Royal Cut

Negative experience: I’ve never been there before. I will preface that. I called to ask a couple questions and he answered and then hung up. Seemed like he was busy. I thought we got disconnected initially. I called back to ask one more question and before I could get the whole question out he said just come in, we do everything.. and then hung up. Unfortunately I will not be going there. There are so many options.. where is the customer service now a days.

Positive experience: Wish I saw the reviews before going there. I'm sure some people who work here are amazing but maybe I got unlucky. I don't usually complain about haircuts cause it's just hair and it will grow back in a couple of weeks. But man...I go in the store and there's one guy just there sitting. I say hello but no response. Then he moves to the chair and ask for what I want. I show him a picture and he says he got it...the whole time I am facing away from the mirror and when it's done it was nothing like the image I showed. 3 star is being generous here. I wish the employee would take their time understanding what the customer wants. He also shaved part of my beard that he didn't have to...not sure if that was on purpose or not.

Negative experience: I have been here many times, but this past week I went and got a scalp infection from them using dirty razors. They need to do better because they’re messing with people‘s health and safety.

Negative experience: If I could give this place zero stars I would. I take my hair very seriously. The barber was professional but the service on the hand was terrible. I asked for a taper and it looked liked he just shaved it bald and then on top of that he pushed my hairline back, like how is the beard better faded, but my beard was still uneven too. I don’t even recommend coming to this place because you’ll be paying 50 bucks to get your hairline pushed back. I posted pic where I have an actual good haircut and compare it to a horrible one. Henry pls do better.

It doesn’t matter the type of hair you have, they will do a great job. Just tell them what you want, and they’ll do it. Very friendly staff too, and easy to talk to. Feels like an old school barber shop. If you love sports, you can also talk about sports with them as much as you want. Give them a try, you will not be disappointed!

Negative experience: I came in for a haircut and encountered a rude barber who refused to listen, stopped the haircut halfway through, he and sent me away without finishing the job. I definitely don’t recommend this place. Maybe they give nice haircuts, but their customer service is absolutely terrible.

Positive experience: Our barber, Monty, does a GREAT job. He cuts my Son’s Hair, who’s wheelchair bound, and even puts a little flourish in his hair that he loves. The atmosphere is classic, sports talk, etc. and it makes you feel welcomed. The shop is the best in Ann Arbor, and Monty is the best!! I gave them 4 stars, which is the best I award, and left a little room for continuous to improvement!!!

Positive experience: Nice place. Guy did a great job on my kids haircuts 30 for a kids cut is a bit pricey but for a last minute walk in for two 9 yr olds , I expected it. They don't take credit/debit cards and having to stand there and cash app the money was a little inconvenient. Overall a nice place and I'd recommend going.

Negative experience: My husband took my son for them both to get haircuts ahead of an event. They did a decent job with my husband’s hair. But before that they ruined my son’s hair. The stylist didn’t listen to what my husband asked and had the trimmer on the wrong setting. He was using his phone while he did it. He ended up giving my son a buzz cut. We paid $30 for a buzz cut. And he didn’t even even the front. Unacceptable quality of work. We won’t be back.

Fantastic experience: Manny has to be hands down one of the best barbers in Ann Arbor, to say the least. He’s understanding, takes his time, and is precise with everything he single-cuts. He knows what he is doing. I would 100% recommend Manny as your barber; he will never disappoint!

Fantastic experience: I got a great wave taper from Monty, the line up was crisp too. I have mixed hair texture so some barbers struggle a bit to really get my haircuts right but he definitely knew what he was doing.

Negative experience: The barber did a great job but when it was time to check out, they required a cash app. So my bank is connected with Zelle. I sent the payment over using Zelle and the owner or manager or whoever it was was frustrated because the payment didn’t post right away. I checked my app and it had posted to my account so the money was transferred. He insisted he did not receive his money Yelling at me cursing at me cursed my mother said he wanted his money. I explained that it should post shortly. It posted to my account and showed him on my phone to prove it. He still was irate blocking the door so I couldn’t leave insulting me the entire time. I would not recommend this barbershop to anybody. Terrible service by a terrible owner.

Fantastic experience: I'm an entertainer that travels extensively doing basketball halftime shows ... and found myself in Ann Arbor, MI with my hair getting a little funky around the edges. So I walked into Royal Cut, not knowing if they were going to make me look showbiz handsome or totally mess up my head. Thankfully, Monty waved me over, asked me what I wanted, and then did his magic. Professional, detail oriented and reasonably priced. Simon Sez ... That's what I'm talking about! Highly recommended.

Fantastic experience: This is my 3rd time coming into royal cut. Iv tried multiple barber shops in the past and not a single barber comes remotely close to Manny. The first time Manny cut my hair, I told him to do whatever he thought would be best, and I trusted him. His experience showed beyond anything I was expecting. This trip 3rd trip ABSOLUTLEY BLEW ME AWAY. The amount of detail Manny provides IS ABSOLUTLY MIND BLOWING! You can tell this is more than a job for Manny, it's a PASSION. This man is the definition of what a true barber should be. If your thinking about coming in, think no more and ask for "MANNY". You WILL NOT regret it!!

Negative experience: I got a haircut and beard trim from Ismael or esmael if I am pronouncing it wrong sorry in advance. He messed up my beard, moustache and hair all three things together. I asked him for a fade with the picture I had of myself to which he confidently said ‘ I got this’ Well apparently he didn't, and screwed up big time. Probably the worst haircut I got in my life so far until someone topples it. He turned the chair to the other side and I couldn’t see my haircut or anything until he finished and was like I am done. Seeing the aftermath of the shitery done on me like “ irregular beard line, no fade and over reduced moustache” I told him to fix it to which he tried to, but unfortunately couldn’t and later shut me up by saying its closing time and he has to go like dude only if you did your job properly I care less when you can stay or go and later tells me he knows what to do for next time. Bud there is no next time. I had a horrible experience and wouldn’t recommend him anyone. The reviews here are skewed towards 1 or 2 barbers only from which I didn’t get an opportunity cut from them, but it takes one time to make or break customer and wont be returning for sure! Positive experience: We were in town from out of state for a reunion and my guy hadn't had time to get a haircut and beard trim beforehand, so I looked up places not far from the Briarwood part of A2 where we were staying, and this place was the closest that had walk-ins, plus lots if good reviews. It was a very pleasant and friendly space with a neighborhood feeling, though we had a little trouble finding it--it was in a small shopping plaza tucked in back of a gas or auto service business, and next to a Korean food store. Service was fast and my partner got a pretty nice cut. Price was in line with what he would pay at home. We were just glad to find a decent place so last minute and we liked the people.

Negative experience: I moved back to the area and was looking for a good barber to cut my son’s hair. Royal cuts had good reviews, so I gave them a chance. Had an appointment and they were on time. Had the younger guy that was the 2nd or 3rd chair from the door cut his hair. Asked for a medium fade and he forgot the fade. I even showed him a picture of a previous hair cut. Overall it was one of the worst haircuts I’ve seen. After I gave him a chance to fix it, I realized this guy shouldn’t have clippers in his hand and decided to cut my losses and went elsewhere to have it fixed.

Negative experience: Henry seemed to get offended that our preference was an African-American barber for my AA child. I share a similar experience as Sharda Taylor and other reviews below. Henry was very rude and unprofessional!

Negative experience: Me and my son have gone to Royal Cuts for several years. But today will be my last visit. Owner Manny is awesome. But I decided to go to barber Henry for a haircut, only to have my hairline unevenly cut. Asked politely if he could fix it to only be told I was "being difficult," and lectured on the difference between black and middle eastern hair. There was ABSOLUTELY no need to make the conversation racial. Worst service I've ever received AFTER tipping $15. The owner apologized but Henry's professionalism is far below standard.

Negative experience: I cannot express how disappointed and angry I am with my sons hair cuts!! 1st, I asked for a low fade for my youngest, whom has very light baby hairs in the front. The barber stated he should get a "taper", which I'm not totally sure what the difference was, but what made be skeptical was his comment that "he's more comfortable doing tappers on thinner hair. I also told him that I like the sides linked but he says he cannot do that because of the hair. Due to his comments, I asked if he was familiar with African American hair, and he says that he has TOP reviews and the best in the shop. I've been to this shop 2 or 3 times and the gentleman in the 1st chair is usually the go-to for locals in the shop and today absolutely no one else was there. I was fine to check out a new barber because the "popular guy" Is not friendly at all!! There is nooo welcoming aspect for people here in my opinion, no Hi, no Welcome, no nothing! Anyway, I gave this barber a try and he pushed my sons hair line back sooo far I wanted to cry! It is crooked, oddly shaped and i had to ask him to blend in the back because he left it bowl-cut looking! I was soo disappointed! I definitely do not recommend especially for $30 for a 10 year hair cut. I honestly felt like I was being punked! If you cannot properly cut African American hair, please be honest

Fantastic experience: I took my son and my god son in today for a haircut. I’ve been here before but today the boys ended up seeing a barber that hasn’t cut their hair yet so I was a little nervous… his name was Manny and when I say he did a VERY Great job on the kid’s hair!!! Especially my 8 year old I get his haircut regularly and in my opinion this is the best haircut he’s ever had and it really surprised me!!! Negative experience: Advertised as a unisex shop but thats not accurate. Waited 30 minutes for an appointment made for a cut for my daughter and a trim for myself, which I clearly stated on the phone. My daughter wanted a really short cut so it should have been a non issue but barber was unwilling to do the cut and then suggested I ask the other barber. Feels like a waste of time and gas to be told that they are actually unable to do a cut. There is no reason to gender a short cut for a kid, but even more so the barber should state ON THE CALL when making an appointment what their limitations are.

Negative experience: My experience was not good. After I waited patiently to get a cut when I got off a 10 hour shift they allowed people to go after me. Still waiting patiently and quietly once I was able to get in the chair the barber was so aggressive and when I tried to nicely bring it to his attention it was like he got upset with me (the barber in the far back chair on the left side when walking in). Lol, he cut my hair so quick I had never been in a barber chair for 10mins. He definitely did a rush job and was rude like he didn't want to give me a cut, I wasn't satisfied with his services, but I still paid him and didn't complain because I figured he was having a bad day. I will just say I don't ever want a cut from him again.

Fantastic experience: My experience at Royal Cuts has always been great! There is a lot of parking, great location, the shop is open as early as 8 a.m, and the barbers are always professional. They always provide quick and fast service. The shop is clean and kid friendly they're flat screen TVs at every barbers station, pool table to play pool while you wait and the shop has WiFi in case you want to bring a tablet while you wait. Manny is one of the Best barbers there. However, if he is not there ask for Henry and he will help take care of you as well. -Rod

Fantastic experience: best shop to get a cut in all of the Ypsi/Ann Arbor area. Affordable, high quality, and a great atmosphere for everyone. Always a good time there, especially when you beat them in pool and they have to do pushups. Gotten my hair cut by Manny and Henry who are both the best barbers I’ve ever had, but i know that anyone in the shop will take care of you and give you a good cut.
