Negative experience: Asked for a cleanup on the sides, ended up with a buzz cut. Every time I tried to explain how I wanted my haircut I was told I was wrong, been there a couple times will never be coming back. Out of respect for the barber I will not mention his name, but whenever a client ask you for something don’t just do your own thing.

Negative experience: I went once and it was great. I made an appointment 3 weeks later and the cancelled on me right before my appointment. No problem. Reschedule it to the following week. This morning, they text me and cancel again. I'm over this place. Doing something right once isn't great customer experience!

Fantastic experience: This was a great experience. My barber of over 10 years recently passed away, and I’ve spent the last year looking for another one. The shop was extremely clean and had a very chill atmosphere. Amy Introduced herself to me when I walked in and was very prompt getting me in Her chair. She gave me a great haircut and the cleanest straight razor shave I’ve had in years. A little pricier than most places, but when somebody’s gonna put a razor to your neck, money should not be an issue. I will most definitely be back and am happy to have found a new barbershop.

Negative experience: Review for Black Orchids – Disappointing Experience on Thursday for the first time I’ve never had such a bad haircut experience until my visit to Black Orchids this past Thursday. Apparently, there’s a new barber at this location, and while I understand everyone has to start somewhere, this felt more like a training session than a proper appointment. From the start, I had to repeat myself multiple times—even after showing a clear reference photo. He seemed extremely nervous and lacked confidence. What really alarmed me was that he didn’t even change the blade before shaving me. I had to stop and ask if he’d swapped it out, which he hadn’t. That’s not just careless—it’s unsanitary and borderline unsafe. I was close to getting cut because the blade was clearly worn out. Things got worse when Joey, thankfully, stepped in to guide him. Joey demonstrated how to do one side of the fade and had to go tend to his own client, expecting the new guy to mirror it on the other side. The result? One clean side, and the other looking completely off. I’m literally walking around with a half-done fade. It’s embarrassing. Lesson learned: know your barber and book in advance. Never give in to last-minute fills if your regular isn’t available. This experience shouldn’t happen at a professional barbershop. Though the owner has replied and acknowledged, I haven’t received any sort of communication from their end yet as of May 4th 2025 Response to the owners reply: I’ve just now seen the response from the owner, so I’d like to clarify a few things publicly—especially since this was my first visit to Black Orchids at this location and an experience I genuinely did not expect from a barbershop with a solid reputation. To be clear, I did not receive any voicemail, nor do I recall any missed calls that day. If your team did reach out at 4:15 PM as claimed, a simple voicemail or follow-up message would’ve gone a long way. I wasn’t ignoring any outreach—I just didn’t get it. Let me address the main concerns I had: 1. The Blade – I stand by what I experienced. The barber did not change the blade before shaving me. This isn’t about arguing; it’s about safety. I had to stop the service to ask whether the blade was fresh, and the answer was no. That’s not a misunderstanding—that’s a hygiene risk. You’re welcome to review your cameras if you feel otherwise, but please understand that from a client’s perspective, this was a serious red flag. 2. Uneven Cut – I left with a noticeably uneven fade. Joey, who I respect immensely, stepped in to guide Marcus, and it showed—because the side he handled looked great. The other side, however, was off and very clearly done by someone still learning. That’s not my job to correct or excuse. Joey was helpful, yes, but that doesn’t undo the final outcome I walked out with. 3. Intent of My Review – This isn’t about getting a refund or free product. I’ve consistently tipped well because I value the craft and the people behind it. I chose Black Orchids and paid a premium because I expect premium service. My intent is simply to alert future customers: know your barber and book ahead with someone you trust. Walk-ins can be a gamble—one I unfortunately lost this time. Lastly, I appreciate the acknowledgment, but the tone of the response from ownership felt more defensive than empathetic. As a paying customer voicing a genuine concern, I would’ve appreciated more understanding instead of being removed from the system. No hard feelings—just a lesson learned. I hope this feedback helps improve the experience for future walk-ins. — Suraj

Fantastic experience: I booked an appointment with this barber shop to see if they could give my hairstyle the missing touch it needed. I loved how they allow you to send reference photos so that the barbers have an idea of what they are going to work with. This shop is located in a very calm and beautiful area, easy access and parking. Walked in and was immediately greeted and welcomed. Marcus was very professional, explained his methods, and overall was a really great guy to hold a conversation with. Haircut came out better than I had expected and couldn’t be happier. Definitely will be back :))

Fantastic experience: We absolutely love Cody. He has been cutting Grayson’s hair for a while now and does so well with him. Grayson can be ~a little~ sensitive (this may be an understatement, lol) with haircuts and Cody nails it every time. He keeps the mood light and Grayson looks forward to seeing him. We appreciate it more than we can explain!!! We’ve also been to see Noah in between cuts with Cody, who was equally fantastic. We’ll never go anywhere else. I checked the $40-$50 box because tipping well on services is important and everyone should do it )

Fantastic experience: The broad ripple location never disappoints. Today I had a different person named Marcus, and he did amazingly. These guys just try to do a good job and it shows. Like, even if I didn’t know what I exactly want, they just get it to where I feel confident walking out. I dreaded haircuts before finding this place because I was nervous of a bad one. Now, It’s just unfortunate that this place is far from my home, but it’s still worth it. One of the only places worth giving a review for cause their service is that good… and I’m normally a critical guy so… let that sink in.

Positive experience: Not a bad haircut but it was not what I asked for. Did not fade hair at all didn’t see any of the work until the end. Wasn’t asked about any preferences during the haircut. Only put styling product on one side of my hair? Again not a bad haircut but it’s not a fade or anything near what I asked for that’s why I still paid. I’m glad Amy liked the work she did and got some pictures out of it but she didn’t give me the haircut I wanted. I’ve been getting fades for 7 years and can honestly say there was no fade done to my hair. In the future please specify on your website who can cannot do certain haircuts.
