Fantastic experience: I’ve been a loyal customer of Dukes for several years. They’re a friendly, no-frills barber who consistently do good cuts for a good price. I’ve always done walk in appointments and rarely had to wait longer than 15 minutes, if I’m not able to go straight into the chair. The fact they’ve had the same excellent team for years also shows that it’s a business that cares for and looks after its staff. With other barbers you’ll be lucky to have the same person there to cut your hair on a return visit. I live overseas now, but whenever I’m back in Wellington I always make an appointment at Dukes!

Positive experience: Haircut 3.5/5 Beard trim 3/5 Not the greatest cut at the price I was charged - $73. Felt rushed and the final result was not really impressive at all. Asked for beard maintenance but ended up taking a whole lot more than I expected. My communication and requests were clear but the execution of the barber was subpar. Below the price I paid thats for sure. Customer service was fine. If you are someone with a longer beard- I suggest you go elsewhere.

Fantastic experience: A longstanding barbershop with great and personable staff. I've been going regularly to Dukes for the last 10 years and haven't felt the need to switch to another. They offer a wide range of cuts from basic trimmer cuts through to styles scissor cuts. I get the styled cut with fades and undercuts - haven't had a disappointing experience.

Fantastic experience: My husband and I popped into Duke's whilst staying in Wellington- we've been travelling for a few months, and were both desperately in need of a haircut! We were luckily able to be seen at the same time, and were both absolutely thrilled with the results. My husband has long hair and it can be tricky to find a good barber, but the person who saw him was a natural and knew exactly what to do. Christian who cut my hair did such a beautiful job- he really listened to what I wanted and gave me some great advice, the whole time taking great care and attention to detail. The cuts were first class and really amazing value for money. Would highly recommend!

Negative experience: Be sure to check for the rates. I did the mistake of not asking beforehand and was punished for it. I was charged $49 for what I believe was a less than 15 mins quick clipper cut. That’s the highest I’ve ever paid, living here for 8 years.

It doesn’t matter who’s chair you sit in, you know you’re getting a good cut. All the barbers are high quality and just genuinely nice folk also. Wouldn’t bother with any other place in the city and highly recommend Dukes! Oh, they also reward loyal customers with a free haircut on your 10th visit.

He was excellent, did a fantastic job of listening to our needs & providing excellent cuts, but perhaps even more importantly he was incredibly thoughtful towards my son and his needs after a previous bad experience elsewhere. Negative experience: I visited for the first time. The barber seemed to spend a long time with the clippers on the back of my head and didn't hold a mirror up at the end......I know why now. Won't be visiting again. $40 for a bad cut. I didn't get the barbers name but there was only 2 of them. I arrived around 11:05am Friday.
