Experiencia negativa: After years of being a loyal and consistent customer booking a haircut every 2 weeks, the shop manager sends me an email saying they won't book appointments with me any longer. As a business owner of a startup and a father of 3, I admit day of cancellations have occurred. But the fact this shop manager is willing to affect the book of business of one of their senior stylists and not allow her to book appointments for me any longer leaves me speechless. The stylists are top-notch at Rock's but I would highly recommend not giving Rock's your business. Email is attached showing you how they could care less. By the way, their system won't let you reschedule and it's offline half the time.

Experiencia fantástica: the place and staff are all great. so is the music selection. i don't drink much but the bar selection is formidable. however, the five-star rating comes from how great mel is. she is, as all the folks at rock's are, a true professional. but she is also a joy to hang out with whike you're getting your hair chopped. i'd recommend anyone at rock's, but mel just a little more.

This is without a doubt the best barbershop in Durham, and I will go out on a limb and say the best barbershop in NC. The environment is upbeat and inviting but never in your face. I have been to plenty of shops that try to pull off an elevated barber experience, and something is always off. Rock's nailed it, from the music selection to the bar offerings, the website experience, booking and payment, and of course the cut. I get a high skin fade every time I get a haircut, for the last 10 years. There are people who know what a fade is in theory, and then there are true practitioners of the craft. Reek, The Barber, gave a masterclass. Thank you so much. Your attention to detail and calm, steady approach left me feeling comfortable and at ease, especially for my first visit. By the end of the cut I had complete trust, and I will be back in two weeks. The service I booked came with a wash, gentle styling, and a complimentary drink. For the price, the experience, the vibes, and the service, it is absolutely worth it. Stop searching. Trust the reviews. Book an appointment. You will be very pleased with the service you receive. Her haircuts are ALWAYS on point and her attention to detail is exceptional. If you’re looking for a fade in the Triangle then look no further. If that’s the kind of results I get when they have a calendar, best not to see what they can do with a pair of scissors.

Jenna is great, very attentive to your needs and personable/friendly. I always looked forward to my haircuts because of her. I highly recommend Jenna! The shop staff are also very nice and welcoming.

I was wanting to try a new style and was hoping for some professional and personalized suggestions, and that is exactly what I got. My stylist, Rock, took their time to discuss my options with me, and other stylists (Rachael and Tyee) were also happy to provide insight. I really appreciated how caring, thoughtful, and validating Rock and the other stylists were—I had walked in there feeling nervous, but left feeling confident. Many reviews mention this place being “expensive”, but I would have to disagree. For $35, I got a cut, style, wash/shampoo, and a pint of craft beer. I had previously gone to GreatClips, and a cut always cost me $25 with tip. The wash, beer, and professional yet warm/caring treatment are more than worth the extra $10. Also, the atmosphere of Rocks itself was very cool, which added to the experience. If all you want is a quick, basic cut for as cheap as possible, go to GreatClips. But if you want to get professional insight on new styles, to be treated with warmth and care, or to get anything beyond a simple trim, go to Rock’s.

Everyone there was super helpful and kind, The haircut was exceptional, I had long hair and decided to get it cut short, it turned out great and I'm super happy with the way it looks! My hair can be very difficult to cut correctly, and she absolutely nailed it. She will be cutting my hair for as long as she works here. Also, for anyone that doesn't drink and isn't sure about the complimentary beer, I simply told them I wasn't interested, and it was perfectly fine, no pressure whatsoever.

Plus there's beer (a free small pour, probably like 8-10oz) with your haircut. It's a great location, right across the street from the Corcoran street parking deck, so it's really easy to get to. Get an early one and you can even park on the street right outside.

Mel Listens to what I want and knows how to do it. I told her I wanted it to look like Brad Pitt's hair and she told me well she can cut my hair but she couldn't help me with the rest of it. I get a monthly haircut and a beard trim on she charged me 55 bucks and I give her at least 10 bucks tip depending on my mood. I've been going there for about a year

Prices are too high for the quality of the haircut, and the service has noticeably diminished over the years. For reference, I do prefer a scissor cut, this seems to be a tall request for anyone who is not a master stylist here (scam alert, they want you to pay for the tip top service). TLDR; go elsewhere friends!

(really, truly a customer service miracle) I've met one other outside of Rocks that can manage that. Experiencia fantástica: This was my first time visiting Rock’s as I’m new to Durham. I am usually skeptical about hair salons or barber shops. Not because I am particularly precious about how my hair is cut, because it can sometimes be awkward. Is my hair cut too long for a traditional male-oriented barber shop or too short for a hair salon that is used to long feminine cuts? After some research, I felt that Rock’s was a good balance. Sailor cut my hair, and not only did they do a great job on the cut, they were enjoyable to interact with. I wasn’t met with the standard “so ya married? So do ya have kids? So do you watch Game of Thrones?” banter you too often encounter from a hair stylist. The experience was genuine, approachable, and accepting. There was diverse clientele and diverse staff. Most patrons should feel like they are in good hands here for their hair cut. In short: I got a free beer (cool), we talked about Durham, cults, weird horror movies, and I got a good haircut without having to provide too much superfluous information or instruction. I showed Sailor a photo and said “I want this please” and that was it. I’ll be back.

Yeah, you might need to schedule a week or two out. I get it...as a man you're used to walking into a barber shop and getting chopped up same day. Just stop. Appreciate your awful whorls and hairline and let a professional take care of you. Also grab a beer. Your head is crying out for help, so maybe take some time to listen.

I honestly don’t think I have ever gotten a better haircut in the past than when Tony cut my hair in December. The second time, I scheduled with Tony again and told him that I was graduating soon and wanted to look good for graduation pictures. He took great care and even offered that if I needed a touch up coming up to graduation day, to just pop in and he’ll touch it up quick. Of course, I didn’t need to since he did such a great job, but his offer shows a great act of kindness and care in his work. Thank you!

Experiencia negativa: The worst haircut of my life which was a buzz cut. And one would think, how could you mess up a buzz cut well she did. The shop is in a nice location and it’s very clean. The staff seem very friendly; it was my first time there. I moved to the area and in search of a barber so I researched and decided to give this a try; big mistake. The barber was Lala, saw some of her work on Instagram and thought, it’s a buzz cut. I learn the hard way not every barber are detail oriented. I said I wanted soft lines and she gave me an uneven shape up in the front and nothing in the back. And a spot in the front. She seemed nonchalant when cutting my hair but she mentioned that she had be cutting for 9 years so I thought maybe that’s her style…. Well my hair came out nonchalant. I would have shaved it but it’s too cold to go bald so I will be wearing loads of hats to cover and grow it out. It’s a hard NO for me but good luck. Experiencia fantástica: This eclectic joint has a pet-friendly environment with a bar. My husband and son have frequented Rock's over the years but this is my first experience. I had long hair for 28 years until I underwent chemotherapy. Now that my hair is growing back, I have decided to keep it short. I have anxiety about getting it cut and felt much better after Ashleigh got done. She did an excellent job in under ten minutes and handled my anxiety and my inability to articulate what I wanted with patience and professionalism.

Experiencia negativa: At least the 3rd time that my appointment was canceled last minute. I chose to reschedule the other 2-3 times, but I am no longer willing to continue this trend. I expressed the same and overall disappointment. I understand emergencies occur and that is the very definition of an emergency and I understand staff working full time and limited alternatives. I too work full time with limited options myself. I will have to find somewhere else going forward.

Some stylists are not as skilled with certain cuts as others, even though you may find that the stylist that's better with your specific haircut charges less than others

Experiencia negativa: Have gone here in and off for a few years. Good cuts and I like their beer selection. Only came here to review because my fiancé started to follow one of their stylists “sailor” on social media. This stylist shares a lot of really rude things about the customers on their public Instagram and TikTok’s and also is constantly complaining about customers and their requests. I used to recommend rocks to my friends and coworkers but after seeing the attitudes of the people they employ I won’t do that anymore. Why would you want someone rude, hateful, and mocking touching your face and hair? Bad look. Don’t go here or at least avoid this terrible and mean person!

Experiencia fantástica: Hands down my favorite barbershop in town! Specifically, I always go to Gavin to get my mohawk done right. Not only is he friendly and great to chat with, he is also a wizard of precision and style. The hawk always comes out looking good when I step out of his chair. I've also gotten haircuts from the other stylists when I can't get a slot with Gavin and they've all been wonderful. Highly recommend this spot if you're looking for a quality cut!

Issues I have 1) They put the rainbow flag up on display as if they are a progressive company BUT they make all their barbers sign NON COMPETES ...so basically they can not open a barber shop within Durham city limits...the owner now has a monopoly on barber shops downtown, while keeping her barbers down...unable to open their own establishment. 2) They charge at a MINIMUM $40 a haircut....in DURHAM!! Again, this is due to the owner having a monopoly.... 3) Haircuts are not worth the price.....SOLUTION ...I found a barber shop ...solid traditional barbershop called Hyde park up by Duke...$20 haircuts...solid guys....highly recommend...STOP SUPPORTING a poser progressive company capitalizing on employees being legally bound ...awful awful company....
