MJ's Barber Shop

Positive experience: Normally good as I usually bring my son in for his haircut but the cost went from $20 then up to $30 then the last one was $45 for my son for similar haircut with only about 3-4 months apart between haircuts. My son is now 16

Positive experience: Very friendly but prices seem to be random. Same cut on three occasions and cost in order $25, $20 and yesterday $30. Difficult to query pricing when customers are basically sitting by the counter, which would make it an embarrassing activity. I think a pricing menu should be mandatory to be displayed. Response to the below: Unfortunately in my case it was always the same number 3 clippers. No change. And most barbers have a pricing menu. Please don't take offense, it was only my honest review based on my personal experience.

Negative experience: Certainly. Here's a draft for your review: "I had an awful experience at this barber shop. We sat and waited patiently with my daughter, only to be told at the very last minute that they don't cut girls' hair. There was no communication beforehand, no apology, and the staff were extremely rude about it. The lack of basic customer service and courtesy was shocking. I would not recommend this place to anyone."

Negative experience: Worst hair cut of my life, she missed bits of head with clippers so have long clumps… going to have to go somewhere else and get a buzzcut now. Avoid

Negative experience: One of the worst haircuts I’ve ever had. No shaping or blending just full on shaved one half of my head - I look like a radish. 25 years she said she’s been doing it, Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder could have done a better job.

Fantastic experience: Fantastic staff! The barber who gave me a haircut did an excellent job with a little trim after my holiday. The price was reasonable, in my opinion. However, one annoying aspect is that there's no website. It would be great if they could have a website for online bookings, even though it might be costly. Overall, fantastic staff and a great experience.

Negative experience: When I requested to give a quick clean the chair and the gown which were full off hair from the previous cuts; the lady said no straight away. Didn't even bother to give the gown a shake. Complete nuisance when it comes to hygiene and health and safety. Not a tidy kiwi.

Fantastic experience: Great barber. Nearly a Napier institution. The shop layout is amusing the barbers Peter. Rossy and MJ are good at what they they are friendly and the prices are fair. They look after everyone. Small children will be comfortable slightly older kids can get their unique cuts too. Older gents are looked after very well right down to hot flannel at the end. If you have hair then this is the barbershop for you. MJ is now the boss new owner. She has begun to put her own stamp on the interior and on staff aprons and developed a brand Great job.
