Negative experience: I got the worst haircut of my life by a person I can't believe is an actual professional. Manager asked if they could fix it somehow but I just wanted to leave. They took my phone number and said they would call to see how they can fix it. They didn't call. At least they didn't charge me

Positive experience: Rush job for $100+ and ignored instructions. The shop is clean so there’s the 3 stars.

Fantastic experience: The first time I visited this shop, I received a haircut from a woman named Amanda. She took excellent care of me, and I felt the service went above and beyond what I typically experience in that price range. I learned useful tips about hair care, had my hair washed and my scalp massaged, and even received a free product sample—which I later confirmed is well-suited to my hair type. The moist, eucalyptus-infused hot towel on my face was also a nice touch. The haircut itself was excellent, and I appreciated how well it maintained its shape as it grew out over the following weeks.

Negative experience: The People's Barber? Right...if your people are tech bros, hipsters or hills moms bringing their kids in for $$$$ cuts. The stylists/barbers seem fine, but you can get the same cut and support a small locally owned shop for better service and price. I used to treat my kid to an occasional cut here back when Luis used to work here and the prices were better. He was great! He listened, asked questions and just seemed genuine. He was such a light that I was able to see through the dense fog of insufferable hipster pretension that fills this space. I took my kid in a couple days back. An appointment was coldly made. I had to redirect the stylist several times and he almost left my kid with this weird mullet like thing that looked nothing like the pic I showed. Sure, the texture of my kid's hair is different from the pic, but he didn't ask any questions or point out how that could be problematic (and to be real, the cut could have been possible ). Then we opted for a shorter cut. The stylist was responsive and I could tell that he wanted us to be happy. He seemed to rush through and he took 40 minutes from start to finish including the redos. Finally we checked out with an acceptable cut that my kid was happy with. When I go to check out, it turns out that this all comes out to a full price adult haircut! This didn't seem right. Still, I paid and tipped the full amount. When I came home and looked at the website, the full haircut was supposed to come with shampoo/condition, beverage, hot towel and all the usual stuff that everyone else who paid full price get. My kid didn't get no organic juice, and mama wasn't offered any whiskey. What we got was an average kid's cut. I would love for the price to be adjusted so that's what I pay, stylist can keep the full tip amount because I'm not even sure that he knew it wasn't a kid's cut. I called and asked for that, and they offered to give me five freaking dollars. So now, I will rage post this review everywhere and get over it.

Negative experience: Six weeks ago Valerie basically shaved my head. That day she apologize and discounted my haircut, today I decided since I’ve been seeing her for a year I would go back and see her again. Before she touched scissor to my head, I want to be sure that we communicated about what happened last time to make sure that it wouldn’t happen again as I’ve been getting my haircut the same way for years, I have long hair on top some curls and short on the side. Valerie‘s response was that I ask her to cut my hair short. I haven’t worn my hair short in 30 years. She actually blamed me then refused to finish the haircut and the manager had to come over and finish my haircut so I could leave with a proper haircut.

Fantastic experience: Ashley always take her time when cutting my 11 year old son’s hair. She never rushes him out of the chair and makes sure he is pleased before she’s done. He always looks so handsome after his cuts. Ashley is the only one he trusts with his hair.

Negative experience: Terrible service. Terrible cut. I had an appointment with Tatiana W. Not only was she extremely rude, she also seemed annoyed when I asked her simple questions. I got the $65 cut that comes with a hair wash/condition. When I asked about the hair wash/condition she refused. When I asked further, she very angrily walked over to the hair wash station without telling me to follow her. She then proceeds to get annoyed at me when I didn’t follow her. All in all a terrible cut and terrible service. I will never recommend this barber shop to anyone.

Fantastic experience: Dane is absolutely amazing! Walked in here about 4 months ago and have been driving back from the Fremont area ever since. I go with a mid-high Fade and Dane is a pro at her craft. She always takes her time and utilizes the full hour to touch things up and make sure I walk out feeling great. The beer/whiskey/coffee and ambient vibe is a huge plus. Other barber shops charge a similar price but nowhere near the attentiveness and attention to detail. Friendly staff and genuine people overall.

Fantastic experience: I’ve had several cuts from Daisy in the last few months and I’ve been really happy with her work. I hadn’t had someone else cut my hair in over a decade and am still figuring out how to articulate what I want my hair to look like, but she has done a great job taking my vague descriptions and turning them into something really nice!

Fantastic experience: 5 Stars I always book with Jorge O—he never misses. Super consistent and always gets my cut just right. Even beyond Jorge, the whole squad at this barbershop is solid. You can see it in the way clients come in and how clean they look walking out. Definitely one of the most reliable spots around.

Positive experience: Great haircut and service yesterday, as always, from my barber. It was cold by the open door when I walked in so I went and sat in the back where it was warmer. I purposely sat in one of two barber chairs against the back wall that are not used for cuts or any other service. They’re just chairs. One of the other barbers (Toni is her name, I think) kept staring at me while I was sitting. I could tell she didn’t like me sitting there and was looking to come tell me to move. Finally she came over and told me that the chairs were broken and she didn’t want me to get hurt. I replied that I was sitting near the back because it was cold by the door, and reassured her that I could guard myself against personal injury. She then abandoned the broken chair pretense and said I wasn’t allowed to sit there and would need to move. This pissed me off, I must admit, and I responded by saying “fine, I’ll go sit by the door and be cold.” She said “that works for me.” Why? Why make a customer uncomfortable when there was no problem? I was just sitting there trying to stay warm until it was my turn to get my hair cut.

Negative experience: This place isn’t worth the price they charge. They offer you a whiskey or beer to make up for the poor customer service. I booked an appointment and got there 5 min early. Dana the barber didn’t see me to 20 minutes later. No biggie, but once i sat down and showed her a pic of what i always get. She said she didn’t have time because it would make her run late for her next appointment. So I wait only to be told they can’t help me because it would take too long?! Why not say that to the last person or the next?! Totally tacky. Wasted my time. Ive tried 3 different barbers from this shop and have been disappointed every time. Tbh, their staff seem like they belong at SuperCuts! I’m done.

Positive experience: Updated: usually great, had one not so great cut once. Was really happy w a past walk-in appointment and decided to try again—I don’t remember names unfortunately but barber did exactly the opposite of what I asked after quite a lot of explaining, including showing her pictures. Later got a note asking me to contact the shop. Explained situation and my next cut was 50% off and they were super cool and real even though I was kind of a mean brat in my last review

She is incredibly talented and she actually cares about give you a good cut. I would highly recommend her and this shop. I’ve also had my hair cut by several others at the shop when Toni was unavailable and they are also very talented. Such a great place.

Negative experience: Brought my two boys in. A fellow dad at my son’s school said this place was great for his boy. I figured I’d give it another try. Not my experience. Not sure why employees here come across so uninterested and borderline rude, but they did from check-in all the way through paying. I paid at least $20 more for each cut than I would at a standard barber shop, but paying more doesn’t always mean a better experience. Not much engagement from my barber on recommendations with my son’s hair or motivation to work around young kids. I get it though. They are not the stander easy cut. Getting home I got my own clippers out to clean up where the barber didn’t get. Hey, maybe it wasn’t the best day for them. It happens.

Negative experience: Barber not showing up or appointments being cancelled last min seems to be the norm here. And the cuts aren’t really worth the price (for me, personally. if you can’t cut Afro hair just be honest about it.)

Fantastic experience: After a few years of finding a new barber shop to call my ”go-to,” I quickly fell in love with the barbers and vibe at Peoples Barber & Shop, conveniently located in the Hive on Broadway, in Uptown Oakland. I've been seeing Daisy L. for a little over two years now, and always come out of each appointment feeling clean, fresh, and confident. I cannot recommend her and Peoples Barber enough.

Negative experience: I showed up at 11:45 for my haircut that was supposed to be at 12. I sat there until 12:20 before my haircut even began. When it finally began, I was in the chair for maybe 10 minutes before the lady was done cutting my hair. I paid $65 for a scissor cut and the haircut was 10 minutes. I mean that is just ridiculous. On top of that, the whole haircut I was facing away from the mirror, so I didn’t have the ability to look at what she was doing during the cut. She didn’t layer my hair, she didn’t evenly cut the top or the sides, and I am most likely going to have to get a second cut to fix up what she did. I have longer hair, so maybe they are better at short hair, but I was pretty disappointed with what I experienced. The one upside was that the people there were all extremely nice and friendly.

Negative experience: August 16th I decided I was going to have my haircut done instead of shaving bald. I live a few blocks away from Peoples Barber & Shop. I had gotten a haircut a couple years before paid $50 while I wait was given a beverage and after my cut a warm towel was used on me to wipe away lose hair. Back to August 16th I go in all I want is my sides done asking for a fade tapperd to a 2. I showed up 15 minutes ahead of my appointment offered no beverage saw my stylist and explained what I want they were confused so I explained best I could so they understand. Long story short I spend less then 4 minutes in the chair then shown yeah that's basically what I asked for but not great I go to pay bill and they charge me $70. Jump forward to today I go get another haircut because I want to look good I got to The Shop out in Berkeley and explained the same thing and they took great care of me. I pay this bill and they charge me $15. So you can see I will show one picture of me after the Peoples Barber and one of the Shop. The one with glasses on is $70 the no grasses is $15. I will never return to this place again. They even replied that they are not a barbershop so they verified their fakeness,

Fantastic experience: The barbers at People's always do a great job! They all check in to see if the cut is looking how I want it, and will make adjustments based on my requests. I'm not super chatty, but everyone I've seen has been friendly and fun to talk to. My go-to barber is Toni. When I got my first cut from her, she immediately zoned in on my problematic cowlicks, and suggested a haircut that would prevent them from sticking up constantly. I took her advice and the resulting hairstyle looks great and is what I've been wearing for a couple years now. Minutes after my last appointment a stranger complimented my hair! I also want to shout out Daisy and Dane! I've gone to them when Toni wasn't available, and they both were very attentive and gave great haircuts. As someone who used to go to hair salons, the price honestly feels very reasonable, even after my tip brings the total to $70+. To me its worth it to get consistent results from kind barbers.

You don’t have to wait hours for a cut. You can schedule and even pay for your appointment online, and the barbers are always right on schedule. It’s combination of 21st-century business practices, old school friendliness, and impressive haircutting skills keep me coming back to the People’s Barber.

Negative experience: I used to go here all the time but I've given up on them. The people who work here have a lot of attitude. It's like they are doing you a favor. One time they told me after I arrived they only take cash even though they don't state that on their website where you book appointments. Then another time they said they'd take credit cards. They've also become very expensive for what you get.
