Negative experience: I visited this barbershop last Saturday for a normal haircut and ended up leaving worst off than I came. Aaron did a number on my hairline. God I hope it’s fixable. I wouldn’t judge this place off of that one experience but for god sakes don’t let Aaron cut your hair!

Fantastic experience: Breese is amazing! I go to him every time and I always get GREAT TEXTURE. Whether he uses a razor, scissors or clippers I haven't gotten one cut that grew out wanky. SO FAR BREESE IS THE ONLY PERSON I TRUST WITH MY SHORT HAIR CUT. dammit he gives a mean pixie... (Pic is unstyled and with no product)

Fantastic experience: Anthony is the best! Absolutely love this place.

Negative experience: Terrible experience. I was supposed to get a scissor cut and a beard trim with "Isaiah." I get there, and "Isaiah" didn't seem to want to work, and they handed me off to someone else "Damon". Damon finished the job in 5 minutes. It was supposed to be a scissor cut, I think a scissor was used for less than 30 seconds. It was way shorter than I told him I wanted it (I even showed him pictures). Don't get me started on the beard. He did zero actual trimming, he just lined it up (and messed up the line on the bottom of my jaw), and basically used no "heads" on the machine, he just winged it. Ended up with a patchy looking beard that was long in some areas and short in others. Didn't even show me the back of the head when we were done. He just kind of took off the drape and we were done. Worst experience, do not go there.

Fantastic experience: Detroit Barber Co. keeps things simple: solid cuts, good people, and a clean vibe. I’ve been to both the Plymouth and Corktown shops, and they each do great work. You walk in looking rough, you walk out looking sharp. No nonsense. Corktown is my go-to, though. The place just has that Detroit grit and character. The music’s good, the crew’s professional, and the atmosphere feels like a spot where you can relax, talk a little, or just zone out while someone cleans you up right. Joe is the man. He pays attention to the details, takes his time, and delivers a cut that actually holds up. Lineup stays tight, beard looks clean, and you feel like yourself, just better. He’s consistent every single visit, and that’s what matters. If you want a solid haircut without the hype, Detroit Barber Co. is where you go. Especially Corktown. Especially Joe.

Negative experience: Pleople ask me "was your barber drunk?" after I got my haircut here. $50 for a haircut is pretty high. Coffee is extra and they did try to upsell me. My visit was my first and also my last.

Negative experience: Arrived at The barbershop at 1:57pm. My appointment was at 1:45pm. I tried calling multiple times but the line was busy. Aron was very rude the minute I walked in and said he couldn’t take me because he had a 1pm. Hel left and came back and continued to argue with me. I assured the young lady at the register that he’s been late several times and I still tipped him. He told her he can find another barber in front of three customers. This was the most underwhelming experience I’ve ever encountered and I wil not be returning.

Negative experience: had an appointment for 2:15 and waited an entire hour until i even got into the chair. Walked out and my friend went before me and didn’t get out until 3:30 when his appointment was at 1:45. Do not recommend at all terrible.

Fantastic experience: Got a haircut with Anthony today and he was great! He loves the haircut!

Negative experience: I had an appointment, but when I arrived, the barber told me he couldn’t cut my Black hair. I wasn’t given a clear explanation, and it left me feeling frustrated and disappointed. I made time for this visit, only to be turned away. A professional barber should be trained to work with all hair types. I’m sorry to say this, but I have to be honest—this experience was a waste of my time and not what I expected.

Negative experience: The photos talk for them self. I was assigned an APRENTICE with out my knowledge. I was nice when Ieft, I try to keep call 2 days after, 5 days after 21 days after. They did not care.

Fantastic experience: Megan is the Very Best! She has been cutting my hair and shaving my face and beard for about 40 months worth of excellence services. her station has a beautiful view of corktown (oldest neighborhood in Detroit). she has a very gentle touch and You won’t be disappointed! I feel Great after I see her! Megan Megan Megan!!!

Fantastic experience: Great gem, wonderful atmousphere, perfect location!

Negative experience: Very disappointed, had a long nice beard and had to come home and shave it down because it was so uneven. I'm just sad, because of the money I spent and did not receive the service I should have. Will not be returning as $80 for a cut and a beard trim, is a lot to leave disappointed.

Positive experience: Had a mocha & added some spice to it, very good. Nice atmosphere & chill spot. Didn't get a cut just a coffee. The barber shop looked very clean.

Negative experience: This was my first experience here. My barber was over ten mins late back from lunch. The haircut is average. There was no request for any after cut product and styling. I’m accustomed to paying the same rate but having a wash and styling with it.

Positive experience: Yesterday, I took my three boys to get haircuts, and overall, it was a mixed experience. I booked two appointments for my younger boys—one for a kid cut and another for a regular cut for my older son, who requested a taper fade. As for myself, I asked for a lineup. Dana was knowledgeable and engaging during the cuts, which I appreciated. However, when it was time to pay, I encountered issues. I had requested a presidential beard trim, but I ended up being charged for a haircut and a PBT, totalling $80. I paid that amount but then inquired about the boys’ haircuts. Receptionist said, "Have a great day", and handed me a receipt, so I left. A few hours later, I received a call asking about the boys' haircut payment. I informed them that I couldn’t handle it until Monday. My fiancée took the phone, and the bill was eventually settled after some back-and-forth. It’s essential to emphasise that clear communication is crucial in customer service. We had asked whether barbers set their own prices or if they were predetermined, and we were initially told it was set pricing. Later, we learned that barbers do indeed set their own prices. This lack of consistency needs to be addressed to improve customer satisfaction.

Fantastic experience: I regularly come in to see Brian, and he's always got a great cut for me, and does so in record time. I feel like we talk about everything, and I'll notice only 20 minutes have gone by and I'm on my way out the door. I highly recommend!

Positive experience: Jason was quite personable. The appointment time was 11:00. I was greeted warmly by Christopher and seated. I was in the chair at 11:30. The cut is satisfactory, and I have scheduled my two week appointment.

Negative experience: As an African American male who takes their hair seriously, be very careful. I called and asked if they could take me as a walkin and let them know I had textured African hair. Was told there was only one person there who worked with that kindve hair and I could come in 30 minutes. I got there and everything was cool and I sat down and showed a reference picture and said I want a high bald fade and I have an important interview tomorrow morning. I spent 40 minutes in the chair while a barber who was around 20 years old basically brushed my hair with a clipper guard. Another barber had to leave her client to come and try to salvage it. Which she did for the most part and she was very nice and apologetic but I just wanted to get decent enough to get out of the chair and dip. They comped me and I left. My issue is, the first barber shouldn’t have even attempted if he was confident in what he was doing.

Positive experience: I love coming here with my kids. We tried a couple of the barbers before landing on Megan. She is so good with my kids. They are 5 and 3. She does a great job on their hair while making the experience enjoyable for them. I highly recommend Megan.

Fantastic experience: Wide variety of barbers w/ plenty of experience. Offer a wide variety of personal grooming services. For both men and women. Coffee bar. Kid friendly. Easy to get/reschedule/cance appointments.

Negative experience: Like the review below. Got first available. Really felt like he did not know how to cut my hair. Asked for a trim. Was in chair maybe 10 mins. Kept having to say what I wanted. Yes, he asked several times what I thought to see in the mirror but it is really hard to tell. No shampoo. No trimming my neck. And it cost $40!! Really disappointing. Adding: today - last barber on left when you walk in. Check the charges.

Negative experience: I’ve been here many times and each time my haircut has not been a sharp or defined as I’ve wanted it. today I went there for the fifth time and I booked with Isaiah. All Isaiah was able to do was talk on his phone and cut my hair at the same. Isaiah failed to hand me a mirror at the end of the haircut. I’m assuming that he was ashamed of the haircut that he had given to me. After leaving, I noticed my hairline is now pushed back and is crooked. Not only that but my hair looks nothing like the picture that I showed him. He cut my hair away too low. The previous time I went in, they had some white kid who didn’t even know what he was doing and had never worked with textured hair before trying to cut my hair and other barbers that were in establishment had to assist him by yelling at him. It is a waste of $40 and DO NOT GO!!!‍♂️

Fantastic experience: Go-to spot for simple fades since 2019. Consistent, professional, and friendly staff. Aaron and Jason are fantastic to work with.

Negative experience: Jason gave me the worst haircut i’ve had and pushed my very clearly defined hairline back. He neglected to clean off the apron before putting it on me. His clippers were jagged and snagging my hairs without him taking any awareness of his tools needing servicing. I will never return to Detroit Barber Co. or Jason.

Negative experience: Worst haircut I've ever received. My barber was more concerned talking to the guy across the room then cutting my hair. Didn't say a single word to me after I showed him what I wanted. DO NOT GO HERE unless you want to pay premium prices for a mediocre haircut.

Negative experience: Clean shop but some of the barbers don't know what they're doing. Went in yesterday to get my hair cut, showed the barber a picture of what I wanted (buzzed on the sides, short on top) and after an HOUR I left with a patchy buzz cut. Didn't even clean up my neck! Some of the barbers are really good, but I wish I could trust that all their barbers take their jobs seriously.

Fantastic experience: I booked a last minute appointment for my son before school starts; skeptical. My son who is 12 has not had the best luck with barbers and was timid. Brian was awesome! As soon as we walked in he made a connection with my son and got him to relax and even ENJOY the cut. 1st time in a long time this has happened. Thank you Brian, we appreciate you!

Negative experience: Got a short haircut and shave for 115$. At the end of the straight razor shave, she used a HOT towel on the shaved areas. Idk if this was intentionally or she just never shaved with a razor before. It created a pretty painful experience and left super itchy blisters/bumps that have lasted a week now. I got the same cut before here before with another barber, and he also didn't use a cold towel afterward. At least with him it wasn't hot. Why do they not use a cold towel here to close up the pores and prevent irritation? Never have I had blisters this bad from a straight razor shave before. Haircut was pretty average.

Positive experience: I've been to the Corktown location twice now & I love the atmosphere. The staff is friendly & the coffee from Lucky Detroit is delicious. My first experience went well. My first barber was very cool & my cut was perfect (thanks Merideth). However, my second & most recent cut (Executive Bald Fade) was NOT GREAT AT ALL (barber shall remain anonymous). Bad cut aside, I'm still a fan of Detroit Barber Co. & I'll recommend them to anyone looking for a friendly atmosphere, tasty coffee & a perfect haircut (imo) from Merideth. See y'all in a couple of weeks.

Positive experience: My today’s experience with Jason was horrifying.. totally messed up my cut and and I am regretting my decision to go with him in the first place. It felt like an amateur was giving me a cut with no precision… I am gonna have to live with this specially when I have a business conference to attend next week.

Fantastic experience: I came into town from Chicago and needed a cut short notice, so I went to anyone available. Had a haircut with Megan Krushlin, and probably had the best cut I’ve ever had! Megan was very thorough and was meticulously with detail! Great Job!

Negative experience: Scheduled with Brian bc he did a great job but he canceled the appointment and they set me up with Jason Brandon….. Worst decision of the last 12 months. Completely BUTCHERED my hair. It’s been 2 months and I’m still recovering from it. It was so bad that I had to go to great clips to get it “fixed” a week later. Barber there was like “what did he try to do? You have like a half mullet. Nothing is blended”

Negative experience: I normally use lewis even though he messes it up all the time I tolerate him. Today I used Isaiah who just happened to want to be on the phone more than giving me a haircut. If you wanna do that fine, but at least give me a reasonable haircut without a hairline that's more of a landslide. What happened to the good ole barbers? Am done!

Positive experience: service is not bad though what I expected. Working very punctually on scheduled time, no waiting time, appreciated it.

Fantastic experience: I visited the Plymouth shop recently and Mandy was my barber. I have been a customer at the Plymouth location for several years and this was the first time Mandy cut my hair. She cut my hair the way I liked it plus suggested some great styling ideas that turned out great. I will definitely be getting my hair cut by Mandy again!

Fantastic experience: Visited Detroit Barber Co. for the first time - Plymouth location. My barber was Courtney, she did an amazing job on my pixie cut and got me feeling like myself again. Great experience with Courtney!

Positive experience: I recently cut my hair short & this was my first time going to a barber to get it cleaned up. The cut itself is clean, but Lewis took about an inch off my hairline in the front and forced it into a straight line instead of following my natural hairline, leaving me looking extremely masculine. I’ve kept my hair wrapped up all weekend, because every time I look at myself directly, I break into tears. The shop is nice and clean, and Lewis was nice, but it’s clear he’s not comfortable cutting women’s hair & I wish he would’ve told me that before he started cutting

Fantastic experience: Meredith W. kills it every time! She’s been the only one to cut my hair for going on 7 years now. With her skill and attention to detail, I’m always catching compliments. She also took good care of my groomsmen and me before my wedding. Look no further.

Positive experience: My last haircut I got here was a strange experience. Let me preface by saying all the barbers I have seen are talented and inviting (I can't say enough good stuff about all the barbers I have seen). Saying that, my last experience was disappointing because when I arrived, I had to park two long blocks away and pay at a meter. My barber was 20 minutes late for our appointment. Everyone, including the front desk, seemed confused, and I was smacked by an electrical cord, a man was swinging around when I was sitting, waiting for my barber. Come to find out, a huge film crew was at the shop taking up all the close parking spaces and filming a commercial all morning, which displaced my barber. To make matters worse no one at the shop was told by the owner that this was taking place. My barber was delayed because "security" didn't want to let her in, they where filming in her area, and she told me the film crew opened her personal case and where "using" some of her personal equipment for the shoot. This unfortunately is not the first time I have heard of the owner causing a somewhat hostile and uncomfortable work and customer environment.

Fantastic experience: I see Megan here the first or so of every month. She does a wonderful job and the work is always top notch. Everyone needs: A good doctor. A good lawyer. A good accountant: A good barber. Go here.

Fantastic experience: Joe Walker is the best barber here. I've been visiting him for over a year and it's always a good time. We've had great conversations over that time I've been coming and he is not distracted from your haircut, as it always comes out top quality. Front desk people seem like they really don't care and could be more friendly, but oh well - their part of the job doesn't seem like a fun one.

Negative experience: Not your choice if you’re between meetings. I go monthly but they’ve never been on time. I’m sitting here right now and waiting for my 11:30 apt and it’s 11:46. This only matters because appointments are 20 minutes. So you could say they are nearly 100 percent off track for appointment times. The barber doesn’t matter. It’s everyone.

I initially came in for coffee and tea with my friend and I heard a baby crying from getting his hair cut and I saw that they was being very patient with him so I thought to myself my son is 3 and he needs his haircut and this was his second haircut and it was a wonderful experience Megan was super nice and gave my son lots of compliments

Fantastic experience: Great place! I've been a few times to see Destiny and she always does a really nice job, compliments everywhere I go afterwards. Today I had to get an emergency cut done due to a fight I got into at home with my clippers, Megan was available and did some magic! I have had long hair for a long time so trusting her to do a short cut was a lot, but I'm happy that I did! Definitely will be back.

Negative experience: Charming locations and nice competent barbers but you’re on their time. Frequent harassing reminders met with long delays once you arrive. On the other hand, when I popped in for an iced coffee several minutes before close one afternoon (didn’t know) I was told “you know we’re about to close”, put out that I would ask to pour coffee in a cup and pay for it. I’m totally fine with a friendly “sorry we’re closed for the day”, but don’t act like you’re doing me a favor and pressing you’re time when you obviously have no concern for mine.

Fantastic experience: Manny was great with my 7 year old son. He wanted a custom design in his hair and Manny took his time and created a large old English D for my son. It turned out really well and my son was very happy with it! Everyone at the shop was welcoming and nice. McKenzie did a great job on my 6 year old son’s mullet, which was a disaster before she reshaped and styled it. We will definitely be regulars. From the first call to book the appointments, to the finished results, we are very happy with our services.

Fantastic experience: I had the pleasure of receiving a Trim/Lineup by Lewis on a couple occasions. He's very skilled and professional. Detroit Barber Co. in Corktown is a very clean and professional establishment. I recommend that you visit Lewis or another Barber for your next Barber needs.

Negative experience: If I could put 0 stars I would. Worse haircut I have ever gotten in my life. I had to go home and buzz my hair down to all the same length. Lewis is a legit clown and a hack. Literally has no regards or worries about anyone’s hair. NEVER and I mean NEVER get your hair cut by him. Like the last person to leave a review said, if you care about your hair then go somewhere else I should of listen to my gut and waited for my usual barber. Dude left me with half of a mustache, completely botched my beard and Now I’m baby face. Thanks Lewis for the disrespect. Never again

Fantastic experience: I like getting my haircut at Detroit Barber. I have my favorite, but in a pinch, getting a walk-in is usually available. I don’t really get the idea of having the coffee shop integrated with the barber shop, but I really like the coffee, so I get one every time, and the baristas are always great, so I'm a fan.

Fantastic experience: My son had a great experience! Willy was fun, kind, and more than competent. From the perspective of a former stylist, this shop was well kept, clean, and as a mom I love that they had comfy seating and a coffee bar right inside! 10/10 will be back

Negative experience: (This was at the grosse pointe park location not Detroit) To preface this, I've tried to contact the manager on two separate occasions, to speak to them directly. They apparently do not have managers since they keep suggesting the owner will call me back. The full package took an hour and a half. By the time she told me she was done, I had to get out of there in a hurry to get my kid from school. The lineup on my temples was not even. The mustache sides were clearly off. The beard line was brought down an obnoxious amount (though I asked her to keep a more natural line). Under the chin was barely shaved and not lined up with trimmers. The whole service was 100% not worth it. It's certainly well decorated, but the actual cut and beard trim up was the worst I've ever had. Maybe if you just get a haircut, not anything else, they can manage that? I don't post reviews like ever, but had to on this occasion. If I can't let the owners know, so they can make effective changes, I have to let you all know so you don't waste your money.

Positive experience: Isaiah did my fade i think he did a great job show him a picture of how my old barber use to cut my hair. Did it the same way a lil better I really appreciate his time will be going back for the next cut...update went for a line up ill leave the name out but man one side of my head is higher and cut further back it sucks cuase I really like my first cut had to stop somewhere to try a get it fixed

Fantastic experience: First time going to DBC was just before my brother’s wedding. Destiny and the rest of the staff did an incredible job at making us feel at home and the cut was second to none… Destiny gave me suggestions for styling and how to trim my hair as we went through the cut. Great experience, will be back!

Negative experience: Lewis is the most unprofessional, disrespectful, and disregarding barber I have ever been to in my life! DO NOT go here. This place is awful and charged obscene prices for mediocre at best cutting. Lewis cut all five inches of my hair without my permission. I told him to cut 1/2 inches my hair and give me a lineup and taper. I told him this multiple times and even showed him how much hair I wanted him to cut. As soon as he started cutting with the clippers I knew he had cut too much. I immediately stopped him and asked to look, I was traumatized. He had Cut so much off that there was entirely no way he could continue without cutting the rest of my hair that length. I have never had a worse barber experience in my life! If you love yourself don’t go here and do not trust LEWIS!!!!!

Fantastic experience: I have been to Detroit Barbers in Corktown four times now and utilized three different Barbers, all have done an awesome job! I’m not someone who can book 4 or 5 weeks out, I’m usually a two day in advance guy. The online booking system makes it fast and easy to find a barber within my time window and be confident I’ll get a great cut! The online confirmation and reminders are an added plus. Book it, you won’t be disappointed…

Fantastic experience: I had a great visit to the D over the weekend. Decided to treat myself to what I heard was the best barbershop in town. I was not disappointed. This shop is so cool. The cafe was cool and people were actually there for coffee. I decided to get the works from Denise which was an excellent decision. Denise was very accommodating and listened to what I wanted even though I had no idea. She made terrific suggestions and took control of the appointment. She even gave me a straight razor save on my neck (I have a beard). To me this is the hardest place to shave and Denise did it flawlessly. Several applications of lather and warm towels, shave, followed by the critical cold towel after. Zero razor burn! The beard trim was perfect and the haircut was as close to a bald fade as I was willing to go. If I lived in the D Denise would be my go to straight razor shave gal. Well worth the visit!

Negative experience: The worst experience I ever had in a Barbershop. Every time I travel to Detroit I used to come to this place but for sure, it will be the last time. The website said 40 Us for 45 of service, mine last less than 25 minutes, the attitude of the Barber was terrible and he did not did it properly like other professional barbers.

Fantastic experience: Had the pleasure of having my haircut by Jason, Lewis and breese. All 3 gave me a great haircut and the overall service was equally as top notch There's even a great lil coffee shop upstairs!

Fantastic experience: I dated and slept with my barber for 10 years before coming to Detroit Barber shop to have my hair cut so needless to say I am extremely particular and picky when it comes to my hair. That being said Brees did an absolutely incredible job listening and asking all the right questions to give me exactly the cut I was looking for! A+++ 10/10 SERVICE!

Fantastic experience: Please note that I've made an appointment 5 times and I only had to wait about 5 minutes once for my dad to get his hair cut. All of the others times, we just walked and the barber was waiting on us. I am happy because my father is pleased.

Fantastic experience: My grandson loves his barber. She talks to him about his day, what he ate for breakfast., and always have a variety of stickers for him. He will be going her as long as she works there.

She came prepared having read my notes I submitted when I booked my appointment and listened to what it was I wanted. Fantastic experience: I am very particular about my hair and the cuts. Hair cuts are not just shaving your head with a machine( it’s weird i even have to say this!) When i first moved here from Toronto, i tried a number of places in Detroit/MetroD area(trust me, many!) and a series of extremely bad haircuts. I preferred driving to Toronto and getting my hair cut there(no joke did this as much as i could until Covid) having said that full credit to Brian who is not only a kind, thoughtful, and a great human but also understand what you want to do with your hair and works with you for a great and satisfying result. 1000% recommend Brian at Detroit Barber Co!

Fantastic experience: Dave does a great job at your GP shop. I was disappointed to learn during a recent visit that the price of a regular haircut has increased by almost 17%, and credit cards sales are subject to an additional service charge of 2.8%. Wow that is almost a 20% increase - seems excessive.

Negative experience: Booked “The Works “ service for my fiancé as a birthday present. Booked with Isaiah. Isaiah was with another client and threw him to another available barber. All they gave him was a haircut and beard trim with hot towel. Very disappointed because he was supposed to receive a 1hr service and didn’t get what was booked for.

Fantastic experience: My 10 year old son loved his new hair cut. The staff was very patient and polite. Also, I enjoyed their cafe upstair. It was very quiet and clean. The pour over decaf coffee was good. The atmosphere and decor was very welcoming. Thanks you for your services. We will be returning in the future.

Positive experience: I had a 2:30 appointment and arrived on time. Your website shows a haircut and beard trim for 45$ with a time frame of 45 minutes. He zipped through my hair and beard in about 16 minutes. I think 45$ is a bit overpriced for the little time spent on my services. My past experiences here took at least 30 minutes or longer. I may not come back. You would think I would at least get my hair washed.

Fantastic experience: Brees has an exacting touch, always creates a look that gets better with each passing day. I usually fight with myself to even get my hair and beard trimmed as I love it even months after his cut.

Fantastic experience: Well, last time I post a misunderstanding situation about booking mistake. Appears it was a small mistake but the shop handled. Very well and solved the issue as fast as they could and I received a very perfect treatment. Thanks to Chad and (Destiny) my favorite barber there and Michigan for taking care of it and now I’m back here satisfied and happy. It will always be the best spot to get any kind of hair cut.
