Expérience négative: I saw the reviews for this place and was excited to check it out. I had long hair after growing it for a couple months, so I was ready for a summer style. I wanted a mid fade, blended high, with enough to style a bit at the top. He asked which side I usually comb my hair over to. This doesn’t make any sense. Why does it matter? Hair styles should be versatile. What I ended up with was asymmetrical. So I can now only style it to one side. The blend was very messy and he did not do the cut to accommodate the way it naturally falls. So now, without product (which I prefer not to use) my hair looks like a spiky mess. In my experience, if a barber tells you “you’ll just need to put some product in it” that means your haircut is bad. Will definitely not be returning unfortunately. EDIT: The next day I went to another hairdresser and he was SHOCKED at how bad the cut was. Shout out to Misako Hair Studio for saving my hair.

From the moment I walked in, the vibe was on point: good music, great atmosphere, and a genuinely friendly team. Everyone seemed happy to be there and excited about what they do, which says a lot. I booked with Mike, and it was a great experience start to finish. We had solid communication before and during the cut—talked about what I was looking for, what works best for me, and even shared a bit about where we’re both from. Easy, natural conversation, which made the whole experience even better. Mike’s work is detailed, precise, and thoughtful. He really takes his time, checks in, and makes sure everything looks right. You can tell he’s skilled, careful, and takes pride in his craft. Clean cuts, sharp scissors work, and overall just solid barbering. Everyone at the shop seems great, but since I personally worked with Mike, I highly recommend him. That said, the whole team looks strong—I just went with him and he absolutely delivered. If you’re in Gastown and looking for a quality cut, hit up A1 Barber and ask for Mike. You’ll be in good hands.

Expérience négative: One of the most incompetent and unreliable barber in Vancouver. Booked with Deniz online for 3:45 p.m. on the 4th of December 2025. And it was confirmed on both email and SMS. Got a call at 2:45 p.m. and asked if I could show up in between 5 to 10 minutes to have a haircut. Then he said he won’t be able to accommodate me at 3:45 pm anymore or I have to come at 4:30 instead. How could this possibly be? Extremely unprofessional. I do not recommend this place. Please spend your money elsewhere.

On the first hair cut with Deniz, I left with a recommendation for adjusting my hair style, which my previous barber hadn’t mentioned in the 3 years that I’d bein going to her. Mike listened very closely during the second haircut. He applied my thoughts regarding how I wanted to adjust my style only slightly in preparation for a big trip while also keeping options open for a major style change the next time around. (It was sponsored, but whatever.) Booked Luke, and when I pulled up, he was very welcoming. I just needed a mid taper on the sides and a low taper in the back. He did exactly what I needed, and suggested a couple of other trims to keep everything looking nice and neat. Got my hair washed as well towards the end. Would definitely recommend Luke for a haircut. Great quality and service for an amazing price.

They refused service saying they didn’t have space and couldn’t store the bags outside the closet because “they might get hair on the suitcase”. Guaranteed storage and then left me with no place to keep my bags for 5 hours before my flight. Ruined my chance to explore the city. Rude at the store as well.
