a warm towel, did not get a neck shave so was literally overcharged just because, skip this place entirely‍♂️

From the moment we walked in, the hospitality was incredible (a cold beer and genuine conversation!). Adam at the front desk is a rare soul. He didn’t just make small talk- he listened with empathy and offered grace and respect regarding a difficult personal chapter I’m navigating. His kindness meant the world to me. Meanwhile, Shawn gave my son a great experience in his barber's chair. He actually spoke to my son, listening to his style goals rather than just asking me. He treated a 13-year-old with professional respect while making expert "executive calls" to ensure the cut looked perfect. If you want a place that values both craft and character, go see Adam and Shawn!

Fantastic experience: I came in today for a very untraditional haircut. After not having cut my hair for over 3 years, I wanted to do something crazy with it. I decided I wanted to get Viking braids, and after calling around to multiple shops who said they wouldn’t be comfortable doing something like that, I found 4:59 Barber Lounge who was up for the challenge. Vivianne was my stylist and she did NOT disappoint. The haircut and style came out far better than I ever could have imagined, and chatting with her during the appointment was an absolute pleasure too. The vibe was great, and I loved every second of my experience here. I will definitely be coming back in the future when it’s time for a touch up. Thanks again so much Vivianne, I love my new look. You absolutely killed it!

Negative experience: Must not know the meaning of a high bald fade and the hard part I asked for does not exist. I should have known better when I saw that they were asking for a five-star review all over the shop. Maybe you should worry about hiring barbers that know how to give Bald fades instead of correcting your clients grammer. You are just mad because you want a five star review for a assembly line hair cut you can at any supercuts.

Positive experience: This barber lounge has been a staple of the Keystone Shoppes for many years, inside awaits a cozy atmosphere; open & enclosed stylist areas; and comfy chairs to wait in if it's busy. As a bonus, they have never failed to offered a water after arriving, a small touch but very appreciated! Of course the cuts *are* higher priced than run-of-the-mill Great/Sport Clips, (min. $30-50) but, the value for me here is that their stylists are professional, conversational, and really show their expertise. During my latest visit, I sat with stylist Ivy G who completely flipped the script for me of what to expect from a hairstylist. She really took the time to ask questions; offer suggestions when I was unsure (which was a lot); lightly recommended products I may want to purchase without being pushy; and overall made my visit so fun! Often when getting a cut elsewhere, I feel rushed, pushed to buy products, or feel like a number in a quota, so when I say I felt like a king at 4:59, I mean it - the personal touch is not yet dead here! I will continue to share 4:59 with friends who are not in the Keystone area, I'd just ask whoever is writing responses to reviews to find a different hobby. EDIT (at risk of being banned for having an opinion): After scrolling through recent reviews, I'm revising my 5-star rating. The stylists I've had remain 5/5—this is not regarding stylists. For many years, management personally apologized on many 1-star reviews. Since last year or so, dissatisfied customers now get called "keyboard warriors" and publicly mocked from the same management—sometimes right after getting apologetic voicemails. The irony of "keyboard warrior" as an insult while literally *typing* a response apparently doesn't click? Sign of the times. It's just easier to dismiss criticism than address it, I guess. Maybe management wants customers to deliver feedback in person instead? Based on these responses, I'm sure that would go great! "I believe in serving all who come through our door" doesn't mean much when the next review response is "you're never welcome back" to a COMPLAINT?

Negative experience: First off, Ashley is amazing. She’s the only reason I’ve kept coming back as long as I have. She’s talented, consistent, and actually cares about her clients. If this review were just for her, it would be an easy five stars. Unfortunately, the shop itself has gone downhill fast under the new ownership. I’ve been coming here for years and miss the days when Mike ran the front, the place had energy, regulars, and good vibes. Now? It’s empty, tense, and awkward. Let’s talk about the price hikes. Sure, everyone’s dealing with inflation, but nearly doubling prices in under two years? That’s a bold move for a place that’s now half as busy. The “rebooking discount” feels like a band-aid on a bullet wound. Poor execution. It's the least of my concerns though. It's the cameras. Look, I understand wanting security, but cameras directly over the chairs? That’s not security, that’s surveillance. It’s creepy. Nobody’s trying to star in your barbershop OF. I’ll be back in a couple of weeks to see if things have improved, and gladly adjust my review, but unless those inappropriately placed cameras come down and the vibe improves, I’ll be finding a new spot, hopefully one that values both its customers and its employees. Hey Adam, Appreciate you taking the time to respond, but let’s clear a few things up. 1. Price Hikes: You’re technically correct about the timeline, but you’re missing the point. I said nearly doubling in under two years because, as a longtime client, I’ve watched the price jump multiple times in a short window since you took over. The point wasn't so much the increase, but there was about a year period in there where it was always a surprise at the register. Whether it’s $37 to $50 over five years or multiple bumps recently, the impact on customers feels the same, especially when the overall experience and atmosphere have declined. 2. Cameras: You can dress it up however you’d like, but cameras pointed directly over the chairs cross a line. Cleaning crew security doesn’t explain that placement, and most clients would agree it feels invasive. There are ways to protect employee belongings without recording every haircut. 3. Tone: Calling a loyal 10-year customer a “keyboard warrior” is a bold move. Publicly dismissing feedback instead of taking it constructively says a lot about how criticism is handled. You could have acknowledged the concern, explained your reasoning professionally, and maybe even invited me to talk privately, instead, you chose condescension. I made a a point to say I'd be happy to change my review because I'd rather not leave a one star review. This was me reaching out to you directly. I’ve supported this shop for a decade and want to see it thrive, but respect works both ways. Hopefully this serves as something to reflect on. If "monitoring the cleaning crew" is more important than respecting your clients and staff, then I hope it pays off.
