Positive experience: Went in with my daughter for each of us to get a cut. Just a trim for her and a cut for me. My cut was done by Kathleen and was perfect and she was very sweet. But looking at my daughters hair just now and it is way crooked. I understand this is a mens barber shop but they should have just said they couldnt do it. This for 35 dollars for that is a bit insane to me. I was happy to pay 35 for my cut though

Fantastic experience: Stopped in to get my hair cut on August 8 because I haven’t been able to get a decent cut from multiple salons for the last 1 1/2 years. Breanna took me as it was her turn, I was happy to find she understood exactly what I wanted, the standard “businessman’s cut” that so many stylists and salons seem to have forgotten how to do. She was a good conversationalist and we talked quite a bit about many topics. I was very happy with the cut she gave me, she did an excellent job. And such a pleasant personality and nice to chat with!

Fantastic experience: Superb service and haircut. It was my first haircut since moving to Madison and I don't need to look anywhere else. Ka was gentle and efficient. Plus, she made me look great! I wasn't pressured into adding anything on to my service which can sometimes be a little annoying. Lastly, they wash your hair AFTER your haircut which I've never seen before, but is absolutely genius. Looking forward to my next visit!

Negative experience: Could’ve been a bad night for the barber, but it was unfortunately one of the worst cuts I’ve gotten. I’m sure there are other good barbers there so I’ll give 2 stars, but it was a 1-star haircut. He shaved one half of my head and didn’t come close to blending it.

Fantastic experience: This barbershop accepts both appointments and walk ins. Their website is super easy to use and book appointments. I have never received a bad haircut from any of the stylists and their pricing is definitely worth it.

Fantastic experience: I went in and got a cut from Temarcus for the first time because all of the reviews I saw online praised his cuts and in particular his fades. He not only lived up to expectations but surpassed them. Also, he was humble and took an artist's pride in his craft. I've been getting cuts in Madison for 10+ years now, and his work on my hair and my beard was easily some of the best I've had since I moved here. I cannot recommend him highly enough--truly great work.

Fantastic experience: Tia did a great job! My son has very thick hair that grows upward & the texture is quite rough. It has a wave/curl texture that you cannot really see based on how it grows out. We showed her a few photos of what he wanted & she took her time to examine his hair & texture. She started with buzzing all around the requested area, keeping it at midpoint as requested. She then started to spray but after picking at it she completely wet his entire hair to see the actual form on the top! This was thinking outside of the box & an extra step we appreciate bc his hair has always been cut dry or sprayed and at the end the top was always cut too short. With this cut and careful texturing/blending all around it gave him the slick back look that he was hoping for! This cut complimented the way his wave/curl grows & it definitely gave him a more Stylish, age appropriate look!

Fantastic experience: Another great haircut at The Barbershop. I've been going to The Barbershop for 10ish years now. I started going to the Lien Rd location and when the Sun Prairie location opened I went there because it was closer to my home. I went back to the Lien Rd location to follow Temarcus who gives a perfect fade every time. I've always found the locations to be clean, polite and professional even after all these years. I also never feel like it's a "rush" job like I've experienced at certain "Great-Sports-Clips-n-Cuts" types of places. My first review for The Barbershop and it was long overdue. Don't forget to tip your stylists!

Negative experience: Was told if I showed up at 6:09 for my 6:10 appt it would have been fine but because I came in the door at 6:12 it was a problem and the barber wasn't feeling it... I'm a repeat business but not any more

Negative experience: I arrived at the salon and was directed to Dwayne's station. I noticed that the station was unclean and had a strong smell of cigarettes. I requested if he could trim more of the sides, but Dwayne was not accommodating and rather impolite. I also observed that his own hair was not well-groomed, which was surprising for a hairstylist. A hairstylist should know how to present themselves to customers, but unfortunately, in Dwayne's case, his skills are not reflected in his own hair. I was disappointed by his attitude and lack of professionalism, and I have no intention of returning.

Fantastic experience: Very nice clean , & welcomed ! I had Diane cut my hair she was a sweetheart & gave me a great shampoo & massage along with a very good haircut!

Fantastic experience: Got a hair cut and beard trim from Duane, and he did an amazing job! Very professional and great at what he does. The only issue was that some of the other hair stylists had their TV volume on along with the holiday music coming over the PA system, and having multiple shows and music playing at the same time made it hard to relax. Aside from that, everything was great, and will be back to see Duane when I need another trim

Fantastic experience: My husband went to THE BARBERSHOP and loved it. I didn't know if they took women there and they do! So I made an appointment. While I got some strange looks when I went in, my stylist, T.A. was so kind, friendly and good! I am a Senior and she was so caring for my physical challenges. It was a wonderful experience all the way!!

Besides being super attractive, he was very attentive to detail, got it done in a timely manner, and held a great conversation to make the experience more comfortable. The rest of the staff were very helpful and the building was super clean. The waiting area was the most comfortable place I've ever been to. The price may seem a bit high but once you are finished you'll realize it's worth every penny! If my barber reads this "hit me up you know where to find my number" lol

Negative experience: I had been going to Betty or Becky I always blank on the name and she was absolutely phenomenal until I went in there after booking an appointment with her only to be taken and cut by the manager Duane(not sure about spelling) . But he proceeded to give me a subpar cut and ended the haircut with a very creepy and uncomfortable massage. Heard I’m not the only one. All the other stylists are AMAZING tho. Just will not be going back because of that

Fantastic experience: The shop has a lot of signage and the other reviews talk about neck rubs and such. I didn't get one. In fact, my experience was very cut and dry, pun intended. My barber was very quiet and quick, with nothing extra added. That is what I wanted, so five stars.

Negative experience: I had two experience with them, the last one the woman was nice and kind, but the haircut was horrible, i didn’t like it, i don’t care about being kind or nice just be respectful, I need a good haircut as I expect and described. The first experience the woman was not nice as the last one but she did the job and she was respectful, the haircut was acceptable, not good but close to what i wanted.

Negative experience: The lady with the 4th of July hat didn’t take her time on my boyfriend who went in for a a haircut. The lines on the side wasn’t even faded, his hairline was left uneven .Both sides of his head were completely different .In & out the chair within 20 minutes. Don’t recommend!

Negative experience: I came in with a very easy and straight-forward haircut request, but I was left deeply dissatisfied. I don't know if the person who did my hair was tired, or distracted, or just having an off day, but they were rough and brisk to the point where I ended up with an unfinished and uneven haircut. Not only that, but the clippers they used were too sharp or used incorrectly and left painful red welts on the back of my neck that hurt the rest of the day. I've always had a decent haircut at this location in the past, so hopefully this was just a one-off thing. Regardless, I will think twice about using that stylist again.

Fantastic experience: Duane is an amazing barber he does an amazing job everytime im there and he is extremely friendly and professional I don't even live on the east side but I travel to see Duane because I'm never disappointed great staff great service thanks again!

Fantastic experience: This was my first full service haircut and I was not sure what to expect. I went in thinking it would be my usual experience of getting my haircut and leaving to deal with the after care myself. Instead I was treated to a haircut, wash, and meticulous hair removal so I didn't drive home itchy. I was offered a shoulder massage, which was well beyond what I was expecting. For the price I will be sure to return again and again.

Negative experience: Bad experience both with the service and the haircut. All interactions with staff made me feel uncomfortable and as if I was being difficult. I don't have a difficult haircut but it usually takes longer than 10 minutes. I do not think that is enough time to give a good haircut and take the care to leave the customer satisfied. Will not be going back and will be quickly getting a second haircut to fix my current one.

Negative experience: I got my worst haircut at this place. I can’t do anything as it was cut way too short now. The length of my front hair is uneven. Have anyone seen a “Nike “ sign front hair ? Fantastic experience: really expensive, and they charge 1.00 more if you pay by card. so with tip it will run you about 40.00 for a hair cut @ the lowest cut. Your response was totally juvenile and you are not comparable to others so for the hair cut alone is out of line as far as the other things you consider with the cut I pay for that as well as its included in the cost of the cut. Negative experience: I used to love going to this place they generally do a decent job at doing fades and haircuts. Recently, I have seen a dip of quality both in haircuts and customer service. For insight, I usually do a mid fade comb over with texturizing and hard part line. They are one of the best places to get it done in Madison.... If they are not in a rush. They seem to be double booking and not being as attentive to details. Unfortunately, the straw that broke the camel's back was reached for me. I was scheduled for an appointment on a Sunday closer to closing time and they just cancelled my appointment altogether. I drove all the way to the shop just to be told that I could no longer be taken. This was very unprofessional and they didn't even offer to reschedule. I don't know if there's been a change in leadership but I honestly find that outrageous. I recommended a few friends to go here but will now let them know that they are not reliable and consistent.

I don't think I ask for anything difficulty, but it's amazing how many stylists can't seem to get beyond what THEY think I'm asking vs, what I want. Positive experience: I called ahead today because I’m new to the area and wanted to get a first time Mullet with a fade. As this is a new hair style for me, after growing my hair out for a year, I was pretty nervous about it as anyone would be. I got Amanda on the phone who was my stylist for the day and when I asked if they’ve done Mullets before or if there was someone there who specializes with them I was rudely responded with “yeah we are a BARBERSHOP that’s what WE do”. Sometimes barbers are better at certain styles. Maybe customer service isn’t your strong point. I’ll take my business elsewhere.

Positive experience: Service is good. However the price was ridiculous. $29 to run clippers with a number 2 guard over my head for three minutes is outrageous. I should have asked the price before I sat down. I still tipped $8, it wasn’t the stylist’s fault they are overpriced.

Fantastic experience: Duane is seriously the best. I’ve been taken care of very well by the people at the barbershop over the years, but Duane is by far the best to have ever cut my hair. He always seems to find a way to best his previous work when I come in. He is such a valuable asset to the barbershop! I hope they take good care of him there!

Negative experience: When you come in the evening 20 minutes before closing time, walk in for a cut, 3 people are standing around, and you ask if you can get in for a quick hair cut and they say they are closed. With 20 minutes before closing time, no one else in the shop, It's very frustrating. Then as I walk away someone says "sorry" very patronizing and asks if I want to make an appointment. NO, I would like to get a hair cut for the $30 you charge because you are not closed yet and just standing around. This kind of customer service is why I stopped coming here.

Fantastic experience: Tanya is a fantastic barber! She's been my go-to for the past year. It hasn't mattered whether I had known what I wanted before I came in or if I had been unsure of what I wanted, I've always left with a killer cut!

Negative experience: Living on the west side of Madison I generally go to the Barbershop off of Junction road. They did not have any available appointments until Sunday so I decided to book a time at the location on the east side and it was only an hour after when I booked it, great! The stylist asked what I wanted to have done, I wanted .5 inch on the back and sides and .75 inches on the top with a bit of a fade between the two lengths. The stylist then asks me if a 4 on the back and sides and a 6 on top was okay. As a layperson to haircutting I said sure. They then cut my hair without wetting it at all (I have curly/waivy hair) which I knew was going to produce some serious inconsistencies with the length. They buzzed the top first to the '6', and buzzed the back and sides with the '4' after. They then took a normal buzzer and cleaned up around my face, my ears and the back of my neck. Now normally, this would be fine but due to the nature of curly hair I had anywhere between .75 and 2 inches on top and anywhere between .5 and 1 inch on the back and sides. From there, after the haircut, there was no offer for my hair to be washed or have product put in (the stylist just decided to put in something without letting me know first). I don't have any haircutting experience, however, I could have done a better job in the mirror myself. I had to clean up all of the inconsistencies with the hair length myself at home because there was no chance that I'd have the issue fixed at the east side Barbershop location. I've had my fair share of bad haircuts due to the stylist not wanting to take the time to use scissors and verify the length is consistent across my dome but instead they figure a buzzer and guard will do just as good of a job. I used to really like the Barbershop across Madison and the Fox Valley locations but my experience today has propelled me to find a stylist at a local shop that will be consistent with what I'd like to have done.

Negative experience: Brought my two sons in for a haircut. One was fine, my other son ended up with a horrible haircut. He has thick wavy brown hair that was quite long and asked for it to be “shorter” on the back, sides and top. What he got was a buzz with a three or a two all the way around. No style. I could have done better at home myself. He was crying in the car. He is a high school boy and now has to worry about this bad haircut. Apparently he stated she started buzzing him on the top of his head so he didn’t see a chance to say that’s not what I want. I will NEVER be coming back. We have been there several times in the past and it has been okay, and everyone is friendly enough but this is too far. At the very least the stylist could have asked, “you want me to do a three all over your head before buzzing it off?”.

Negative experience: Went in for a trim to get my hair under control for a formal occasion I had coming up. Emphasized that I was trying to grow my hair out and only wanted a little bit off to shape it but took way too much off. The online system also canceled my appointment but they were still able to work me in. Other than that, the staff were all nice and the cut was pretty cheap so I guess you get what you pay for.

Negative experience: Lori was an awful stylist. She was rude, impatient, and for whatever reason did not care enough to give me a proper cut or even clean me up after the cut. I suspect she was hungover, given her curt demeanor and momentary step away because it was quote "so hot". I would write a more detailed skewering, but I have given myself more even haircuts and right now my time would be better spent finding a barber who can cover this mess up.

Fantastic experience: So I was here about a year ago, and didn't have the greatest experience. But because this place is so highly rated in reviews, I decided to give it a second chance. Let me preface by saying; haircuts make me anxious and nervous, I've had so many bad ones. Today, I was taken care of by Chelsey. She was very kind, and had a very calm, and reassuring demeanor. On top of that, she just gave me a really nice haircut. It's a great fade. She took her time, didn't rush, paid attention to detail, and did a fantastic job. Chelsey; thank you so much! The last time I was here, the hot towel facial, the shampoo, and the shoulder massage was not even offered to me. The stylist I saw last time just gave me a very rushed haircut, then booted me out of her chair. Today, Chelsey offered me everything, the whole works. The hot towel facial, and the shampoo was so relaxing, and so wonderful. A whole day of stress from working and traffic just disappeared, I almost fell asleep in the chair! And because I was offered the shampoo, I ended up being introduced to a fantastic conditioner, and I bought a bottle of it so that I could use it at home too. This experience today was totally and completely polar opposite to my last experience. Now I can see why so many men like this place. I would be more than happy to come back here, and would feel privileged to have Chelsey be my stylist again. She truly provided a wonderful experience today, and I can't thank her enough. Now I've rated this place 5 stars, and I would absolutely recommend. If you're like me, and you feel like your hair is difficult to cut, and you get nervous about haircuts, ask for Chelsey. She did an amazing job.

Negative experience: I had an appointment this morning at 930 to get a hair cut, and it I had to get done today. Keep in mind it did snow pretty hard last night, but after leaving early this morning to make sure I got there on time, roughly 15 minutes early I arrived to an empty parking lot. I called several times and eventually had to call a different store and "luckily" the district manager (DM) was there to tell me they decided to open that location at noon instead. Apparently she could see I was the only appointment but no way to see my phone number to let me know in advance. So heres my problem. 1.This is completely unprofessional way to run a business. 2.If they deemed it unsafe for their employees to go in why did they think it was ok to not inform their clients who could be making a similar drive? 3. If I was truly the only client that morning and the DM was at this other location across town why couldn't she come across town to fill in for the one appointment that morning? 4. If the DM can see I'm the only appointment that morning why couldn't she also see my number? does that mean they put my name on an electronic calendar and not my contact info? 5. They asked me to come in again at noon. SO, I have to make the drive twice when they didn't feel safe enough to make it once? Sounds fair and reasonable.... 6. Between waiting and 2 round trips to get my hair cut I will have wasted nearly 2hrs. Not including the actual haircut This company has disrespected me and my time. Seriously pay extra money somewhere else where they will actually give a damn.

Fantastic experience: All my boys go here for their hair cuts. Great service, great price! Shannon always goes above and beyond making my autistic son feel comfortable whole getting his hair cut. She is amazing and patient with him.
