Experiencia negativa: I recently visited this barbershop for the first time, and unfortunately, it was a very disappointing experience. My assigned barber was Alex. My haircut was only two weeks old and still fully in shape, so I specifically asked for a refresh to keep the same model, clean up the bottom with a low to mid fade, lightly trim the sides, and take about half an inch off the top with some texture added. I was very clear that I wanted to maintain the existing shape, just freshened up. Halfway through the cut, I noticed in the mirror that the longer sections on the sides which only needed minor trimming had been completely shaved off. Almost all of the length was gone. I calmly mentioned that this wasn’t what I had asked for and that I only wanted a refresh while keeping the model. The barber responded by saying, “That’s how we cut hair here in the United States, it will grow back. He then offered a discount and said he wouldn’t cut the top. However, since the sides had already been shaved so short, leaving the top untouched would have made the haircut look even more unbalanced. When I asked him to fix the top to make it proportional, he initially refused and told me I was being “too specific” with my requests, even though my instructions were very straightforward. I then asked if the owner, who was standing nearby, could finish the top, and I made it clear I was willing to pay the full price (or more). Only then did he agree to continue. Unfortunately, the top was not done as requested either. Instead of carefully trimming with scissors and adding texture, he used clippers to randomly cut into longer sections. He also combed my hair forward and cut a straight line across my forehead, despite me clearly asking for a textured finish. The result does not reflect what I asked for and significantly altered the original style I wanted to maintain. Overall, I did not feel heard, and the final result was far from the simple refresh I requested. When I came home I noticed that he did a mid fade on the left and a high fade on the right, this when I requested a low to mid fade. This barber was very unprofessional and unfriendly.

The folks here were really kind and hospitable. I didn’t wait too long and they offered refreshments while I waited. Alex gave me a wicked line up and was receptive to how I wanted my haircut. Ambience is 10/10. Finding parking around the area also wasn’t okay. Great spot overall! And a fair price

Experiencia negativa: My brother got a taper and got over charged for a just because he’s young and was there alone. They made him pay 66$ for a taper. We called asked how much a taper was and was told 45$, even though it’s still a crazy price this is ridiculous.

I’ve been going to Tenzin recently and he does a great fade and straight razor shave. The atmosphere is great and price is reasonable. This is now my go to barber shop in Oakland.

Super friendly and totally aware that I’m Deaf he was really open to communicating through body language, gestures, and even writing back and forth using the Notes app, which made me feel super comfortable. He also had a great eye and figured out a haircut that suits me perfectly. I’ll definitely be back and will be asking for Tenzin again! Charles was also very warm and welcoming I really appreciated his kind energy and awareness as well. The whole environment was clean, calm, and really pleasant. Loved the entire experience!

Experiencia negativa: This is not the best barbershop, haircut not perfect all the time. Rushing my haircut, it was still more time left ($50 for 20mins? That's crazy) and didn't ask me this time if I want gel on my hair or hot towel. That's why I don't always tip. When they know you don't tip they give you different vibe. Money talk, they pick and choose who they want to be special too. Not 100 % professional, treat everyone the same no matter where they come from, they don't really care for you. If you know you give your clients bad haircut don't charge them too much. Your signature haircut is not even worth $50 it should be $25 instead...Treat us like you treat those birds outside...

Experiencia fantástica: Asked for a simple 2 taper on the sides and cropped volume on top for some texture and shape — you’ll be surprised how many barbers get a simple cut wrong. Michael gave me the only haircut I’ve been happy with right after the barber for the past year. Such a hospitable and fun guy, in fact everyone there was so nice and charming. Left the barber with a skip in my step; skipping back to the salon as soon as the hair looks muggy again. This place won’t dissappoint!

He used rose water to wet my hair, so I smell great, gave me a hot towel wipe down and got me in and out quick. The shop was buzzing when I walked in but the vibe was mellow. You can tell every person there is in rhythm and knows what they're doing because everything is maintained to the tiniest detail. Will definitely be going back.

Experiencia fantástica: I can’t believe Charles Blades has been there for 17 years and I didn’t know it. I have been searching for a solid barber experience in Oakland for a while. Definitely found it and my barber. I booked with Alejandro on a Sunday- also great bc most shops aren’t open Sundays. Ale was welcoming, asked me how I wanted my cut exactly, and took his time to show me so I would be happy with his work. Had good conversation about local stuff, sports, news, etc.. Ale gave me a straight razor shave and did an excellent job. No bleeding, skin is soft now and feels clean. Especially loved the hot eucalyptus towel at the end. A great luxury experience to relax after a long gnarly work week. In and out in an hour. Alejandro was mellow, easy going and kind. He thanked me several times for being a guest. I really respect that as a professional hotel executive. Service matters to me so much. Haircut looks fresh and clean - i left feeling great. Like a new man. Exactly what I needed. In between the eucalyptus hot towel and the precision with the razor blade on it. This place has such an ambience and leaves you with such a great impression that it makes one wonder where have they been all my life. I just happened to be in the area and I was able to call them for a walk-in. They were friendly from the start and they way they treated their other customers show they care about service for people of all ages. I’m blessed to have met Charles and Alejandro and I hope they keep up with their amazing work.

Experiencia negativa: Got haircut done by James. Not impressed at all. My style is quite simple. 5 on the top down to a 1 on the sides and back. Got nicked in the back of the neck twice. 1st time stung and I let him know that it hurt. Said he never heard his clients complain about that clipper before. Congratulations? What am I supposed to say to that? Second time left the mark seen in the pic below. Hairline in the front is completely uneven with chunks at the front missing. Didn’t notice full effect until I got home. **EDIT** Response to owner: I honestly could care less how many 5 star reviews he had from how many different people. I'm not those people. My review reflects my own experience. The results speak for themselves and the pictures I posted speak volumes. A commitment to customer satisfaction is one that strives to provide quality service to every customer. Keep your money on James, you won't be getting it from me.

Super friendly barbers that really know the city and can give great recs on music and food. usually playing some chill jazz music on speakers which is always nice But most importantly they give a great haircut. While expensive, their Cut and Shave is fantastic with a hot towel and close shave which leaves you feeling quite refreshed and looking sharp. Only downside as I mentioned is the price which is certainly not cheap but if you can afford it, definitely a great spot to be.

Beer, whiskey, water or whatever tickles your fancy is available while you wait. I personally go to James, he’s top tier and even cut my hair after hours. I moved down to Monterey and after a few attempts to find a comparable cut, I am resigned to trips back to the Bay for haircuts. It's absolutely worth it, especially with the expertise that Karen offers. Karen is down to earth and offers wonderful company and a phenomenal cut. I gave Karen a vague description of what I wanted and got the exact asymmetrical cut I was hoping for with check ins along the way to ensure we were on the same page. Karen does crisp fades and I have never been happier with my undercut. I appreciate that the staff is covid conscious because it makes the environment in the shop much more comfortable. Charles Blades has a rad crew who offers warm welcomes and excellent cuts. It's easy to call or book an appointment online and the ample parking nearby makes it a seamless trip.

Every barber I have seen working there looks just how you would want them to, stylish as hell. They all do incredible work from what I’ve seen. I’ve had my hair cut by Karen twice and they were the best two haircuts of my life. After decades of cheap mediocre haircuts, Karen’s first cut made me feel great right out of the shop. It grew out wonderfully for months and after the second cut I can honestly say my hair has never looked better. GO HERE! If that isn’t enough, there is a cold beer waiting for you when you arrive.

Experiencia negativa: Stay away if you value your time. I had an appointment with SHO. My experience was straight out of a Seinfeld episode. They know how to take the reservation, you just don't know how to *hold* the reservation and that's really the most important part of the reservation. It took them half an hour *after* my appointment time to tell me there is another guy in front of me.

Experiencia fantástica: I took my boys to get hair cuts ... It was a great experience and my boys were very comfortable and excited about the hair grooming process. Charles has the ability to connect with my family and it’s very important that my children feel welcomed. The space is clean, diverse and the owner practices social distancing for Covid safety. The atmosphere has a family, zen, rustage, jazz feel to it. It’s a permanent place and comfort zone for my 3 teenage boys. They love the energy and connection to the barber.
