You can tell right away that he’s trained in London, New York, and Paris because the guy knows his craft better than anyone. Every time I leave, my hair looks incredible—perfectly layered, clean, and natural in a way that just falls into place on its own. It doesn’t matter if you want something classic or modern, Mike somehow nails it every single time. But it’s not just the haircut. Mike is genuinely a great guy—easy to talk to, super professional, and you can tell he actually cares about how you look when you walk out the door. He takes his time to get every detail right and gives you the kind of haircut that looks good even weeks later, not just the day you get it. I’ve been to plenty of barbers before, but nobody compares to Mike. If you want a world-class haircut without the attitude, this is the place. I honestly can’t recommend him enough. They work quickly yet thoroughly, and they make every effort to keep kids calm and content. My son always leaves with a smile on his face (along with a balloon animal and lollipop). Negative experience: Worst haircut of my life from Mike. Requested 1.5" off the top w/ scissors and a 3 guard on the sides. Whole haircut took <10 mins. Did not significantly cut hair off the top and spent majority of the time aggressively shaving the sides of my head much shorter than I asked, even left a divot in my hair in the process. Walked out with an uneven cut and wet hair caked in hair gel. I'm sure the other barbers are 5 star quality but beware this barber, not the work of a master as advertised.

Fantastic experience: We were visiting Boston on vacation and went out of our way to find this shop for back to school haircuts for our sons. Mike and Elias were fantastic! Both were so friendly and welcoming. My husband hadn’t even planned on getting a haircut, but their skill won him over, and he walked out with the best haircut he's ever had. Mike was telling us about his upcoming trip to Italy for a special razor course/certification. These guys are practicing a craft to be sure. They’re the real deal. Highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: Needed a change and decided to try out Z Barbershop. Mike was great from start to finish. He suggested a few changes from how I usually get my hair trimmed and he was right! Fantastic experience: I hav been getting my hair cut by Michael the barber for 20 years, following him from 3 different shops. I’m very fussy and he aims to please. He is constantly making my 62yo head looking ten years younger with precision cuts! Just an update to my earlier post Went in on this past Monday, a little 4th of July tighten up and left with another fabulous and fast cut. In and out in 20 minutes and back to work. Never have a problem with parking either. All in all another great experience!!

Fantastic experience: I should probably create new reviews for each time I get a great haircut at Z’s, but I feel like that might just be a weird bolstering of ratings so I just keep updating this one. Without a doubt, I left with the best haircut I’ve ever received this past week. Apparently it is a 1930’s Scottish Military code cut but I all I know is the wife and kids all gave an audible “Whoa!” when I walked in. My son is 15 so he has no issues criticizing me as he sees fit so it has to be the truth. Michael was friendly as always. He makes me feel welcomed every time I am in the chair and recently offered me amazing information on insurance coverage which, as I get “wiser”, I genuinely appreciate. I certainly have more grey hairs than when I started to visit Z’a but regardless of the hair color I always leave there knowing I look about as good as I can which is all an average looking dude can ask for. Update... Another solid haircut from Michael. I have been coming to Z's for years now and the thing I enjoy the most is the way new people are treated when they walk in to the shop. I remember a strange anxiety walking into this place when I first started coming in but that was immediately taken away by the friendly attitudes from Michael, Z, John and the rest of the crew. I saw a new person walk in this past weekend and that warm welcome has not changed. Good stuff. Keep it up!

Fantastic experience: Update 3: 2025 and Mike is still in top form. If he’s not top five in the country I don’t care who is. Been going for almost a decade now and just got some of my best haircuts this summer. Mike is legit, not to mention a good person. Mike isn’t just a barber—he’s been a mentor. Go check him out. Update 2: Michael Coronella has been cutting my hair for a decade now. his skill is not even peaked, yet it’s so high. Mike has trained in London and Paris. Few barbers invest so much into their brand. Mike’s brand is untouchable. Go see him. Update: Michael just got back from a London barber school—new skills are incredible. Been going to Mike for years now. This is a great shop overall, comfortable, and quality work. If your mother used to cut your hair and when you outgrew that you looked for whatever $18 haircut you could find, this is the step you know you need to take. Also, if you are still getting line-ups but wish you knew someone who knew how to use scissors, this is a good look.

Negative experience: My husband cuts his hair with Elias and absolutely loves it. Doesn’t want to cut it with anyone else. Unfortunately, today we had our first overt xenophobic experience in Boston, by the other barber, Mike. While overhearing a conversation by my husband and Elias, Mike started asking about our citizenship status, and when my husband explained that we were not citizens but my daughter was, he derogatorily called her an “anchor child”. To no one’s surprise, if you look back reviews from years ago, you will find other reports of xenophobia, in addition to many terrible reviews of him for other reasons. It’s beyond my comprehension how a guy like this can continue to be employed, specially in a immigrant owned business. Unfortunately I can’t continue to support a place that allows something like this.

Fantastic experience: I got a fresh cut for my birthday, but after a day I really wasn’t feeling it, so I went to ZBarbershop hoping that they could fix my hair. Thank god for Mike Cornell because not only did he fix my hair, but he fit me into his schedule on Easter Sunday to do it. Appreciate you Mike! Loved what he did to my hair too. I’ll be back no doubt.

Fantastic experience: I went today to get my hair done and It's probaly the best decision I made. They are profesionals and I could tell that they love their jobs becuase while I was cutting my hair I was having a good time and feeling comfortable all the time. Mike (my barber) cut my hair based on my facial features and it turned out insane. I wish I was lying but I am being dead serious. Very profesional work.

Fantastic experience: Recently I visited Z Barbershop for the first time. The decision to cut my hair off was made due to Chemotherapy treatments I am receiving at the Boston Veterans Hospital. Upon entering this establishment I was greeted by a gentleman named Michael. He would ask me how I would like my haircut and when I explained my situation he became rather emotional as he informed me that he just finished his Chemotherapy treatments and reassured me that everything would be ok. After he cut my hair and as I went to pay he informed me that it was free as any future haircut as a cancer patient would also be as well. Michael would ask me to pass this on to any other veteran that is suffering from cancer and hair loss. I must say that this experience solidified and reignited my belief that there is truly good people in this world. As of today, this was truly the best haircut I have ever had in my 61 years on earth. Negative experience: By far the worst haircut I have ever had. Extremely untalented barber (not a personal shot). Fade was way too high, disconnected and the barber rushed through it. Would give 0 stars if possible. I would not recommend going there for any type of haircut. Full story below for anyone interested I requested a mid fade. 2 minutes in I had to put put the barber on notice that he does not cut symmetrical with the razor as he went way higher on one side than on the other. He also pushed it way too high leaving my sides completely disconnected with hair on top. The back head is way too short on top and completely disconnected with the rest of my top leading to a horrific silhouette from the side profile. The result is an absolute disgrace. I do not know how long the barber has been doing this, but regardless of the time he must have been insanely untalented as anyone with the experience of 1 or 2 haircuts could have easily done a better job and I sincerely mean this without exaggerating on this one. Not only seemed the barber way too untalented for his job, but he also rushed through it even though there was no other client waiting for him, something I do not understand at all. He rushed around my head while trimming it. Of course the result was a completely imprecise and bad fade. It was absolutely not blended in whatsoever. I would not want to criticise someone so harshly who tries their best, focuses and pays a little attention to detail. Also I do want to make clear that this is not a personal shot at the barber at all. He is just not made for this job, with all due respect. I paid 35 dollars for this haircut, I would not even get this haircut if someone offered me 100 dollars. And to be honest, the other clients that went to the other barbers at the shop did not get a good haircut either. The other barbers I have seen also rushed through their haircut, finishing it in 15 to 20min for the whole head. Now some people may not have too high standards but any average person who somewhat cares a little bit about their looks should not go to this barber shop.

The haircuts are always professional, consistent, and very well done. However, I even more appreciate the genuine conversation with Nick and his interest in what I have going on in my life. I have curly and wavy hair and his cut always makes me look like a million bucks by building in layers and volume into my hair. If he leaves Z, I'll go to him. Fantastic experience: I found this place after a different barber messed up my hair badly. Mike truly has golden hands; he did an "emergency" touch-up and advised me to come back a month later once some of the hair had grown back (he'd only charge me for the second time). A month later I went back, and after looking like a badly shorn sheep for a month, left with perfectly-cut hair with no signs of damage. Mike is a truly kindhearted person, and also a great conversationalist with a calm yet engaging manner. He made the haircut a truly wonderful experience. I cannot recommend him enough!

Fantastic experience: I’ve been looking for a good barber in Boston for a while now, and after reading Mike’s profile, I thought it’d be a good idea to try out this place. Stumbled on this place and it’s a gem, tucked away across from five horses on Columbus. Really good scissor work for mid/longer men’s hair, especially middle parts and layering. Negative experience: Had a haircut with Mike. Pretty much a regretful decision. Since my barbershop was close on Sunday I went to this barbershop since I’ve seen good reviews on Z barbershop. They were wrong. As I walked in it was pretty fine at first. He talked with me and knows how to communicate which I enjoy until, he starts to get personal about my routine in doing my hair which made me feel uncomfortable talking about. (I asked for a low taper fade little trim on top.) But he cut my hair WAY too short. He pretty much ruined my wavy hair too. I asked to texture my hair since my hair was too straight and he gave me texture powder since there wasn’t texture spray. Hear about this, once he put on the texture powder he kinda yelled “Do it, use your hand to texture it.” Since when I had to do my own hair at a BARBERSHOP?? Better yet, he use a brush and kept on pulling my hair very tightly. It was painful. Finished the haircut and he saw me worrying why i kept touching my hair and I said I’m just trying to style as I want. He said “do you wanted to change because I can.” I kindly said I’m good as I don’t want him to make my hair any different the way it is now. Left the shop with a disappointing face of mine. Not coming back ever again.

Negative experience: Just a bad haircut that could’ve been done in 10 mins if the barber wasn’t talking the whole time. Sorry if you see this but my confidence was pretty low after I left. Definitely not what I was hoping for, especially considering how you didn’t even ask me what I wanted. I tried to voice what I wanted and you were not very receptive…”are you sure” Yes I’m sure, it’s MY hair. Before the owner responds and says that I left the shop happy(which I am now noticing he does frequently after checking the lowest reviews)…am I supposed to sit there and say to the barber’s face that he did a bad job? There’s nothing to gain there, however I feel the review here is important for the sake of future customers.

Fantastic experience: While in town from New Jersey, I needed a quick haircut before running the Boston Marathon. I didn't have high expectations; I just needed a quick cut. To my surprise, it turned out to be one of the best haircuts of my life, being on par with top barbershops I've visited in NYC, Budapest and and Munich. What impressed me the most was former Northeastern students stopping in with the sole purpose of visiting their favorite barber. As a graduate of Northeastern 13 years ago, this place definitively has my husky stamp of approval. And you guys even get a student discount for a top-notch cut. Doesn't get any better than that.

Fantastic experience: I wrote this review 2+ years ago and it stilll holds true ! Stopped in to see Mike today, and he delivered as always. Consitency is key in a sucessful business relationship. Mike has been my go-to for a haircut for over 20 years. He's seen me thru long hair, short hair and now thinning hair, and he's never failed to deliver that "I Look Good" feeling when I walk out of the shop ! I frequently tell him he must be a magician. He's warm, welcoming and quickly puts you at ease. I watch the personal pride he takes in doing quality work, and the satifaction that it brings both his cleints and himself.

Fantastic experience: 20Y M, student, straight medium/long hair. I frequently make the mistake of trusting the barber to know what looks good and use their instinct. Some of my worst mistakes have been haircuts. I cannot stress enough how much LESS I worry about getting haircuts and how much MORE I look forward to them after getting my first haircut with Mike Cornella. There’s something minutely different about my cut each time but each iteration is a major improvement on the last. He is truly a master barber. Don’t go anywhere else.

Fantastic experience: Michael Coronella did an amazing job on my little boy. We went in because he needed a shape up for the new school year. Incredible atmosphere, amazing people and even my dog loved their treats. I’ll definitely be going back to Michael again he’s a great barber and would highly recommend him!

Fantastic experience: My son recently went to Z’s and got an excellent haircut from Mike. Another barber had tried to cut is very wavy hair and did such an awful job. I took him to Z’s to see if they could fix it and Mike did an amazing job with what he had to work with. Will definitely be taking my son there again.

Fantastic experience: It took me a long time to find a barber in Boston who could cut my hair the way I needed it done, I found Mikey coronella and he absolutely killed it. I’ve got long curly hair with a cowlick to kill. Not many people can cut it the way it needs to be so it actually looks good Mikey did and I’ll definitely be going back to get my hair done by him.
