Negative experience: Been here twice, both times got a dude that didn’t speak much English and the most recent time he started on a completely different haircut to what I asked for then took clippers to my facial hair and moustache without asking and before I could say anything so I got up, left, and went somewhere else.

Negative experience: They cut it way too short when I said just above my eyebrows they got my fringe not straight at all, did even get the cut I asked for. And pretty much put a maccas logo on the back of my hair

Negative experience: Poor experience. I clearly told the stylist what cut and style I wanted, and he agreed, but then did the opposite. He only started fixing it when I told him it wasn't what we discussed. Now I’m left with a hairstyle I don’t even like. Overrated shop, they prioritise their own preferences over listening to clients.

Negative experience: Tried to communicate what i wanted but ended up with something Else. Cant do anything now with my hair and a year worth of growth basically gone. Wouldnt reccommend to be honest. Maybe you can get Lucky with someone from the Gang who is more skillfull than i did.

Negative experience: Partner spefically chose this place as they provided the "hot shave" booking online but turns out they don't even offer this service. Trainee only informed my partner in the middle of his haircut and not before so he wasn't aware of this until it was to late. It should be taken off your booking website or atleast have the option to choose a barber who is trained and competent at doing it to avoid the fuss once there. It was not a pleasant experience and better customer service is needed. Having a trainee barber running around with a blade randomly would make any customer nervous. No blood was drawn thankfully. Just as a reminder, some people take time off work to have an enjoyable hair cut experience and this was not it. Unfortuantely, won't be a returning customer. Do better.

We were looking for somewhere that could provide awesome cuts and beard trims as well as treating our son (now 5) as a customer in his own right - talking to him, listening and putting him at ease. We found all of this and more at Shelby's. Sora is fantastic at what he does - always listening and taking on-board the little changes I might like to make to my beard shape or length each time. He treats my son so well and always makes it an exciting and enjoyable visit for him. Would highly recommend.

Have been getting my hair cut here since opening up back in 2015. Sora is a champ, and throws suggestions while you are in the chair for new looks or approaches to the way you like you hair cut. Great chat and solid yarns. I couldn't recommend them enough!

Fantastic experience: Sora's zero fades are excellent. As anyone who gets this cut knows - there is a fine line between a good VS bad fade. Sora nails it every time. Shelby's booking system is also great. Easy to lock in your next cut for a time that's convenient and also means no wait time.

Fantastic experience: I've been coming to Shelby's since I moved to New Plymouth and I go every 4 weeks to get my cut. The online booking system makes it real easy to book and amend appointments. The shop itself has style and a good vibe. Calvin and the crew are friendly and talented barbers. I've been going to Sora for the past few months and the man always makes my hair look legit. I usually go for a skin fade but I trust Sora to try new things sometimes too. Good banter with the boys when I'm there too. Just like a barbershop should be!

I see my main man Sora every month and he always takes the time to see how the last cut went, check how it has grown out, and then discuss anything different that may want to be done. He also puts great emphasis on giving a cut that is right for your head shape, and not just whatever is trending (this was a real eye opener!). Highest props and recommendations.

Fantastic experience: I always go to see Sora, great hair cuts, awesome chats, chill vibes. The last time I went I didn’t know what I wanted but he has gotten to know me well and he created a mint cut that suits my face shape well. Online appointments are actually really convenient!

He gave me great advice regarding the style that would suit my head shape as well as what would work best for my hair type. His recommendations for what products I use have made and ACTUAL difference to how my hair looks and feels.
