Now the next visit I recently had again very friendly. However the female that cut my hair was pretty aggressive with the trimmer and i had a painful experience. It seemed like she was rushing the haircut I got. Overall this place is pretty good I just preferred my experience with the male barber.

Fantastic experience: On a scale from 1 - 10, you’d think that your hair dresser’s retirement would be a 1 on the calamity scale. Maybe a 2 at most. I thought nothing of going to have my hair cut and styled every 3-4 weeks and having it coiffed to perfection. I didn’t need to look like a movie star. Or maybe a famous musician. Just a hair cut. And for almost ten years that’s what happened. I had no idea what was coming down the hair cut tube… For almost a year I auditioned various hair dressers with disastrous results to both my hair and my poor self image. I tried a barber shop connected to a famous men’s store on Richmond row twice. Nope. Never followed my instructions to replicate what the retired hair dresser did. I even showed a photograph of the hair cut from my former hair dresser. The pic was disregarded - completely. Then off to a hair dresser on Colborne Street whose mannerisms I would describe as erratic and actually unnerving. In addition, his Rottweiler kept that trying to be “friendly” by invading my space only added to the chaos. I can only describe the resulting hair cut as…calamitous I couldn’t get out of the place fast enough… He’s no longer in business , thankfully. Back to the drawing hair cut drawing board… Next was the fade cut at another hair dresser. Once again I explained what I wanted and showed the photographs. Despite my explicit instructions and the photographs, I ended up with a fade cut. For a man my age I looked ridiculous. I’m not 29 yo any more! Talk about frustrating…. Another fail. Having written many Google Reviews, I started researching other hair dressers. Akoul’s had a consistent 5-star rating, many positive professional comments around technique, approach and expertise as well as personal experiences around kindness, good communication skills and overall approach. So off I went prepared for yet another hair fiasco based on my previous experiences catalogued above…. However, Abdallah, unlike other hairdressers, listened to my simple request and carefully studied the photographs from my phone I provided. He was also sympathetic to my plight of having some pretty awful hair drama as we shall call it. He demonstrated both individual empathy and a broader professional concern. I really felt that he wanted to, in his own way, undo the harm that was done to both me and his profession. As he cut and styled, Abdallah was communicative and friendly; he also explained what he was doing and even asked for my input. How refreshing! Nobody else had done that. Maybe that’s why they failed…. The first cut was a complete success: an almost perfect replication of famous pics and a great overall experience in the chair in terms of being friendly, communicative, thorough, kind, sympathetic and professional. Bravo! I’ve been back several times since my initial visit. We have my cut, which was never very complicated, down to a science after literally two cuts. It just took Abdallah’s talents and abilities to pull it off. Abdallah continues to be professional, caring, kind, capable, sincere and is great at listening, turning your hair vision into a reality with no fuss, no muss - just caring professionalism that deserves positive comments. I truly appreciated his efforts when I was literally close to giving up on ever achieving a simple hair cut that works for me. Thank you! I Have no hesitation to recommend his great hair dressing services.

It’s much closer to my house than where I usually go and I was very happy with the quality of cut I received from Abdallah. You would expect to be a much higher price point than a place like great clips or classic cuts but it was hardly any more at all. I’m very happy with my experience and I will be back

Negative experience: I came to this salon after reading a lot of great reviews, mostly for men’s haircuts. Before booking, I even called to confirm if they do women’s haircuts, and they said yes, so I decided to give it a try since it’s just a 10 mins drive. I came in with high expectations and made it very clear multiple times that I didn’t want my hair length reduced. I even showed reference photos and clearly pointed out how much I wanted trimmed. Unfortunately, I don’t think the stylist (Tatiana I believe is her name) fully understood what I was asking for, and that was apparent from the start. And she did mention that she doesn’t speak much English, Im the last Person who will have a problem with that, but if you are working in an industry where you need to communicate to people to understand what they want, it’s necessary. It felt like my preferences were overlooked, and in the end, the haircut I received looked more like the stylist’s own hairstyle than what I asked for. She cut my hair much much shorter than I requested and thinned it out way more than necessary, which drastically changed the density and look of my hair. I’m someone who styles my hair every day, so I’m not afraid of managing different looks, but this was not what I wanted and not what I was prepared for. Even when I tried to guide her through small corrections, like trimming the front a little more, it felt like she was hesitant and not fully engaged in giving me what I asked for. I left feeling really disappointed and quite honestly, like I’d lost a big part of the style and length I worked so hard to maintain. This salon might still work well for men’s cuts maybe my husband or brother could consider it but for women’s haircuts, especially if you’re particular about style and communication, I personally wouldn’t recommend it. And because I’m a people-pleaser by nature, I didn’t raise a fuss or say anything at the time. I just quietly paid and walked out. But truthfully, I was heartbroken. I think I even cried on the way home because of how much she cut off. It may seem like just a haircut, but for me, it felt like a big loss especially when I’d been so clear about what I wanted.
