Fantastic experience: Today was my first visit to HoS - Riverside - Great Experience! Had an appointment with Emily for First Time Premium Beard Grooming and Classic Haircut. Prime reason for trying HoS was to get a professional beard grooming. I’ve found places that say they know beards and agree to the style I’m wanting but the results fall short at best. I’m not one to normally leave reviews but Emily took the time to understand what I was looking for and not only listened but performed! She corrected old barbers mistakes and I now have the beard style I wanted. And the Premium Beard Grooming is a must try at least once! I’m a bit follically challenged which usually relates to a 5-min cut with the clippers - not today. Emily gave me one of my best haircuts in years and nothing beats a razor finish. Emily- Thanks for the experience, awesome haircut and the beard style I’ve been looking for. See ya next month:)

Fantastic experience: Alex F. Was exemplary. After a quick consult I was given exactly... Exactly what I was looking for. Deft hands and quite detailed with the straight razor. Very glad that I booked my appointment at Riverside for today. I will be back to this location and hopefully with Alex again soon. As you can see I came in looking like a total scrub, I left with a proper cut and straight razor. Very impressed very happy.

Negative experience: Used to be an absolute ritual going regularly with a membership, Rae was their best Barber and one of the best I’ve ever met. Due to mismanagement they lost her. Gave them one final shot and Emily cut out a huge piece of my face with a razor. Normally I wait to leave a review until something goes wrong, and when something did, the owner immediately reached out and made everything right. That kind of top-tier service says a lot. I usually see Alex F. at the Riverside location, and he delivers every single time. I also signed up for their membership service, which lets me come in twice a week—it’s been well worth it. Even on days when I can’t get in with my regular barber, I have full confidence in the rest of the team at Riverside. Great service, great atmosphere, and great people. Highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: If you go to riverside ask for Alex! He offered us advice on hair and beard styling based on how our hair grows. Most places just ask how you want it and cut and that's it. Hot towel steam and blade shave is always nice and relaxing as well. Have had Nani the last few times and she is also great. She cuts mine and (she calls him my baby boy) my son's hair and we are always pleased.

Positive experience: Perspective of a Jax Native: Three Stars. I appreciate the manager's updated response, at first it was an automated message. Based off the reply, I would just expect better communication. I wanted to use this location as my go to barber since it is close to work but so far the scheduling experience has been poor. After three successful haircuts I thought I found a new regular barber. Then I experienced an awkward moment where I was scheduled the incorrect barber. Then the second time the new barber never added me on the books in the system. The bigger issue is if my business wasn't valuable enough to get it right the first time or second time. Why would I care if its valuable enough after I left a review? It feels like its too late to convince me to come back. I already was made to feel awkward enough by the staff due to the scheduling issues. Haircuts are like eating out. I don't want any conflicts with the person cutting my hair. I been in Jax my whole life and this city is not known for its barber scene. Its difficult in Jax to find a decent barber you can rely on and trust for consistency. All of the great barbers at commercial locations are usually booked full with clients, or they are low key, and not in a typical brick and mortar. House of Shaves offers the facade of a neighborhood in Chicago or a similarly HCOL area. You expext to walk inside, be greeted, just another familiar face in the neighborhood. Maybe grab a drink while you wait. Or its a Saturday in Miami Beach, House of Shaves, the cleanest cut on the boardwalk, they always take care of their customers. But in reality, its Jacksonville, tucked away off the side of a parking garage near riverside avenue. The barbers don't remember you despite scheduling with them a couple times now. They don't remember your name, your face, what kind of haircut you like. Not even notes in a system so at least you mattered as an ID in their database. You're a tip in their tip jar to temporarily put up with. Looks like they scheduled you incorrectly, it was supposed to be at 1, but we actually booked you for 2. No apologies, no offering for a drink, just an "oopsie" face to add to my sub par service with a "big city" price tag. A common theme I am noticing for Duval City.

Negative experience: Got my first haircut there last week! Worse haircut ever in my life. I had a long curly hair and wanted a little trim, I was super specific and showed her an old pic. My barber ended up butchering the front part, curled ended up being un even and not blended. Towards the end I felt she rushed (bcz other clients were waiting and it as only her) and the back of my head now got longer hair than the front (disaster)! I asked her many times before what I wanted and showed her a pic yet ended up with a mess. I’m gonna wait for a week or two then go somewhere for retouch. But I really hated this cut. Plz be careful with people hair especially if you cut it first time.

Fantastic experience: House of Shaves is the first Barbershop I’ve been to and it is just the best. Their shop is always welcoming, and the ambiance is chill and filled with good vibes. The part of it all is that it won’t matter which barber you choose because you will walk out of there with a great haircut. The price is very reasonable and they also have a membership program so you can save more.

Negative experience: What an odd experience! I’m not from the area but wanted a haircut before going offshore for a month. The reviews looked great and I was in the area so made an appointment easily. Parking was easy. The place is comfortable and relaxing until I sat in the chair. Emily cut my hair and she either had a ton of coffee or something stronger. The clippers were literally bouncing off of my head the entire time. She was twitchy and her pupils were pinpricks. My hair was left choppy and uneven down the entire side. I would not repeat.

My hands shale due to one of my auto immune conditions. As for my pupils all of our barber stations are outfitted with both a ring light and bar lighting - standing under or in front of them will cause pupils to naturally constrict especially for a barber who wears glasses. Fantastic experience: I took my son there for his graduation and his first razor shave. In a course I got one while I was there. Most excellent service. Is the staff goes above and beyond. I recommend anyone who's never had a razor shave go there and get one.

Fantastic experience: I had a wonderful experience here! From first walking in, I was immediately greeted and checked in by such friendly people. In almost no time at all, I was seated in the barber seat. My barber, Bri, was absolutely fantastic. When I came in, I had a general idea of what I wanted, but I wasn't sure of exactly what I wanted to do. She gave me her expert opinion on what we could go with- explaining everything to me in detail, and I couldn't have been happier with the outcome!! For over a year, I have been looking for a barber shop, and I have gone to multiple places, but up until now, I hadn't found somewhere I was genuinely pleased with. House of Shaves, however, was absolutely fantastic, from the cleanliness of the shop to the wonderful and skilled people working there. I will certainly be going back again for my next haircut! 10/10
