Bill, we take our reputation and the work of our team very seriously, which is why this review is disappointing to read.

You arrived approximately 20 minutes late for a 30 minute appointment. In order to respect the guests scheduled after you, your original stylist was unable to complete the service without putting the rest of the day behind. Rather than cancel your appointment, we made a concerted effort to accommodate you with another experienced stylist so you could still be seen.

To publicly characterize the haircut as a “hack job” feels less like an honest assessment of the service and more like an attempt to justify frustration over a situation that resulted from arriving late. We stand behind the quality of our work and the professionalism of our team.

Running on schedule is not optional for us. It is how we ensure fairness and consistency for every guest in our chairs.

We understand you have canceled your membership, and are just fine with that. We are confident you will find a shop that better aligns with your expectations.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are genuinely sorry to hear that you left unhappy. Any time a guest feels uncomfortable or dissatisfied with a service, that is not the experience we want at Scissors & Scotch.

According to our records your last visit was around three months ago. Because of the time that has passed and because we were not contacted at the time of your service, there is unfortunately no way for us to confirm whether the irritation you describe came from a visit to our shop. If we had known about this when it happened, we would have invited you back in right away to take a look and make it right.

Regarding your comments about the membership, the program is a month to month membership, which is clearly explained at sign up and in the written documentation you receive. There is no scam involved. When you called to cancel your membership, our team processed the cancellation and refunded the most recent charge that same day in real time. If you had told us months ago that you wanted to cancel then, we would have been just as prompt at that time as well. We do not make cancellation a difficult or complicated process. I simple text message will do. What we can not do is refund past months simply because a membership was not used, especially since we text reminders to our members to encourage them to come in and take advantage of their benefits.

When you spoke with our lounge team the day before this review posted, we understand that you mentioned you would leave a negative review if we were not able to provide the refund you were asking for. It is disappointing to see that play out here, especially after we handled the cancellation and same day refund for you within our policies.

We truly are sorry that we were not the right fit for you, and we hope you find a shop that better matches what you are looking for in both service and membership options.

When we first opened the shop, I was genuinely excited to feature a full lineup of unique and top shelf scotches. Unfortunately, despite our efforts, those bottles gathered more dust than interest. The reality is that Charlotte leans heavily into bourbon and locally crafted beers. That preference has shaped how we stock our bar, with a stronger focus on what the majority of our clients ask for: well made Old Fashioneds, creative craft cocktails, and a rotating tap of local brews.

That said, we hear you loud and clear. Scotch lovers are a rare but valued bunch, and your experience reminds us to revisit what we offer from time to time. We hope you’ll give us another shot, not necessarily for the scotch, but maybe to see if we can win you over with something else from the bar.

At Scissors & Scotch, our prices reflect the quality of our services, the skill of our barbers, and the overall experience—from the consultation to the precision cut, fade, and relaxing finish. The additional charge for a skin fade is due to the extra time and detail required. It’s a more technical service than a standard fade, which can typically be done more quickly with clippers and doesn’t incur any added cost.

As for the foil shaver—we deliberately choose not to use them because we believe a straight razor delivers a cleaner, smoother result. It also provides a more refined and elevated experience, which is what we strive for in every service.

That said, I do want to clarify a few things. You arrived about 10 minutes late to your appointment, which significantly shortened the time available for your service. Our team works hard to stay on schedule out of respect for all guests, and unfortunately, that delay meant we had to adjust the experience to avoid running into the next client’s appointment. The wash, hot towel, and neck clean are included when time allows — and we typically can deliver the full experience when appointments start on time.

Also, based on the reference photo you provided, it looks like you were going for a full transformation. That kind of cut requires extra time and usually needs to be booked as such. If we had known in advance, we would’ve happily adjusted the booking to give Alexis the time she needed to fully execute that look.

I understand you’re disappointed, but in fairness, consistent last-minute cancellations and showing up late does make it challenging for us to provide the top-tier service we aim for.

That said, we appreciate you giving us a try, and I’ll go ahead and cancel your membership. Wishing you all the best in finding a shop that better aligns with your needs.
