Gents Barber Club

Fantastic experience: On my way back to NYC and was crestfallen I couldn’t find a quality men’s cutter. Even went to Barrow, a supposedly high end stylist in SF and they were AWFUL and got the most boring cut ever. The cut is a short faux mullet, Beckham/Neymar inspired… a more difficult and thoughtful design that usually costs a lot and few can do correctly. Mely crushed it. Took her time and was extremely patient with the process of getting it done right. When I am back, I’ll return 100%!!!!

Negative experience: The worst haircut in my entire life. I’ve spent $60 to make sure my cut is cool. The girl who made me a cut didn’t even dried my hair. It’s a joke. I don’t normally write any reviews but it’s so bad I can’t even resist

Fantastic experience: I went to the barbershop yesterday and was greeted by Bryan, It was my first time at the barbershop and I had the best experience there. Bryan's service was incredible at all times, and his image reflects cutting-edge style and a high sense of professionalism. Without a doubt, this will be my favorite barbershop from now on. I highly recommend Bryan's service and attitude; he's an excellent barber with a lot of experience in his work.

Negative experience: I’ve been here about 5–6 times now, mostly because it’s super close to my house, and I kept trying to give them another chance — but I’m done. The service is consistently poor, and not once have they actually given me the cut I asked for, no matter who I went to. It feels rushed every time, and for the price they charge, it’s just not worth it. Definitely overpriced for the quality and attention to detail you get. Save your time and money and go somewhere else.

Fantastic experience: Had a great experience at this place. I was able to fix my haircut after a terrible haircut I had at some other place. Paola was super helpful and she was able to fix it in an amazing manner. Highly recommend the place. I'll recommend parking about 2 blocks away and walking as there is a dearth of parking spots near the place.

Negative experience: Very disappointing performance. I booked a haircut with Parker Catalano, and so little was done that I had to book another appointment the next day at Gents’ San Jose location…just to get my hair cut and look somewhat presentable.

Negative experience: I went in and they didn’t tell me the price at first. I asked for a haircut, but since I don’t speak much English, communication was already difficult. The barber, Viet, seemed to be rushing to finish my haircut. I even showed him several pictures, but he didn’t seem to understand me or even look carefully at them. In the end, he charged me $48.72. He didn’t say goodbye and even laughed as I was leaving after paying. The haircut was unfinished, and I was very unhappy with the result — my hair is now impossible to style. I don’t know if there are better barbers in this place, but Viet was very unprofessiona After that call me manager Alan offering refund… never comes!!

Negative experience: Been coming here since moving to the neighborhood in 2020. Was 5 star (thanks to Paula and Keri who both recently left) until the past month. I had an appointment a month ago and was kept waiting 45 minutes because the barber who checked me in didn’t realize I was his appointment. It took me asking twice why there was such a delay before someone had to stop the dude from leaving for lunch. Then today I had a confirmed 11 am appointment, showed up on time, and the shop was closed, security gate pulled, lights out. No response to my voicemail. Their text messaging system promised a callback and nothing, nada, zippo. Not sure what’s going on with this place but time to find a shop that cares for its customers. They lost a customer of 5 years. Good luck if you use this place.

Fantastic experience: As many people know if you follow me I travel for business often so when I need a haircut and more importantly mustach and beard trim I try to find a place in a city I'm at for the best service and best outcome. This time while in San Francisco I chose the Gents Barber Club and I'll admit it was a great experience. The shave from AJ was well done and he communicated and I did the same to get a great outcome. Highly recommended if you're in the area and need a professional well done haircut. Check it Gents and ask for AJ!

He’s got great attention to detail, takes his time to get everything just right, and always makes the experience enjoyable with good conversation. I am now concerned the bars and stores around me are going to start asking for my ID again because I look 10 years younger (which I appreciate). P.S. Alex also did the best taper on the back of my head that I’ve ever had. I have annoying cowlicks back there that grow into an annoying shape. He spent so much time ensuring this cut would last for a while. Love it.

Fantastic experience: Gents Barber Club was a great find! Booking last min the night before, I wasn't fully in the know of what was to come. I had visited the San Jose location and enjoyed it, so I assumed the OG would be similar. Right off the bat, I was greeted with hellos and welcomes, and the decor/vibes were spot on. I was offered a drink pretty soon after my arrival and relaxed on the couch before my apt. I found parking pretty easily and was happy with the location. Keri was exceptional and provided great service in fixing a bad cut I came in with. She was kind and communicative. I also had the add-on towel service, and that was a great treat before a intense week ahead. Great cut, conversation, communication, and service - recommended!

The haircut turned out even better than I imagined—it’s honestly the best one I’ve had in years. The whole experience was relaxed, and Lucas made me feel totally at ease. If you’re looking for someone who’s talented, professional, and truly cares about their clients, Lucas is the one.

Negative experience: My haircut was good, though without any recommendations from the barber. If you give monkey a trimer, it can do a fade too. An attitude is not words you say. Body language shows a lot. Some of the barbers there need to learn it.

Fantastic experience: A relaxing, pleasant shop. I have gone to Luis for a cut and shave for a few years now. I have never gotten a better shave! I am disabled and can't shave myself. There is a joke sign that says they do tooth extraction. Probably barbers once did. If I needed that, I would trust Luis for the job. Gentle, expertly precise. All the other barbers seem really great too. Just Always a great experience.

Negative experience: I would not recommend booking Paula for a haircut. I chose her for my wedding cut based on her name in a few reviews and seeing the overall 4.9 stars for the shop, but unfortunately, I was disappointed by both the cut and the overall experience. Despite being the first through the door for the day, I was the last to be seated for the morning appointments, and while every other barber greeted me warmly and congratulated me on my big day, Paula barely acknowledged me. She lacked communication and customer service skills, and it felt like she didn’t want to be there. The haircut itself was rushed, with uneven fading, and she even clipped my ear slightly. It truly felt like a lesser skilled barber. For the $90-$100 price point, I expected much more in terms of skill and service, but the cut felt more like a $30-$35 job. Keep in mind I consistently book high end hair cuts so I know what to expect from a $100 cut. She didn’t include a wash, which was supposed to be part of the package, nor did she use a blade to frame the front which should be standard for a cut of this price point. The only part she did well was my beard, likely because she had to slow down for that. Overall, I won’t be returning, nor will I recommend this shop or Paula. However, the other barbers seemed much more engaged and might provide a better experience if you decide to book here. Unless you want a silent puppet to cut your hair.

Fantastic experience: Paula has been my barber a few times over the years and has blessed me each time. They pay close attention to detail and offer tips/suggestions on the styling. These are the most luxurious haircuts I’ve ever received, followed up with shampoo and a hot towel. I’m always in awe afterwards, wondering how other barber shops compete with this. Their apprentice “Kary” also took time to cut my hair and the experience was just as grand. I would recommend checking out this spot if you’re looking for a trim in the Mission.

Fantastic experience: Skeez is the best barber I’ve found in SF, and the rate is not crazy for in SF. You get a full 30 minutes, it includes a complimentary drink, and a hot foam shave around the neck and ears. Best part is at the end you get a nice smelling hot steamed towel on your face- as someone who has never gone to spas or pampered themselves, this is special and really adds to the experience. Negative experience: First time here. After explaining the trim I wanted and saying “too short is my nightmare,” the master barber I booked got started. I thought we were on the same page until he turned my chair around so I could see the back in the mirror. Definitely my nightmare as my hair is the shortest it’s ever been. I was assured by the barber that I wouldn’t lose too much length, and yet here I am. He could have salvaged things *slightly* by debulking my longer hair on top, which he offered to do, but I started the appointment saying only sides and back. I couldn’t justify going against an explicit request to fix the rest of the cut which already had gone against my explicit requests. I figured I should just stop the bleeding as I wasn’t willing to risk it going any more wrong. The back of my head looks pretty ridiculous. One star for him being kind and considerate and the other because he declined a tip as he knew I was unhappy with the result.

Fantastic experience: I’ve made my first appointment here with no expectations, just was looking for a haircut because it was way too long since the last one I had. I’ve tried so many places in the city but nothing really worked, so I kept searching. Well, I am definitely coming back and soon! Dorothy helped me get from a wild overgrown bush to looking sharp. Cherry on top was guiding me through how to maintain the hair, products and styling techniques.

Fantastic experience: I cannot say enough great things about my experience at Gents! When you walk in you’re offered a drink, which they have different whiskeys and rums on rotation. I had Dorothy-Anne, who was so personable and you can tell has such a passion for her craft. I mentioned what I normally get for a haircut and she executed to a T and even offered a recommended style change which I hadn’t considered and I loved it! She wrapped it up with a facial and a straight shave which had my face feeling 5 years younger! I cannot recommend her and Gents enough!

And let me tell you, it was one hell of an experience, especially with my guy Luis in charge. As soon as I walked in, I was hit with the sweet smell of leather, sandalwood, and maybe a hint of whiskey? Speaking of which, Luis offered me a glass of the good stuff before he got started on my haircut and beard trim. And let me tell you, that wasn't the only thing that was smooth about this experience. Luis had some serious skills with those scissors and clippers, and he knew exactly what to do with my unruly mop of hair and patchy beard. But it wasn't just the top-notch grooming that impressed me. The whole vibe of the place was chill and welcoming, with great music playing in the background and friendly banter going on between Luis and the other barbers. It was like stepping into a neighborhood bar where everybody knows your name, but with the added bonus of walking out looking like a million bucks. Fantastic experience: I have lived in 3 different neighborhoods in SF but have always made Gents my go-to for haircuts. The atmosphere is warm, friendly, and accommodating. The barbers are all amazing and experts at their craft. Make sure to book an appointment in advance as this place can get pretty busy. I've been seeing Luis most regularly. He always takes the time to listen to what I'm looking for, his recommendations are top notch, and his skill with scissors and a blade are immaculate. Great guy to chat with and get to know. Fantastic experience: Went to Gents with a pal to get a haircut and beard trim. Alain is a master at his craft and I feel (and look, if I do say so myself) like a million bucks. Trim and a whiskey; a great way to fly.

Fantastic experience: At first, looking at the price ($75) was a lot. After getting a cut from Alain, I realized I was already paying the same price including tip and not to mention, I don’t get the hair wash, whisky and hot towel. Plus side, it’s all appointment based so I don’t have to wait like most barbershops where you sit there for an hour sometimes. Parking was easy and right next to the shop. On the other hand, they don’t do walk- ins unless they have space so I recommend booking online. They do require a card on file to book but I guess it makes sense since they have limited space. All in all, good service, good cut and above average price but you get a lot more than most barbershops.

Fantastic experience: I have been here several times now. I have always gotten the royal hangover package because damn it feels good. The service is excellent. They take good care of you here. I like it so much that I brought my friend here, and I plan to bring more in the future.
