Fantastic experience: I love going to Sailor Bup's - there's a great vibe and now I know a couple of the barbers, I can go in and they know how I like my hair. They get it right every time! Good times, good conversation, just some fine relaxation with some well skilled folks. Do yourself a favour, book your time in advance and then you know you'll be completely taken care of. Can't rate them highly enough.

Fantastic experience: Hands down the best barbershop in Halifax. I've been getting my haircut here since 2014 and have never been disappointed - now my sons go here too. It's not just the haircut. Mark and the babble of barbers (yes, I looked that up) make it an experience. Whether you want to chat or need a moment of calm, you'll get an excellent cut from true craftspeople doing traditional barbering in a cool shop. They're funny, kind, and damn good at what they do!

Fantastic experience: In town for a week and needed a quick clean up. This barbershop came highly recommended and they did not disappoint. Alex is a true professional. I waited about a half hour for a walk in and watched several haircuts being done. Everyone left happy with several great styles. This barbershop is licensed and the option to have a fine beverage was awesome.

Fantastic experience: The mark of a truly good barber shop is that they cut to how you ask. For me, a good relationship with your barber is important because one would hope that even though your choices may not be the best, they would facilitate your wants to do what you believe is best.

Negative experience: It’s a barber shop apparently, but when my girl is watching another women massage my face it feels like a parlour. Also she can’t straight razor when I ask so that’s bad and also $80 for a hair cut is dumb. Be faster instead of making it a 1 hour massage parlour. I won’t be back and you won’t care because you’re all hipster vegans anyways so middle off to you all

Fantastic experience: Just finished hiking the Appalachian Trail, I was only in Halifax for the morning, but the awesome people at Sailor Bup’s fit me in. Literally the best shave and haircut I have had anywhere. My barber was awesome, as is the entire vibe in the shop. This will be my go to spot when on the East Coast, period!

Positive experience: Friendly but pricey. $49.45 for a men’s cut plus $6.32 for a non-alcoholic cider. Should offer a free coffee or bottle of water for these prices (and I’m from Toronto)

Fantastic experience: Such a great experience. These people are true professionals, and connoisseurs of the art of barbering. Is that a word? Barbering? I’m gonna say it’s a word. If you want to take your hair seriously, go to people who also take it seriously. That’s these guys.

Fantastic experience: I was visiting Halifax and needed a hair cut. I walked in to Sailor Bups and asked if they did walk-ins. Alex hooked me up and gave me a great hair cut including a hot foam and straight razor on my neck. The atmosphere and decor were awesome. When I visit again I'll definitely go back.

Fantastic experience: The day before coming here I got a haircut at a different shop and after leaving I could feel that the length was inconsistent and annoying. The following day I was walking by and asked if the staff of Sailor Bup's would even it out for me. Alex welcomed me and took 6 minutes to clean up the missed hairs. He was kind, funny and did a fantastic job. On top of that, he didn't charge for his services. I will be returning here for future haircuts and can highly recommend this location.

Fantastic experience: I had my long hair cut by Mark, he did a great job. If you are a woman needing a straightforward hair cut for a reasonable price ($35) this is the place to go. They were busy when I was there, always a good sign. Now that TopCuts in the Vertu has closed, this is my new place to go. Loved the decor too.

Negative experience: If your door is unlocked and your cutting hair regardless of who it might be then your open and have no reason to tell your potential clients your not open. If your not open for general business, lock your door and update your hours to reflect your business hours. I guess your don’t care about future clients.

Fantastic experience: So I moved from Edmonton in March and needing to find a new barber. This place is it. The small talk is on point, the banter between barbers is hilarious. My beard looks great! I have been sitting in Alex’s chair, great dude!

Fantastic experience: I had two big events coming up and needed to look fresh and professional. I booked a chair at Sailor Bup's and Huggies hooked me up! I let him know that I would be leading a meeting at work and attending a wedding on the weekend. He made a point of asking if it was my wedding because he wanted to follow my vision but give me the professional advice I might need. After learning my priorities, he used an array of tools and techniques to give me one of the best dos I've ever had. Good chit chat too. No hug though. But that's just because Huggies keeps it professional. The whole environment of Sailor Bup's was great, with the energy, humour, and busy artwork of a traditional barbershop.

Fantastic experience: Alex did a great haircut for my wedding. He was very friendly and put in lots of effort to ensure it was what I wanted for the big day. He also cut the hair of one of my family members for the same occasions, and again did a great job.

Fantastic experience: I have been going to Sailor Bups for two years and it is always a great experience. Mark is professional and the atmosphere is good. I am not into antique look of the place but this has modern'ish' touch to it that doesn't make you feel sitting in a 15th century castle.

Positive experience: Got a haircut, and described how my hair when cut short sticks out, and asked to keep it long. Didn't matter, as it was cut short.. Negative experience: Cancelled the same day as my appointment because the the barber had to go pick up his car..not really a valid reason to cancel in my opinion.

Jackie was amazing, she was very friendly and thorough and did the best she could to make my hair look infinitely more presentable. She cut my hair exactly the way I had envisioned it prior to going inside. The place was clean and very barbershopy(yes, it isn't a real word). With Covid restrictions lifting now you are able to wait inside of the shop for your turn.

I am of course satisfied with her work. However I can't figure out a difference between Sailor Bup's $35 haircut experience and another barber nearby giving me the same satisfaction for just $25.

Negative experience: Show a reference picture for a medium long haircut, and was assured it’d work. Cut was 1/2 the asked length. They offered to fix it and made it even shorter. End product does still not look good. Will be growing hair for another 6 months to fix it. Professional and did not charge for the cut. Signs ask not to leave negative reviews but take it up with the barbers. Will not be getting my hair cut here again.
