Given I have straight hair and it flows a certain way I usually ask just to shorten it. In my experience with barbers in general at times they will get the flow/curl of my hair at the front wrong but in all honesty that hasn’t happened with any of the barber’s I’ve had. Almost fell asleep once while they were washing my hair.
