Fantastic experience: Barber took his time and listened to my request.

Negative experience: I had a very poor experience at Hudson Hawk, and I do not recommend this barbershop. From the start, everything felt extremely rushed. During the blending behind my ears, the barber nicked me almost immediately, and it hurt enough that I said “ouch” out loud. While they lightened up slightly after that, they continued to use excessive pressure with both the clippers and the trimmers. When lining me up, the trimmers were pressed so hard against my skin that it felt more like scratching than shaping. The pressure was uncomfortable and unnecessary, and at no point did it feel careful or professional. The shampoo portion was just as rushed. Shampoo was applied, scrubbed for what felt like only a few seconds, and then immediately rinsed out. There was no conditioner or follow-up care at all—it felt incomplete and careless. To make matters worse, I genuinely do not like the haircut itself. The cut does not look good, and the overall experience left me uncomfortable and disappointed. Between the rough handling, lack of attention to detail, and rushed service, this was not an acceptable experience. I do not recommend coming here, and I believe a full refund is warranted.

Fantastic experience: I haven't had a haircut beard trim in months. Toni asked good questions showing me the progress to insure I would look my best. Already scheduled my next appointment. My wife loved it. Thanks Toni.

Fantastic experience: Toni did a fantastic job on my haircut. It was my first time going to a Hudson / Hawk barber- and I am very pleased with the result. Toni was able to recreate my reference photo perfectly. She even was the first stylist to actually texture my hair the way I wanted. The quality of the cut, and the shampoo was well worth the price. Another thing that made the price worth what it was is Toni herself; She made great conversation and provided excellent customer service. I will be sure to return soon :)

Negative experience: Bad customer service. Management cares more about themselves than you as a customer. Have fun waiting 15-20 minutes past your scheduled time, every time you go. Do not go if you have a tight schedule. If you need to cancel they charge you, but if they need to cancel then you’re just SOL

Fantastic experience: I moved to Springfield about five years ago and bounced around different shops, until my friend recommended Preston at the Hudson Hawk shop downtown. In all honesty I was skeptical I hadn't had the greatest experiences at hudson before but I went in and for over a year now Preston has been cutting my hair. Not only has Preston always listened and cut my hair how I've asked, he has also helped me find new products that work better on my hair and new ways to style it I never thought would look any good. I highly recommend you go out and get your hair cut by Preston, he is simply the best and always a great guy to have a conversation with as well. (Ask him about playing the drums, One Piece, or Pokémon.)

Fantastic experience: I’ve had plenty of haircuts in my life—some good, some not so much. The problem has always been consistency. One visit my barber would nail it, the next time… not so much (and it was the same barber both times). That’s never been the case here. Preston has consistently cut my hair exactly how I want it, and it looks great every single time. The only time I wasn’t thrilled was when I asked for something completely different—and that’s on me, because Preston still cut it exactly the way I asked Long story short, I’ve found my new go-to barber.

Fantastic experience: Been going for a little over a year now… every time Preston is my go to, I won’t get a haircut if it’s not him. I live in southern Illinois and go to Springfield for school. When my hair gets due for a cut in the summer I’ll drive 4:30 hours to have Preston do it because he’s the only one that can do it right. Great place overall!

Fantastic experience: My boy Wes Ford is a miracle worker! I used to drive all the way from Marionville to Bolivar just to get a cut from him—then he moved to Republic, which made the drive a whole lot easier for me. I really can’t overstate how incredible he is. I’ve been to so many different barbers over the years, and not a single one has been able to pull off what Wes does. His attention to detail, consistency, and skill are on another level.

She is skilled at her craft, remembers my haircut, and has improved it each time. She is easy going and can have a conversation but doesn’t feel the compulsive need to fill the quiet times with chatter. I’ll keep scheduling with her as long as she’s available.

When I first switched from my old barber I was really struggling to find someone who seemed like they actually cared about the customer and wanted to make sure they made you happy. Fantastic experience: Tremendous experience. Online scheduling is a breeze. Check in is always efficient and check in staff are always friendly. Waits are short and if you do need to wait, the seating is comfy. I have no doubt that All the barbers are great, but Samantha is my go to and she is especially incredible. Wonderful service, tremendous haircut, awesome conversation, AND she always remembers my cut. Can’t imagine going anywhere (and to anyone) else!

Fantastic experience: 5 stars, but for some reason every time I get a haircut from Preston, people try to get my number and annoyingly flirt with me. Haircut is immaculate everytime but I now have to figure out how to get these flirtatious mosquito-type people away from me! Perhaps I’ll acquire a can of pepper spray, or cattle prod.

Fantastic experience: If you're looking for a great experience, come to this barber shop and especially hit up Steven! He definitely came in clutch 100% for me. Because I went to a different barbershop beforehand than the one I normally go to because the guy who I normally go to is always booked and I don't usually like having to schedule out in advance all the time, because sometimes I like doing walk-ins. So I came to this barber shop because I needed help getting my hair fixed because a previous barber messed it up, so I went here and he hooked me up. He did an amazing job. He talked me through the whole process, and as somebody who has ADHD and high-functioning autism, it's a lot harder for me to find a place where I'm comfortable and feel safe because, you know, I can get anxious, and I also deal with OCD. So I am very particular about my hair and he definitely hooked me up and made me feel comfortable. And I feel a lot more confident with my hair now. So if you're looking for a great experience, go to this Hudson Hawk location and book an appointment with Steven!

Negative experience: Definitely not worth going to the downtown Hudson Hawk Barber schedule an appointment to get your haircut. The guy over-the-counter who took the reservation for the haircut took my reservation. Said they could do my hair when I got there Finally came time to get my haircut I showed him what I want done was a taper fade said they don’t have time to do that even though they took my reservation so I had to leave Horrible customer service the guy over-the-counter taking reservations said he could do it and as I got there and I waited they told me they couldn’t do it. I’ll make sure to never come back down here again.

Negative experience: SO frustrated with our experience at this location. I arrived with my son to his appointment 5 minutes prior to his scheduled time. Samantha was 20 minutes late getting us in. She then told us she didn’t have time to do the cut he wanted and it was an upgraded cut. We have been getting this same cut at other locations and NEVER been told this was a “stay sharp” cut. I honestly wouldn’t have even been as upset to pay for a different cut, but when SHE was late and then told us she didn’t have time was extremely frustrating after making this appointment and driving to town and then wasting our time by not providing the service.

Fantastic experience: Whole experience was great. Easy to book. Shop was clean. Austin was my barber. He was great and professional and went above and beyond, even spending a little extra time to make sure I was happy when I got picky about the length. Price was decent for the service.
