Fantastic experience: I was able to make a last minute appointment on a weekend while in the area and got seen pretty quickly. Parking is the biggest issue here because it’s such a tight location but the service inside was impeccable with excellent communication and a great quality cut. I’ll be back next time I’m out there.

Fantastic experience: This barbershop is hands down one of the best around. Professional, clean, and they really take their time to make sure you leave looking sharp.

Negative experience: I rarely leave negative reviews, but this was one of the worst experiences I’ve had. The haircut was rushed, uneven, and nothing like what I requested. Communication was poor and there was little attention to detail. I left feeling disappointed and uncomfortable. I wouldn’t recommend this place if you care about quality and customer service.

Positive experience: Today I had my first visit to Van Fade Barbershop on Commercial Drive and overall I had a great exeprience. The fellow who cut my hair was very polite and listened to what I explained I would like from in the haircut he as about to give me and he did a great job. I am happy with the cut he gave me and it was quite quick but in no way did he rush and I felt well taken care of. The location is cash only, so if you need to obtain some cash to pay for your haircut it is a good idea to do this BEFORE you get there. They do have a small white label ATM inside the shop which I used to get quick cash to pay for my service but I would recoomend using this as a last resort only simply because white label ATMs are notoriously unreliable and also more expensive than using a big bank ATM even when it is from a bank with which you do not have a relationship. I may have missed it but I don't think there was a note on the webpage where I made my booking alerting me to bring cash, otherwise Id have given this visit 5 starts. OVerall really a good place to go for a mens cut!

Negative experience: I had a beard trim from Azhdar. I went with him based off his experience from his profile, however, it wasn't a great trim. I think I gave a clear idea of what I was hoping to get from the beard trim and it sounded like he understood as well. Unfortunately, he had me reclined for the entire appointment and so I was a bit surprised when I was sat up and saw the end result that it wasn't anything like what I was looking for. Aside from a straight line at the back of my beard, it seems like I got exactly what I trying to say I didn't want. On the plus side, the shop is in a convenient location and based off what I see on their social media, they should know how to do the trim that I wanted since I saw this on other clients on their social media page. Unfortunately, it seemed that what I saw on social media could not be replicated on me. For environment, It was a quiet and unengaging experience in the chair.. Regardless, it is unfortunate, because I went there with some confidence they would be able to do the trim that I wanted, regardless of the vibe or experience at the shop. I didn't fully get what I asked and some aspects like the moustache were quite uneven. I did point out some of the concerns and he did say he can try again, but I really didn't think he would be able to make it better (or why I didn't want what I got), and I didn't want it to be worse than it already was. I personally felt he was quite indifferent throughout the whole process, especially when I was showing pictures at the end of something similar to what I wanted. At the end, I was trying to show him a picture re-explaining what I was trying to achieve (although not exactly replicated) and contrast that to what I got from him, but I don't think it was received. Overall, you can go here for a basic trim if you're in the area (since it's convenient), but it may not be a chill, engaging and vibey environment. It seems that there are other clients who were repeats with other barbers, so perhaps make sure you have a barber that knows what you want, and can maybe explain back to you what you want and can do what you want, especially if you find a look on their social media that your barber did. Otherwise, there are definitely other options in the city. UPDATE: The owner’s response is inaccurate. I didn’t "change my mind"; I asked for a correction because the trim didn't match the request. I said I was "fine" to move on, to end the service because the hair was already gone and I wanted to leave, not because I was satisfied (and this was communicated to the barber). Suggesting I didn't know what I wanted is a deflection—I provided clear instructions that weren't followed. Disappointing to see the shop blame the customer rather than own the mistake.

Fantastic experience: Hakim did a great job cutting my son’s hair. He was super patient, friendly, and made the whole experience easy. The haircut came out really clean and exactly what he wanted. Definitely recommend Hakim if you’re looking for a solid barber, especially for kids.

I canceled the booking before my booking time (which I am entitled to and says in the email) and then I get a call from NOOR yelling at me for cancelation. What type of behavior is this? I was gonna be your new customer and now you lost it

So when it came time for me to find a new barber, I figured—why not go to the same place he trusts? I’ll admit, I was nervous. I wasn’t sure how I’d feel walking into what I assumed was a super male-dominated space. But from the second I sat in Azhdar’s chair, I realized how wrong I was. He’s not only incredibly skilled (seriously, I leave the shop feeling brand new), but he’s also kind, down-to-earth, and just easy to talk to. Our conversations are genuinely some of the best parts of my week. It’s that rare combo of professional and personal that makes you feel totally comfortable and hyped at the same time. Negative experience: I booked an appointment with Kashi for the first time and arrived just 5 minutes late. To my surprise, Kashi already had another client in the chair and didn’t confirm anything with me before starting their haircut. I was left waiting, even though I had an appointment. Eventually, I had to cancel and leave because I didn’t have time to wait around. What’s the point of booking an appointment if it’s not going to be honoured? Very disappointed with the lack of professionalism. Update :- Following that incident, Owner called me and said he would review the camera footage and resolve the matter. However, when owner called again, his tone had changed—he implied that I was lying. He told me Kashi claimed I hadn’t arrived until 3:20 p.m. and that he had waited 20 minutes. Without asking me to confirm my side of the story or even description of myself, I had to provide my parking receipt to prove I was being truthful. He then sent me a screenshot of your security footage, saying I entered at 2:40 p.m., but I clearly explained that I had arrived no later than 3:05 p.m. He admitted at that point that the camera system’s timestamp was inaccurate. Now, owner continue to send me messages, which has become extremely frustrating. I originally came in for a simple haircut. Instead, I’ve been drawn into a prolonged and uncomfortable situation where I’m repeatedly asked to defend myself. I have no ill intent toward your business—I simply shared a review reflecting my honest experience. Unfortunately, what should have been a straightforward visit turned into a stressful and unnecessarily drawn-out ordeal. In addition, I’d like to kindly request a copy of your salon’s cancellation policy for my reference. I also want to raise a further concern: I canceled an appointment on May 3 at 8:55 a.m., which was 6 hours and 50 minutes before the scheduled time of 2:45 p.m. Despite providing what I believe to be more than reasonable notice, Owner contacted me again, saying I had wasted his time. When I asked for your official cancellation policy, his response was that “he don’t like me anymore” and that “he don’t care.” I found this response unprofessional and inappropriate. This pattern of persistent communication—is starting to feel harassing.

Fantastic experience: I got a mid skin-fade from Mirella and she did a fantastic job. She took her time and even re-curled my hair after brushing it out to trim it, but the best part is that we had a great time chatting while she was giving me the fade. We spent most of the time laughing and it was a very enjoyable experience. Plus they only charged me $35 when I was expecting it to be more.

Fantastic experience: I’m giving 5 stars only because of a previous visit where I got great haircuts. But today, May 27, I had an awful experience. I came in hoping to get a haircut for my graduation, asked for a low taper fade with long hair on top. Instead, I got a completely different cut. The lady messed up my hair, and even after trying to fix it, it still looked off and nothing like what I asked for. Then came the payment. She told me it was $35 plus tax, so I handed her $40. She just said, “yeah that’s it.” I wasn’t planning to tip, considering how unhappy I was with the haircut. But while I was waiting for my change, she straight-up asked me if I wasn’t going to tip her. I was already upset, and that just made it worse. Rather than cause a scene, I just left. I’m sharing this so others can think twice before going in. Really disappointing, especially when this was supposed to be for an important day.

Negative experience: Went in for an appointment and was told he called in sick. After respectfully declining a haircut from the other barbers on duty. (Ive had haircuts from most of them). One of the gentlemen thought it'd be funny to recommend the contractor that was doing repairs at the time. I thought that was rude and disrespectful and unprofessional considering the current situation i was in. I didnt get an apology untill i was already leaving. Although I've had good experiences with the Arabs in particular, today the place is disrespectful and unprofessional music was loud and obnoxious. Today the place was more of a playground rather than a professional place of business.

Positive experience: My haircut was excellent but you should bring cash ahead of your appointment since Van Fade doesn't accept debit or credit. The barber was great at cutting hair but didn't think to tell me before my haircut began that they only take cash. Van Fade does have an ATM in the store, but it's a skeevy obscure brand of ATM usually only seen in bars, VLT lounges, carnival grounds and uh, other super reputable places of business, that charges an exorbitant $3 per transaction. A week after using it to withdraw cash to pay for my haircut, in fact, fraudulent charges appeared on my credit card. I can't prove it was because I used Van Fade's ATM, of course, and I'm not saying management is aware of it, but I'm very suspicious as these machines are easy to bug. So, save yourself the potential hassle and withdraw money from your bank before going to Van Fade.
