Fantastic experience: If you're in need of a barber, either because you're new here or need a fresh start, you need to run to this barbershop. Im a loyalty guy, but switching to Tonsor was the best move I've made. Shop is clean, environment is welcoming and relaxed, and you get an experience no other shops are doing. Every time I've come here, ive gotten EXACTLY what I want for a cut. If you needed a sign to come in, let this be that message.

Negative experience: The barbers here are respectful however I believe that is the wrong place to get a haircut if you have textured hair 4c etc. I had a "professional" barbor cut my hair for more than two hours in the chair for something that is usually 40 minutes and I do think that it is unfair for both of our times. I wish that if the barber was not experienced with the hair they didn't use me as a test mule. I wish he would have said "hey I cannot do this" and declined the service as right now I have the worst haircut I've ever had. To this I say if you do have textured hair as a good amount of POC do, please continue your research elsewhere.

Fantastic experience: I have to absolutely give 5 stars. My husband had hair down to the bottom of his back. We moved back to Vancouver and wasn't sure where to go, he was nervous to get his haircut. We came across this barber shop, seen the reviews and gave it a shot. My husband's hair looks so good, that we came back to get it cut again AND he now does my son's hair too. The barber is Hanif, he is incredible, and skilled. Made both my husband and son feel comfortable and offered some products that work for both their different hair types. Fantastic experience: Stopped by for a walk-in (I mean, can you even do that anymore?). The tunes were classic hits and a few older classics off vinyl. The do-mister was Juan, and he definitely had his own flavor. He told me right off the bat that things were what they were, but my cut was going to be on point. Juan delivers. I will be back.

We searched up barbers on Google, found Tonsor, which lead to finding the one and only Hanif! Not only was this shop immaculately clean and well put together, the vibe was welcoming and the plants were healthy☺️ The staff were amazing and very understanding and accommodating of our four young children. The experience was everything! From the facial lather to hot towel wrap, and from the straight razor shape up all the way to the confidence my family walked out with We'll be sure to make another trip of it for all the boys! Negative experience: Called to schedule an appointment. Was told cash payment required, but wanted me to provide all credit card details with security code to reserve in case of no show to charge me. This is a security issue, and does not parlay trust with your business. Fix it.

Fantastic experience: Hanif and his team of highly-skilled barbers run hands-down the best barbershop in town. You can heap praise about their ideally positioned downtown location, the warm handshake you get as you walk through the door and someone taking your coat for you. You can comment on the thoughtful decor, shelves of classic novels and stacks of curated records. The haircuts, neck shaves, and beard trims are all-time, and you’ll always leave the shop looking great. But where Tonsor really shines is the people. There aren’t a lot of places these days that give you the classic barbershop feel where you can talk about anything, come in as you are, and leave always taking something more than a haircut; Tonsor is an experience.

Negative experience: I booked with Alex (he quit apparently) he was replaced with someone else, without notice to me. I really wanted more work on my beard and a head shave. I did not receive that. I did receive kindness and a great experience but not exactly what I paid for. The head shave was ok but I can get it closer at home, the beard was nothing more than I can do. Hot towels, nice treatment. That’s all. In the end, Very disappointing! Update: Hanif reached out to me right away and took care of me himself. He is a man of his word, he did a great job. I will book again.

Fantastic experience: We scheduled an appointment to get my finances hair cut from a long length to very short, facial hair, and eyebrows cleaned up. Appointment got booked same day fast and easy via phone call. She did an amazing job cleaning him up looking fresh and new !!! My 14yr old son got his hair done by Juan a couple days ago, and it turned out amazing! After a bad haircut at salon my son was very nervous about getting it cut again. Fantastic experience: Truly amazing experience! I can’t say enough good things about our experience with Shaiann. My teenage son is very particular about his hair, to the point where we’ve had years of argument over it. It’s always been a stressful ordeal for both of us until now. Shaiann listened so carefully to his preferences, asked thoughtful questions and even requested inspiration photos to make sure she understood exactly what he wanted. She didn’t rush through anything, but she was still incredibly efficient and focused. Most importantly, she matched his energy and treated him with respect, which made all the difference. The result? A haircut he’s actually proud of. He walked out smiling, and for the first time in years, he didn’t immediately throw his hoodie over his head. That alone says everything. I was looking for a haircut late Saturday afternoon while driving around Vancouver and called Tonsor. They invited me to walk in and I only waited about 20 minutes (reading some handy Marcus Aurelius to set my mood) before they were ready for me. Benito was my guy and I give major kudos for how personable and laid back he was with me. I told him what I was looking for then just sat back discussing life, previous jobs and after seeing Paolo Freire's "Pedagogy of the Oppressed" on their shelf, education and how it all fit together. Through all that, he pulled the style together with deftness and confidence. Truly impressed with his skills and how he really listened to what I needed. This place is a gem, classy yet unpretentious and a fitting addition to the revival of downtown Vancouver. Check them out. You will not be sorry.
