Fantastic experience: After moving to Dunedin from the US, my beard was getting scruffy and unkempt looking and my normally clean shaved head was stubbly. I made an appointment for a beard trim and head shave. James was amazing and did a great job. Not only was he very skilled at his craft, but he was a great person and very welcoming. For as long as I am living in Dunedin, I will be heading to Blokes, Specifically to James, for my beard care

Negative experience: Can't recommend going here for anything but short back and sides. This place used to be my go-to but after so many butchered medium-length cuts at a fairly high price I can't justify it. Expect missed side burns, stray long-bits, and to not get what you ask for.

Negative experience: My husband has just come home with a very short crew cut, looks like he's joined the army. Absolutely hideous. He has beautiful curls to work with! Gone. So short. Then he tells me this hideous crew cut cost $57!! I could have done this cut for free at home! What's worse is he paid for the 45 minute hair cut and was only in for 20 mins maximum. The price would be no biggie if his hair was actually styled and care put into the cut. He suggested he could go back and ask them to fix it. I said absolutely not since they have just butched it!! Stay away from this place they don't know how to style hair. How embarrassing

Fantastic experience: Good coffee. And had 2 haircuts here. Both were absolutely great and done by jaymz who I would highly recommend and is extremely knowledgeable and friendly.

Negative experience: The guy who did my cut hair not only did a very bad job of my hair cut. But he was to busy trying to make conversation then cutting my hair.

Negative experience: Cannot comment on the skills of their cuts as we had 2 cancellations, but I can say that their customer service is very poor. For the 1st cancellation, we were given 2 days notice which was fair but was done via email. I didnt get contacted further even after a couple of days had passed, so I called back to make a new booking. I'd have expected a call back to see if they could fit me in at the next available appointment. Cancellations happen - it's understandable, but they did not deal with it well. I made a second booking and thought to give it another go. This time, I got a reminder text 24 h before the appointment, so I thought it was happening. However, they sent an email around 6.30pm that evening to cancel for the appointment at noon the following day. I did not see this until it was too late, so I showed up to a closed store, and was very surprised. The very least they could have done would have been to call to inform me, especially at such late notice. I am disappointed with their customer service and as such would not be recommending them even if they were to be good at their cuts.

Fantastic experience: Popped in and seen Sam last minute before job interview. Hair was an overgrown mess. Had a rough idea of what I wanted but let Sam just go with the flow. Amazing job. Super stoked with the result. Cool to chat with too. Highly recommend Sam. Cheers buddy!!

Fantastic experience: We visited Bloke this morning for haircuts for my two sons (4 and 7). Firstly so grateful they were able to fit us in after a last minute decision and phone call yesterday afternoon. We were absolutely blown by the amazing experience and service provided by Xzava and Rikki. They were incredible with the boys, they are exceptionally talented barbers and the boys cuts are the best they have ever had. 10/10 recommend Bloke as it lives up to it’s great reputation and the onsite coffee shop is a fabulous bonus for those of us having to wait. Thanks again!

Fantastic experience: I love the interior of the building but remember to mind your step when entering because you have the stairs as you open the door! They also have an awesome waiting place with sofas and a cafe! The haircut is 10/10, I'm definitely coming back here!

Negative experience: Used to be good service, unfortunately not anymore. They canceled my son's booking twice in one week. Rescheduled only to have that booking canceled again just hours before. School due back tomorrow and told they can't fit him in, very poor customer service. Going elsewhere. Shame really used to be great.

Negative experience: Went in today with my partner, he wanted to have his beard trimmed. I returned with an unhappy partner who didn't like the trim at all. Firstly, the barber cut the beard way short (contrary to the stated wishes and contrary to being asked to take away little to start with and cut more if needed) and beyond that, uneven. It seems like the guy didn't have much clue of facial geometry - cut short at the front of the chin, and left it long at the fold of the chin and throat (???). He seemed young and not properly trained. My partner left with the worst beard trim I've ever seen on him, that leaves his face much rounder. Plus side: nice coffee. Summary: Bad experience, wouldn't recommend

Fantastic experience: The boss cut my hair. Great lady who I enjoyed chatting to. Very friendly and professional staff. Great service and coffee on tap. Best to book in advance as the secret is out. Loads of people wanting to do a walk-in cut even at 9 am Saturday. If I lived local I would not look anywhere else. If you are local make it your regular barber shop. They also sell great hair product with advice on how to use. The only improvement that could be made would be if they also sold some old style straight razors. But that's just because I am looking for one. 10/10.
