Negative experience: One of the barbers took a chunk out of the front of my hair, and told me it was my receding hair line. At least they didn’t charge me for it.

Negative experience: Not impressed about the haircut. The first time was good but this time the barber Looked at a photo I showed and just did what he felt like. Not going there again. He seemed like he’s in a rush, like he wanted to just get it over with and go home. I went home and used scissors and fixed it.

Fantastic experience: Great service, barber did a mean as job

Negative experience: Booked a skin fade and wet shave. Started a full half hour after my booked time slot. Hair cut - ok. But cooked my hairline at the rear. Wet shave changed to a beard trim - guy spent less than 30 seconds on it and I had to even it out at home myself. Sprayed down with unknown fragrance without asking me (it was gross). At least the hot towel was nice ? Pretty expensive for a disappointing experience.

Negative experience: Basic hair cut, took 15 mins and charged $40! Covered me in skin cream and a strong smelling spray. Weird experience, not for me sorry.

Fantastic experience: Best haircut my sons had all year

Negative experience: Got a haircut here last week. I had to ask the barber to fix it halfway through, because there were just... chunks of hair sticking out to one side. "You can just comb them over." Uh, no thanks. Even when he tried to fix it, it was bad. He seemed in a rush, like he wanted to just get it over with and go home. I went home and used scissors and a mirror, and I fixed it in 2 minutes. Not impressed, will not be returning. Edit: In response to the owner saying "Come back and we'll fix it": No. First of all, I fixed it myself. Second, I can't trust you not to make it worse. Terrible barbers.

Fantastic experience: We’ve been going to Anchor Barbershop for years (even before they became Anchor Barbershop). Tam and the rest of the crew provide a clean and professional cut everytime. They’re amazing with tamariki and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Highly recommend booking in with them.

Negative experience: First time I went here I was happy with the haircut have been back twice since and both times have been very underwhelming. Asked what I wanted then just did what he felt like, had to go elsewhere to get fixed up

Negative experience: After reading great reviews about child haircuts, I went in with high expectations and I was disappointed. When I walked in and asked for my 14 month olds hair to be cut, when a guy was selected his face was saying "why me?" and his colleagues laughed at him. He made no effort to be friendly towards my son, seemed like he was rushing to get it over with. Then when he was trimming around his ears, he clipped him on both ears. My son was moving around at the time, which wouldn't have made his job easier, I understand that, but to have no apology for doing so I found to be rude.

Negative experience: Booked in for a 45min skin fade and beard trim. Took only 29min. Was rushed. Asked for a taper fade. Did not even get that. Was charged $80 for the who ordeal.

Fantastic experience: I would give 10 stars if I could. Best barber shop in town and Tam is amazing. A true master of his craft. Edit: just been to see Tam and the team again and the service just gets better and better! If you have kids there is no better barber in town! For men, get a hot towel shave and a cut and facial! You leave feeling like a new man. Worth every penny and then some. Cant recommend more highly!

Fantastic experience: Had my sons first hair cut done there today , my sons 18 and a half months old , barber was patient with my son moving around as he was unsure on what was going on , gave my son a lolly pop to distract him , very happy with my sons hair and did it with 3 hours notice thank you so much definitely will be back

Fantastic experience: Took my almost 2 year in for his first haircut. Had an absolute awesome experience with Tam. He made my son feel at ease, which also helped me. Will definitely be back for the next haircut!

Negative experience: This is based on today as I had to pop out, while my son was on the seat. I specifically asked for a zero fade and my son asked for the same cut he had the last time. Photos were taken by the Barber at the previous visit to.This time around, sorry to say, but definitely not what we asked for.

Negative experience: Boyfriend came for a drop in, called ahead of time to check the wait time. The man answering the phone was great, to the point, polite and told us what we needed to know. Boyfriend was not happy with the barber. He did not speak to him the entire time, did not listen to what kind of haircut he really wanted, put strange gel and perfumes on him that he did not consent to nor liked, including on his face that left him sticky as the man did not wash it/clean it off, and left feeling very upset with his hair. Atmosphere was alright, but haircut left much to be desired.

Fantastic experience: My son absolutely loved his first proper haircut (4 years old) so amazing at what they do and it is our new local even tho we live in Otaki, the trip is worth it! Very very happy!

Negative experience: Went in earlier today as my usual place was booked and asked for a mid blowout taper, no hair on the top to be cut and to bring my fringe to my eyebrows. The guy I got said "sweet bro" and started cutting. During the cut I knew something was off but I wasn't facing the mirror do couldn't see. Several of the staff members were laughing in my direction and I didn't understand why. He cut about 50% of my hair off and gave me a high fade which is well above my ear. Sloppy job and will not be returning.

Negative experience: Booked a kids haircut for my 3yr old son on Wed 23 Apr. The bro who cut my sons hair (didn’t get his name) was a nice enough dude, however, it seemed evident he hadn’t cut much kids hair, or if any. Reason being my son wasn’t having a bar of it (fair enough), but the barber having grasped the top of my kids head aggressively wasn’t making it any easier. There was no due diligence taken in adapting to the situation, which in turn made it worse for my boys experience. As a parent we acknowledge things won’t always go to plan, and getting a haircut can be one of them. But for the bro, in future, it might pay to get some exposure to cutting toddlers hair. The bro also charged me $35 for a kids haircut, despite being advertised $30 online. This only occurred to me when I revisited to try and get the bro’s name. My bad for not paying attention. All in all, not a good experience for my son. We did however get his haircut previously from one of the other barbers, Rico, in which he was very competent, aware and respectful . We would recommend getting a haircut from Rico as opposed to old mate.

Positive experience: Hey I’m extremely happy with my son’s haircut that Josiah did. He is just great and awesome ! Although I really need to mention something that troubles my mind on what I saw today.. Young staff member vaping in store in front of children and also me (a pregnant woman) That ruined my experience. I don’t like my child around that at all. It’s so unprofessional and I’m disappointed in this lazy immature behaviour. I’m unsure why on earth you think this is ok to do in front of customers. Vaping is a form of smoking, it’s filthy and should be outdoors at all times. No attempt at even hiding, just out in the open for everybody to see. (It’s a shame the owner is now lying about the male staff member that I witnessed cutting a clients hair, actually being a customer himself). I don’t appreciate dishonesty, so disappointing. But anyway Thank you so much Josiah, your service is amazing once again.

Fantastic experience: My son had his first haircut at Anchor barber shop today . My son was stressed out at some stages during the haircut and the workers worked well with him and went out of their way to try their best to make it a fun and good experience for him . My son started to warm up and was even given a phone to watch Elmo on and it was a good distraction for those moments where he got stressed . They are wonderful friendly people and I will be bringing my son back for his next haircut .

Negative experience: My husband went on Sunday to get a haircut. The barber was chewing gum the whole haircut and so loudly which was disgusting having that in your ear the whole time. At the end of the barber sprayed about 6 sprays of what we don’t actually know what it was my husband wasn’t asked if he wanted that or even explained to what it was. once he got in the car it was such a strong smell our kids were coughing and we had to drive home with the windows down. Once we got home my husband when to have a shower and his neck and chest had broken out in an allergic reaction to this spray. Also their eftpos was down but they did not mention this before starting to cut my husbands hair they were only accepting cash and told my husband to got to the plaza to get cash out. They did have signs up but not in obvious places. I luckily had cash on me we will not be going back it was a good haircut but not very professional service

Positive experience: I was searching for a good barber that will know how to deal with my hair and would suit my face shape. Of course I have use google and Anchor barber shop in Palmerston North got good rating reviews and trusted my instinct to go with this one. Booking was easy as I have done a same day booking. I booked in for Tam as I have seen many people gave good feedback. I went to the shop and was excited to get my hair done but at the same time was anxious as I’m very particular with my hair. I was called in for the haircut and I really thought that Tam will do my haircut instead it was another barber who did my hair. They’ve asked me what would I like and showed photos. Just really would like to have a good haircut that would suit my face shape. I was hoping that Tam would cut my hair but he gave instructions to the Barber. I like my cut tbh but probably would love it if the barber I have booked in did my hair as I have clearly stated for Tam to do it in the booking system. Hence, the three star rating. Not sure though if I’m gonna come back.

Negative experience: Beyond disappointed. My partner had been growing his hair out for months so that he could have a specific hairstyle. After seeing all the glowing reviews of this place we thought they would do a good job. He showed the barber his reference photos, and he said he could do it. Instead, he cut it way too short, squared off the front, and for some weird reason shaved off his widows peak. After the barber made the first cut, my partner said it was too short, but he still cut it shorter. In the end, my partner said it was so awful, and beyond fixable, that he just asked the barber to shave it all off. Now he has to completely start again and grow his hair back out. The real kicker is that he was still charged $40 for it, which I really don't think he should have had to pay.

Positive experience: Very impressed with my 10 year olds cut. However when I booked online Saturday night the price was $30 and this morning the lady told me $30 before he started but I was charged $40. There was also no eftpos payments so I had to leave to take out cash from money machine.

Negative experience: Went in on a Sunday as I wasn’t able to book in with my regular barber so booked in with these guys. It seems like there’s no point booking, as when I arrived they had no record of a booking. Didn’t get seen by the person I booked with; instead, I got someone completely different to do my haircut. Ended up getting a very different cut to what I was asking for, though it seemed like the barber I got was having a hard time understanding what it was I was asking for, as I don’t think he understood English very well. Eftpos was down for maintenance, and they didn’t have the account details on hand for a bank transfer, so I had to go get cash out from an ATM and come back to pay. Will be going back to my regular barber, overall pretty dissatisfied.

Negative experience: These guys are usually good, but went to the them again and my barber couldn’t even speak English that well and didn’t line up correctly and 30 mins after my cut it wasn’t linned up how I asked. The barber I had was lazy didn’t pay attention to detail and rushed. Most likely not going there again.

Fantastic experience: The owner cut my husband’s hair. He went above and beyond to provide a professional and memorable service. Our experience was.. welcoming, Sharp skills, Listens to clients needs prior to cut, Very Clean Establishment ! Sterile equipment, disinfects between clients. Provides excellent service. 5 Stars!

Fantastic experience: Took my toddler there for a cut yesterday and the man who did his cut was absolutely amazing with him! Made my boy feel at ease (he even sat by himself, he's only 20months old) made sure he felt comfortable with him and did An amazing cut!! (May have been slightly to short on the back) however this wouldn't effect us going back as the service was 10/10!!!

Positive experience: I heard a lot of good things about this place so I decided to get a haircut here. The fade was decent and the trim on the top was average. The line up was terrible. Both of my sides weren’t even and my hairline was a bit off too. The lineup is probably the second most important aspect of a hairline other than the fade. Customer service is about creating loyalty in Order to have a stream of customers coming back consistently. In this case I will not be returning, and I would not recommend this barber to those who are looking for a good overall haircut experience.

Fantastic experience: I had wet cupping done today and I feel AMAZING. The treatment wasn't painful at all, but was super relaxing. Tam is a great therapist, he explained the treatment process and it's many health benefits before hand and answered all my questions. I can't wait for my next treatment. I highly recommend this.

Fantastic experience: Very high quality and welcoming service from the team. They are great with small children also. They are very particular to detail which I like as most barbers struggle to cut my son's hair with a double crown. They always make me and my daughters feel welcomed when we come in to get my sons cut done. He loves getting designs cut into his hair and they always deliver.

Fantastic experience: Tamam and the team is really a good bunch! Worth booking him in advance, once seated in the chair you get top class treatment, very good haircut, massage, waxing and hot towel on your face. Pretty perfect and accurate shave, you walk out feeling like a million bucks!
