Fantastic experience: First time going there. Have had a hard time finding a good barber since coming back to NL, but would highly recommend Zohair at the Churchill Sq location! Very relaxed environment, got me in without an appointment and gave me the best haircut I’ve had in years. Would highly recommend and will be back again!

Positive experience: Fogtown is great, they generally deliver a good cut and offer all the trimming of a modern barbershop like razor shaves and touchups. The ambiance is modern and masculine and the shop is always well kept and clean. The location is also super convenient and they can often accommodate walk-ins which is great for last minute procrastinators like myself. The only downside to the service is it has become prohibitively expensive and often a shave and cut can run you between sixty and seventy dollars. Aside from the price this is a great spot and you can trust the staff to make you look a million times better leaving than you did walking in.

Negative experience: Im visiting St Johns for work and this was the closest barbershop. I went in to get a lineup and to have my undercut shaved and it was mediocre...this was 90$ CAD (with tip). I usually pay between 50-65$ (with tip) for this and its significantly better. I had to go back to my hotel to fix a few strays myself and Im still not thrilled about this. You know that whole choosing two out of "cheap, fast and good" thing? This was slow (about an hour) very expensive and very mediocre. I dont recommend this to anyone. The barber was cool, people are friendly but not 90$ friendly.

Fantastic experience: I had a haircut here a few weeks and without a hint of sarcasm, top 5 haircut I've been had. I made the mistake a few months prior chatting up a different barber and damn my boyish charm because she wouldn't stop talking, which meant she couldn't stop cutting. Far too much came off the top. Like, way too much. A comical amount. So this time, I decided to the opposite. Claire asked me how much off the top and I said "as little as possible" and that was it. 30 minutes later, zero talking and she absolutely nailed it. Big fan.

Negative experience: Worst in town. Before finishing the cut, I asked him to fix a few things, but he just said, “Your time is up, I have another customer waiting.”

Fantastic experience: Visiting home for a week from Toronto and Nathan killed it on a mullet trim, said he's an apprentice but works like he's been at it for years. Hell of a job from a hell of a guy. Thanks again!

Negative experience: Had a fade cut done for me with trim on the top. Left with a fade cut that was not blended well and on different height levels on each side. The top cut was done very roughly, leaving an uneven bumpy profile and generally not finished. Had to go to another barber that day to fix the fade and top cut. Not looking to go back just to pay to have my hair done like that again.

Fantastic experience: My daughter is getting married in a few days and it was suggested that I should get a hot towel shave on the morning of the wedding. Anyone who knows me can appreciate that I am not all that concerned with my appearance, but for my daughter's wedding, I do want to look my best. Wanting to look sharp and never having had a professional shave before, I decided to book a test run a few days before the big day. After a quick Google search, I came across Fogtown Barbers, with locations on Water Street and in Churchill Square. Making the two bookings was quick and easy from their website, which matched me with a barber who offered hot towel shaves and was available on the morning of the wedding. My "test run" was this morning at 10:30 with Jessica Beiler. I arrived a few minutes early, and Jessica was ready for me promptly at 10:30. Having never experienced a hot towel shave before, I wasn't sure what to expect. Jessica started with a process hot towel which she carefully wrapped around my face and ever increasing closeness with every razor pass. It was incredibly soothing! The lather she used had a light, clean scent, and razor glided smoothly with each pass. Jessica was very attentive, checking in with me regularly to make sure I was comfortable. The end result was the closest, smoothest shave I've ever had, and my face felt fantastic. The whole experience was an indulgence that was extremely relaxing. When it was finished I had the closest shave ever and felt great. If you're looking for a top-notch barber in St. John's, I highly recommend booking with Jessica at Fogtown. You won't be disappointed! Based on this initial experience, I can't think of a better way for me to start the day of my daughter's wedding. It undoubtedly will be a busy day with lots of emotions, so starting relaxed and refreshed with a hot towel shave from Fogtown sounds perfect.

Everything about the session was top shelf, from the laid back vibe of the shop to the warm greeting upon arrival, to the friendly/familiar but also super-professional way the services were executed by Bryan. Not cheap, but value for money hands down. As good as the barbering is, this place also captures the charm of the city. If you have a hard time trying to explain to someone the core feel of downtown ‘SinJohns’, just tell them to go to in for a clip. They’ll get it! Super happy with the service. I’ll be back, and will recommend to others. Deadly job!

Fantastic experience: I had my first appointment at Fogtown yesterday with Serhii. He told me he is Ukrainian. As someone of Croatian descent whose family left Yugoslavia for political reasons, it was terrific that he was finding work that he seemed to enjoy. In terms of the haircut: best haircut I've ever had (and I once got a $150 haircut as a present to myself, and it was not as good as Serhii’s, who only charges $32). I have a double crown which makes my hair very difficult to cut and manage. Serhii, through some barber black magic, cut my hair in a way to give the appearance of a single crown and all the hair laying in place (it’s almost always sticking up). And he is just a genuinely nice guy. Totally recommend. All the barbers there seem great, but I’ve only had a cut with Serhii. Still, clearly a fantastic barber shop and definitely where I’ll be taking my business from now on!

With other salons recently putting up all the prices of short / mens cuts, fogtown isn’t necessarily more expensive anymore plus it’s a WAY better experience. The cut is always super well done and that hot foam neck shave feels so nice! I typically book with Mackenzie and she is amazing! She’s so friendly and personable and always does a fantastic job. 5/5. Highly recommend.
